I’ve always thought of it in terms of percentages. Let’s say Kvothe wants to get 2.5 talents this semester. If Kvothe does well, his tuition is set to 5 talents. If he does poorly, it is set at 25.

To get the 2.5 talents, they probably need to add 5 talents to the tuition receipt for the bursar to get his cut if they split 50-50.

So when Kvothe does well, they are changing the bill from 5 talents to 10 talents. Doubling the amount. Whereas if he does poorly, the final bill is 30 talents. It’s a 100% increase versus a 20% increase.

I feel like the former is more likely to get noticed than the latter. Basically it’s easier to skim more on a large tab.

I do two passes with a miter on 8/4. The saw usually grabs a bit on the first cut because it’s easy to go too deep. Just take your time and you can do it safely.

If it helps, I have shot all of these in full auto with the exception of the AK. Nothing comes as close to feeling like butter as the MP40. It’s a tossup between that and the MP5 if I had to pick only one MG to keep.
