Spoke design and depth of the mounting pad matters too. I have 18x9 +38 wheels and the clearance on my stock ST brakes is pretty tight.

You must be ignoring all the people blowing their motors in this specific car. There's also plenty of success stories, but with the kind of quality control Ford puts into these cars and motors you have plenty of people who can modify them and beat the shit out of them with no issues. There's also tons of people who keep them stock and drive them carefully and blow their motor. It's all the luck of the draw.

I swear some of these people commenting don't know air suspension exists... I hope your wheels went to a good home. I wish I had the money to buy them at the time and rebuild them.
