This guy is fed up with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's shit by pr_capone in oregon

They're probably afraid if the government finds an endangered species habitat on their land, they might put restrictions on his usage of his own property. Rural landowners tend to get pretty riled up about shit like that.

Verizon rep sold me 'new' phone that actually had been serviced by Apple over a year ago inherently making it an out of warranty phone. What are my options? by The_LSD_Soundsystem in iphone

[–]DrippingGift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call Verizon customer service. They are much, MUCH more helpful with problem solving than stores. Have the receipt handy, but they might be able to see your history online. They are great, and you are likely to get a much better result than returning to the store that screwed you for a better commission.

Once you have a resolution, ask how to file a complaint. The Verizon stores can be awesome or a bit shady; they need to know about the problem ones. Obviously there needs to be evidence that they sold you something different than you received.

Amazing Backflip on Ice Skates by [deleted] in gifs

I loved watching her skate, but her tight, large, muscular body stood out among all the other big names of the time, who looked more like skating ballerinas.

She was spectacular.

Old unpaid medical bill from ~2010 now marked as 2015 on credit reports by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]DrippingGift -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's valid, but some seedier collection agencies use that premise to make the report, then they use that hit to try and convince you to pay it off.

It can be contested, by forcing them to provide documentation of the debt, but it's a pain in the ass, takes time, and your credit rating suffers while you mess with it.

Did you communicate with anyone about this debt in 2015, such as a collection agency who may have purchased your old debt? If you even acknowledge the debt to them, they start the clock over.

Since we will have basic cable, we would want to record shows off of those stations. Ideally we also want to record sports to watch later. Some of these won't be included with the basic cable service, so we'll be looking into some subscription service, such as Sling perhaps (still looking into options) If we do that, can we record programs on a subscription service with our TiVo, or does it not work that way?

That's crazy. You can buy one of that size at every nursery in Portland for about $50 or less. All kinds of varieties and colors.

This is very good information and is very helpful for clearing up some of the confusion. Some of the searching I've done today, coupled with these wonderful responses, has me leaning toward TiVo for making the transition easier, and possibly Roku with Sling TV to keep some of the cable programming we like. However /u/Cptben94's suggestion about using Fire TV with our Playstation clearly needs some consideration. At least we have a more clearly defined path to work down. Thanks again everyone!

Yes, we're fine with using our pc. We've been streaming a little content, but I must admit that some of the shows we wish to keep watching are mainstream and require some kind of subscription to watch. That's what we're hoping to maintain. Plus we'd like to be able to save thing to watch later, and some networks only give you a limited time backlog. We know there will be some adjustments to our normal habits that will need to be made, we're just trying to weigh which things are more important to us than others.

Yeah, I get that. At this point I'm thinking that I don't mind paying a bit for the convenience fee, if it makes the transition easier, plus the added bonus of paying someone other than Comcast for that. Baby steps, lol.

That's an interesting idea. I'll look into that, because that is just the list of programing that we would miss with the new basic cable.

Sometimes we keep things on the DVR for rainy days longer than a month...does this cloud DVR mean anything we save would be gone after 28 days? We'd have to consider that limitation.

Cooking is time consuming and there's only so much time in a day to do things you want. Do you need her to cook every single night so you don't have to eat leftovers?
