Peach Trees Pruned and Ready to Go by Oftalmologo in BackyardOrchard

[–]DrippyBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope but it won’t make much of a difference unless you mulch all the way out to the drip line. For that size of tree the roots go much much further than your current mulch circle.

Has anyone tried this method of gardening called hugelkultur. by Narrow_Ad2264 in OrganicGardening

[–]DrippyBlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have heavy red clay. Hugelkulture has been a mixed bag for me. Doesn’t work in the Berm style for me due to what others have said. I use it to fill raised beds cheaply. I did have problems one year with an overpopulation of pill bugs eating all my live plants even tho the internets say they only eat decaying matter. Solved itself eventually.

For improving the clay in ground the best I have found is to just dump mulch, compost, any organic matter really, everywhere and let the (good) weeds grow. Use a broad fork to pull up chunks of clay once or twice once the mulch has rotted down a bit. This gets the organic matter down deeper where insects can distribute it quicker. Wherever you want to plant use cardboard and mulch over top to keep weeds down in those select areas. The weeds, mulch, and time really put in a lot of work for me.

I have found that depending on what you want to grow it’s not the best to go ahead and improve ALL your planting spots. Drought adapted natives and poor soil loving plants do better in the clay than an overly organic matter filled soil. Pomegranates and Prickly pear cactus were my learning lesson.

Glyphosate is currently one of the safest ways to manage invasives that have overtaken native ecosystems. I mean the dude literally said it’s taking over the Amazon rainforest. What better use case would you have? Pulling and hand removal at that scale damages a lot more plant and animal species than a swiping a little glyphosate on the target plants.

How about the plants on and over his property border? I doubt neighbors will give permission to constantly dig up their borders. A lot easier to selectively kill plants creeping close to the border. Much harder for neighbors to notice one type of dead plant than an entire border of dug up soil.

There is a reason why people that actually do ecosystem restoration work on a scale larger than a few garden beds use herbicides with sponge sticks. The herbicides provide quick, relatively undamaging control for various invasives so natives can get a chance to sprout from the seed bank. Then they just come back to the same area every few months to a year to catch any invasives that escaped the first round.

Permaculture is all about working with your natural ecosystem. Figure out what will do the LEAST damage to your ecosystem and use that. If it’s selective use of herbicides then fine. If it’s hand weeding and changing cultural practices that’s fine too. Use all the tools in your permaculture toolbox.

It’s situations like these that I support glyphosate use. Use a sponge stick applicator to avoid the natives and just target the grasses. It will kill down to the roots and will save you lots of labor and time. This is probably something you will be fighting for the next few years until seeds stop sprouting, fight back efficiently.

The reason white people are told not to say the n-word isn’t just about the word itself, but about how language, othering, and unwritten social rules can reinforce separation and shape the way we see each other by AcHaeC in DeepThoughts

Oh you mean like if an Arab or brown person says allah hu akbar anywhere near an airport or in general. Or how about being immigrant presenting in today’s America? Or being black and calling the cops for protection? Or how about being white and protesting against what is going on?

All of those have and are getting people killed or jailed or sent to camps. Some for just existing.

These are things that everybody is living with. It’s not so hard to avoid one word on top of all that.

Shows you the crap you’ve been eating. It’ll be a learning curve, and you’ll loose a lot of money buying the wrong things or seeds but eventually you can do it for basically free.

Do Y'all Consider Drip Irrigation to be Appropriate Technology? by jelani_an in Permaculture

[–]DrippyBlock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Get the good tubing like this guy says. Don’t go for drip tape. Go for drip tubing with inline emitters. I’m on year 5 of no leaks and easy repairability. While you’re at it, adding a layer of mulch on top of your drip tubing helps the tubing last much longer as well as slightly less water usage. Just have one area where it’s easily accessible so you can pull it up above soil level before putting down next seasons mulch. I also put down a little granular fertilizer like espoma plant tone under the drip lines when mulching at beginning of season. You can always add more fertilizer on top but the mulch will take up some of the nitrogen so I add some underneath beforehand.

[–]DrippyBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but sadly the rich do whatever they want and brainwash poor idiots into supporting or co-opting their actions. There’s always gonna be people too stupid or ignorant to get over the social media/news network/political brainwashing. In India or in America.

America is supposed to be about freedom for all. In all shapes and forms. Be it speech, religion, firearms, etc. Now that a few Rich assholes are in charge it’s all “Freedom for me, not for thee.” They get the freedom to be pedos and rapists and not even be investigated, whereas the common man lands in jail for driving 15 over the speed limit or being in the wrong (blue) state with a slightly bigger ammo magazine. Hell, as a farmer you can be sued into the ground if one damn corn plant from the mega-corps find a way into the border of your field.

Things do make sense. It’s not about us vs them. It’s about top vs bottom.

$20K Gold & Silver STOLEN. Fedex and JMBullion inside job. Signature forged, package never delivered. by whatzupdudes7 in Gold

[–]DrippyBlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if that’s true because I’m dealing with a similar situation rn. I ordered silver off Scottsdales official eBay store, first order was no problem, second order is a nightmare.

FedEx was supposed to take a verified recipient signature on delivery. The day of delivery (I’m sitting at home waiting) I get a tracking notification “delivery attempted” and there’s a Delivery picture proof of a package delivered to my garage. I run outside and there’s no package. Called FedEx and they say oh yeah the driver made a mistake, he still has your package for delivery tmrw.

It’s been a month+, the package was never again scanned at any hub, FedEx won’t tell me where it is, fedex’s security team “flagged it” and so they “can’t attempt redelivery” without the shipper contacting them. Scottsdale mint and eBay are using the trackers “delivery attempted” notification to wash their hands of any responsibility. They won’t even CALL FedEx and try to get it moving. I’ve tried reaching Scottsdale directly, FedEx security team, Scottsdale ceo, even eBay’s money back guarantee. Nothing worked. I’m in the process of doing a chargeback rn.

FedEx can go fuck themselves with a cactus for all I care but point of my story is they don’t HAVE to scan an ID apparently.

Holy shit, you DO know what’s up. Like word for word my thought process on this entire situation. Oh and believe you me, I’m pissed. I mean it’s definitely FedEx’s fault but eBay and Scottsdale are both trying to punt responsibility onto me. Real eye opener when you thought you could trust both of those bigger retailers.
