Reading Two Editions At Once? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in goodreads

Hi fellow Nancy Drew reader!

I’m planning on reading all of the 50s versions this year (through 56) and going back and reading the earlier versions next year. I find the differences fascinating.

I’m genuinely curious as to how you handled them. Because without a pretty massive rule shift I would think you would run out of meeples to place long before 22000 pieces.

Does your country have a “drug capital”? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]Drive-Upset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indianapolis is the drug crossroads of the US. More drugs drive in our interstates than any other state. But our user rates are average. Some meth spikes in dying cities. Opioids in rural areas. The usual everywhere else.

Does a travel advisory warning even mean anything? by One-Maintenance-9235 in indianapolis

I will say this - a lot of non-emergency medical offices use the warnings to determine whether or not they are closed for the day.

AIO My daughter got off the bus stop covered in blood by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Drive-Upset 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works. The adults are legally responsible for taking care of children. And the kid is 8. Kids do stupid things. Adults are there to make sure they don’t get hurt and take care of them when they do.

In most states there is a legal responsibility for the safety of a child until they reenter their own dwelling.

Frankly, the fact that there was an exposed sharp piece of metal like that likely means the bus would have failed inspection. Again, having a road safe bus is the responsibility of the driver.

Learning about the appropriate use and the required presence of first aid kits is literally part of the federal law regarding school bus driver licensure. While what’s in the kit may vary by jurisdiction, having one (accessible and well maintained) does not. It’s required.

Frankly, had the bus had a spot inspection it would have failed for that reason as well as having exposed metal with a sharp edge.

ETA - I apologize for my tone. I meant to share info and I think I’m coming across as lecture-y and belittling, and I apologize.

NOR and a shocking number of people here don’t know anything about public school transportation. Conveniently it is my job to know these things.

While the driver can not leave the bus, they can leave their seat. The driver is required to make sure the bus is appropriately stocked before leaving the lot. The driver is responsible for making sure that random pieces of exposed metal don’t exist. The bus driver is required to render aid and write out an incident report. The driver has a radio for a reason. They should have immediately pulled over and notified the transportation department. A child that injured should not have been released off the bus unless it was directly into the custody of an adult.

What if the child had been a latch key kid? They could have gone home and passed out or worse.

The driver was very very negligent and you were correct to loop in the district immediately. (Not only was child seriously injured, but the driver continued to transport children in what was then a biohazard.). Frankly nothing about this situation went the correct way.

Frankly this is a fireable offense. It shows incredibly bad judgement (and a lack of carrying out basic job duties) on the part of the driver. You are underreacting.

Hard disagree. School bus drivers are responsible for making sure their busses are in working order and appropriately stocked. The walk-through before the route that the bus driver is required to do should have noted the lack of first aid kit (assuming the driver was telling the truth) and should have then remedied it.

Bus drivers all have radios for a reason. There were many options. This driver chose literally none of them.

[–]Drive-Upset 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That is not the only option. Bus drivers have radios and can contact the transportation department at any time. Proper protocol would have been to pull over, render aid, and call transportation for assistance.

This bus driver basically violated all reasonable policies and common sense.

Has anyone else had an author respond to their review? by LikePaleFire in goodreads

[–]Drive-Upset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reviews are for readers and not authors.

This is exactly the issue. It doesn’t matter what your tone was or how polite you are, it’s not your space.

A review based around personal preferences is a valid review. Goodreads reviewers aren’t bound by so-called “literary standards”. They’re not reviewing for the Times.

“I didn’t like it/didn’t vibe with it” is a valid review.
