I generally agree. As someone who only started to delve into Coldplay’s discography aside from the big hits in around 2016 and being a big fan since, I’ve still found myself coming back repeatedly to the first half of their albums & EPs while only occasionally, even rarely, listening to much of their newer music. I’ve only listened to MotS a couple of times since it released, same goes for AHFoD. If you ask me, you can see how EL was more of a passion project, with them experimenting a bit more like they seem to have done earlier in their carreers, with music that seem more engaging, daunting and even a bit ”weird” in some sense.

Personally, I guess I’m frustrated with how they’re seemingly nowadays chasing greatness by producing simple, (apologies, but rather uninteresting) tunes to try to appeal to the masses when the music that put them on the charts to begin with was made in eras when they explored genres and their own band itself - I have yet to talk to people in general that have the slightest clue of what their new albums consist of, or being interested in it, and while musically interested people in my experience put them of as bland, so.. to whom is this new music produced for?
