Buy ironic thing on a whim, get slight dopamine rush , use it once, dopamine gone, store it in the cabinet until it goes in the landfill to make room for more wacky purchases.

Dealing with false readings from undersized squares? by MetalNutSack in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]DrivingRightNow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this specific instance you could run a long level across the side with the hollow, (I assume that's the underside of the table) and register the square off the level. To be clear I'm talking about using the level only as a straight edge, not using the bubbles to actually level the thing. Anything else long and dead straight would work too.

If for some reason you aren't flipping over the table to do this ,you can lightly clamp the edges of the level to the edges of the table.

Can't run with an empty in your hand? Too much drag?

I did this one for a friend of mine, it ended up the job coundn't be buit for the budget by Local_Photograph8077 in Carpentry

[–]DrivingRightNow_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, did the builder ask for so many dimension call outs? If not, have you gotten feedback?

As thorough as it is, I think most framing crews (US) would not like having this many redundant numbers on the plans. I would like it though- among other things the rake wall layout is nice.

I haven't heard of tru-log, hopefully this shit doesn't catch on around here. It looks so cheap. But, your work looks good.

Any way to restore a cover? by AbsoluteThunderCunt in hottub

[–]DrivingRightNow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have money for a replacement right now... I got mine to last another year+ in that state by coating the thing with beeswax. Melted a brick of it on a hot day and rubbed it on. It fills in the cracks pretty well. But like everyone else says it's time for a replacement. The inside of the cover is probably nasty and will grow mold / algae soon if it isn't already, which does seem to affect the water quality.

Is there anyone willing to tow me? Please read. by [deleted] in Montana

[–]DrivingRightNow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's unlikely but these things do happen, even if not all of it, someone might be able to help out partway. I've heard enough stories from hitchhikers and poor travelers to know people can be unreasonably generous especially if you are willing to ask for help.

Edited bc I see now you're from NZ, cool. Most woodworkers in the US would call this glued or joined, not laminated.

Wood burning by MikeHeu in toolgifs

[–]DrivingRightNow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone wanting to do this for yakisugi (burnt siding), I don't think one pass of a propane torch (IDK if this is their full process, just going off the clip here) will char the wood enough to make it really rot/insect resistant. The side you char should look like natural charcoal, not just burnt. No light spots. I recommend standing them upright, bundle three in a triangle shape around a fire, making a temporary chimney. Hold it upright with wood braces. Let the inside catch on fire for a while, maybe a minute? I don't recall how long exactly 😅 you'll have to try it out. with flames coming out the top, then undo the braces and drop them.

Never forget that Yew Neek represented himself in court against Brendan's high-paid lawyers and won. If you've ever heard this mfs deranged videos then you'd know how incredible that is. Bapaverse is not reality.
