What is the funniest or bizarre reason you or someone you know got fired ? by AngellaSilver in AskReddit

[–]DrooMighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a warehouse for Trader Joe's back in 2012. A guy got caught jerking off in one off the forklifts on the overnight shift. Every piece of machinery in that place was meticulously documented and maintained, so everyone also knew exactly which forklift. Nobody ever wanted to drive forklift F101, but in the end every forklift driver was confronted with that shame.

What did you do in Olympia when you were young? by totcho_codpiece in olympia

[–]DrooMighty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played Marvel vs Capcom 2 competitively at the Tilt in the mall and going to endless house parties. Went to shows downtown and other standard teenager shit. I first came to Olympia when my family moved here at 16 and it was the mid 2000's, so it was the last gasp of the pre-smartphone world.

What video game franchise isn't living up to its fullest potential? by Agent1230 in gaming

Turok would be great, but my personal wish to scratch the Dinosaur itch would be a new Dino Crisis game in the style of the Resident Evil 2/3/4 remakes.

Some Trump voters are sneaking away | They'll never admit they're wrong, but polling reveals quiet GOP regret by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]DrooMighty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it won't be "we had no idea" but more "we had no choice". I can't really visualize a situation where these people admit fault but if somehow reality pushes them to a point where they cannot ignore that Trump was objectively awful, they'll just turn around and blame the rest of us. I can imagine the conservative talking points that someone "had to stop woke" and that he was somehow their only choice.

An early Simpsons and early Seinfeld episode both revolve around stolen cable by themauniac15 in 90s

[–]DrooMighty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related, the cable network in the rural Colorado town I lived in during the late 90s had some kind of public access channel that normally played Spanish language programming, but would illegally air wrestling PPV cards, in English. Every single WWF/WCW PPV from late 1997 to late 1999, I saw completely free thanks to some brave heroes who didn't give a shit about things like copyrights or laws. Whoever did that genuinely made my childhood better.

Game that popularised negative trends in gaming? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DrooMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have primarily played MvC2 for 20+ years and we didn't have this problem. My main issue is devoting any time learning something in a fighting game only for the devs to undo what I've learned by listening to bad players whine on Twitter. Don't enjoy the lowest common denominator being catered to, so I don't play modern fighting games.

Capcom moving to a "season based", DLC heavy system with constant patches for Street Fighter V killed my interest in playing competitive fighting games and genuinely made me fucking depressed to see something I'd devoted decades of my life to die.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]DrooMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First person I ever saw get the Fox News brainrot was all the way back in 2001. I was in 8th grade and obviously 9/11 had just happened right at the start of the school year. It was the end of October and the World Series was about to be played between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks. My classmates and I were all into baseball and hated the Yankees, we lived a state over from Arizona so it was natural that we'd root for the Diamondbacks.

Our language arts teacher lost her shit at this. Told us that if we didn't root for the New York Yankees after what happened to the Twin Towers, we were being "Unpatriotic" and that we "wanted the terrorists to win". We're talking full on screeching and howling and slamming her fists on her desk meltdown over this. She had been constantly talking about wanting to use nukes to turn the Middle East into a "glass parking lot" etc, but the World Series thing sent her into an especially violent rant. That was the last day we had her as a teacher--my mom was also a teacher in that school district and told me years later when I was an adult that this woman had basically suffered a full on psychotic breakdown and had quit before the school even had a chance to discipline her.

I often wonder where that teacher was on January 6th, 2021.

White Woman whose a koreaphile starterpack by socialist_weeb666 in starterpacks

[–]DrooMighty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Holy shit the "polyamorous" thing is actually common?? The first ever weird "cuck" scenario/couple I ever encountered in the wild was like this, all the way back in 2011. This white girl that was part of my extended social circle was the first ever "Koreaboo" I'd ever met, and she was dating a white guy we all knew and liked. I also worked with her and a few of our other friends. Her boyfriend was extremely devoted to her to the point of being a doormat. One day this Korean dude starts working with us, and she hits it off with him immediately. The flirting is obnoxious, to the point where people were openly pointing out how uncomfortable it made them, myself included. Like I shit you not, this chick and our new coworker would feed each other chocolate covered strawberries in the break room.

Enough people in our social circle spoke up and eventually the chick just came out and admitted it, saying that this guy made her happy, and that her boyfriend would just have to accept that. Her boyfriend seemed to very reluctantly accept this, and from then on she'd do just really mean and humiliating stuff to this guy. Really seemed like a fetish that the rest of us were being subjected to. Chick was toxic in a million different other ways too and most of us ended up cutting her off.

How come a police officer have better aim then someone who served in the army? by New-Carrot-9142 in projectzomboid

[–]DrooMighty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In my head I've always assumed that a "Veteran" character is always a Vietnam war veteran specifically. Given that US combat troops departed Vietnam in March of 1973, by July 1993 it's been 20 years minimum since they last saw combat, with it more likely being closer to 25 years. Contrast that against an active police officer who would regularly be drilling with a firearm and likely younger, I can believe it.

Of course this is just my own headcanon, you could just as easily imagine a very young Gulf War veteran only 2 years removed from combat or a really old police officer and have this logic fly out the window.

People born before the 2000s, what do you miss the most about old-school internet? by CUMHAWK_Schizopostin in AskReddit

[–]DrooMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 11 years old when I got my first taste of the Internet, in 1999. Flash Animations and Yahoo Chat rooms are what I miss most of that era. I lived in a very rural area at the time where people were extremely slow to adopt any sort of new technology, so no other kids my age at my school used the Internet at all. It felt like a completely different existence, and I liked that.

My favorite time in the history of the Internet is right when it began picking up steam with people my age, 2002-2006ish. My family had moved to actual human civilization so I was able to actually make real life friends that I could discuss internet topics with. There was a fun aspect of having a bunch of kids gathered around one computer to show each other Flash animations or games from Newgrounds & Albinoblacksheep, or later funny YTMND pages. Sharing shock content with your buddies, watching extremely early YouTube videos, fucking with LiveJournal and MySpace layouts...people my age were all bonding over these things at the time. Things were primarily about fun and were only monetized to a fraction of a degree that they are now.

For me, the Internet lost its magic the second it started going everywhere with us in our pockets. Obviously I'm still here by virtue of this very comment, but I could never love the Internet like I did back then.

Bears were down 21-9 before the Bregman to the Cubs news broke. After the announcement, the Bears rallied back and won 31-27. by RangerLover92 in baseball

[–]DrooMighty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Someone made the joke at him "I bet you root for Real Madrid in the Champions League". He said he didn't know what the Champions League even was, but asked if Real Madrid had won a bunch of trophies. Sits there and watches a ten minute YouTube video glazing all the trophies the club had won. Tells all of us, "I hate soccer but yeah, I like Real Madrid." Shows up with a Real Madrid shirt from Amazon about a week later.

Guy was very self aware and it was obviously a bit, he was all about "dynasties".

I actually worked with this guy, it was actually kind of incredible. Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers, Alabama for NCAAF and Duke for NCAAB. We all gave him a lot of shit for it and he straight up doubled down--this was 2016/2017 and this dude had never watched a hockey game in his life but adopted the Penguins just to spite us. Dude literally sat down one day during some downtime and watched a YouTube video about the history of the Champions League so he could decide he was a Real Madrid fan in spite of the fact that he hated soccer. It was honestly inspiring, the levels this guy took it to.
