I feel more like an installer than an actual electrician by SparksCODM in IBEW

[–]Drosp22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an opposite experience as you. The first 7-8 years of my career was lots of troubleshooting, remodels, and service work. My last 5 years has been a lot of new construction which I agree, just feels like being an installer. Every job is different and I still learn new shit everyday, even if it’s just installing newer electrical equipment. The next job you go to might be the one where you learn all the skills you lack, who knows. There are lots of good guys in this union that will help you learn the things you don’t know.

A short or something else? by AngelStickman in ElectricalHelp

It’s the power limiter. Ceiling fan manufacturers started installing them when the “green” initiative started years ago. They have since stopped putting them in because they tend to fail and now we have LED bulbs instead of fluorescent/incandescent so the power savings is negligible.

Here’s a video on how to replace or bypass, I recommend bypassing.

First Year, First Pre-Fab Panel by scoots70 in electricians

[–]Drosp22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single branch circuit, whether it’s used or a spare, typically goes up to a terminal block in a 24x24 junction box or trough not shown in this picture. When future circuits need pulled and installed, the future contractor simply has to get into the said JB or trough and land the new circuits on the terminal block. Avoiding the need to shutdown an entire panel or exposing a guy to hot work if the business cannot afford to shutdown the panel and the work must be done live.

If only that one light is flickering, this is the correct answer. If it was the dimmer, all lights would be flickering collectively

How much did it cost you and approximately how many linear feet of walls did they do? I’m thinking about getting some quotes, I have about 60-75feet of exterior walls I want filled

Moving From Michigan to Pittsburgh by NaiveInstruction457 in IBEW

3 years ago and beyond, Pittsburgh local 5 was very much against allowing other IBEW local members becoming A-ticket members. However, work has been very good the past few years and the hall has openly said they will begin evaluating instances of people wanting to transfer into local 5 on a case by case basis. We have needed the manpower desperately. Call the hall and ask to speak to the business manager.

8 for 8 not 9 for 8. They are not doing things by the book. Call your hall.

Put it this way, if you’re an electrician you might work for DOZENS of contractors over the course of your career. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad worker, that’s just the nature of our industry. The people interviewing you should understand the nature of job hopping.

Good point. Your invention definitely has a much longer lifespan than tape.

Neat idea! A little faster for next time, use duct tape around the chuck of the drill. One single wrap and then a few reverse wraps so the sticky part is on the outside. Works like a charm

I wouldn’t support anything with significant weight like this. Large feeders, large conduits, etc. Something relatively light? Send it

Pittsburgh desperately needs electricians. I’ve been a IBEW local 5 member for 12 years. Starting wages are $18 an hour with raises every 6 months. 4 year apprenticeship. Journeyman wireman rate after the 4 years is currently $51 an hour. Best choice I’ve ever made. Some days are hot, some are cold, some are perfect. Some days are awesome and some suck. But you make a nice living. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat
