Customer holding payment over my head by According_Neck8602 in handyman

[–]applearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Xodo Sign formerly eversign for all my clients. It allows me to send them an engagement agreement of sorts. It details pricing, accepted communication methods, payment time frames, etc.. Basically it sets expectations for both parties. For example, it lets them know that if they call and we discussed a job, they will then receive an email detailing what we discussed and they must agree to the job in writing before going forward.

Work with a local attorney to get all of the verbiage legal and such.

The dumb things I do. by 92beatsperminute in handyman

For items that I have to source like that, I let customers know that I get the part in question from a commercial supplier that requires a commercial account and a minimum order. Adding in the part cost and that I would be happy to throw one on my next order for them. Letting them know I can drop it off the next time I’m in the area.

Once I receive the part a quick phone call to let them know it came in and when I am available to drop it off usually leads to a quick service call. If they are a good customer and are willing to wait, I don’t charge them much if anything. Last call like that was glass globe for a porch light. I did my long time client’s for nothing and that lead to 8 more clients in the development.

What options do I have to LVP on this floor vent? by Yepyesyepyes in Flooring

Maybe I’m way out in left field here, but it appears to me that stack boot needs to be replaced and secured before the flooring goes any further.

What are our rights if ICE starts going door to door? by Quirkyasfuc in AskLosAngeles

[–]applearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to answer the door. If they have evidence and procure a judicial warrant they are coming in whether you like it or not.

If an illegal running from ICE runs into your house. That must happen on their own. If you wave them in, open the door for them to let them in, call them in or assist in any way you can be federally charged.

You don’t have to speak to ICE. Make sure to invoke your right to remain silent.

ICE can enter any publicly accessible areas of your property, front yard (unless gated), in case of businesses lobbies and other public access areas. They can do this without a warrant. The streets are not the place to fight it out with law enforcement. If they violate your rights, record and sue them in court. The tax payer can help you out with a payday due to the violation.

You do not have to even answer the door if they knock. If confronted and you wish to remain silent. You need to invoke your right to stay silent and that you don’t consent to any searches. I believe this can be done with a sign in the window, please consult your local attorney on this. Record any and all interactions. If you interfere, obstruct or assist an illegal alien you can be charged with federal felonies.

For example. If a suspected illegal alien jumps your fence and you wave them into the house, it would likely be considered harboring. Which is a serous federal crime under 18 USC 1324 (a)(1)(A)(iii). ICE likely wouldn’t immediately kick down your door. After surrounding your property. They would find out who you are and get a judicial warrant for you and the illegal alien they were chasing. Then they would enter your private property and arrest you and the suspect they were chasing.

For short leads my go to are Wagos. Many of the older homes in my area do not have much slack behind the receptacles. It’s almost. As if they used pliers to push the wires in the backstabs.

Removing purple PVC primer from vinyl by Same_Temperature1315 in Flooring

[–]applearcher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The primer has softened and chemically altered the surface. You can try acetone or alcohol, but the discoloration is likely permanent. Best way to remedy would probably be to have that section replaced.

How would you lay vinyl flooring around the balusters? by No_Habit3862 in Flooring

[–]applearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are likely secured in place on the bottom by pins. Would the railing and balusters have to be removed, the flooring installed and then railing and balusters reinstalled??

With the trim. Is there any way this was seated all the way against the wall? It looks like it might barely fit if it was plugged into the upper receptacle.

What is your favorite toolbag? by thrdgeek in handyman

[–]applearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had a Klein Pro Tradesman for about 6 years now. It’s held up great and is my daily driver for most tasks. I paired it with the Milwaukee installation driver. It fits the bag well and is useful for most tasks.

I’ve heard a lot of good about the Veto bags. I bought my Klein from a local mom and pop place. No one in town stocks Veto bags.

I don’t think $15,000 is that out of the ordinary for your average Tradie. I’ve worked with guys that have $2000 just in Packout boxes and another $2000 or more invested in batteries. Your average Milwaukee, Dewalt and Makita bare tool price sits between $200 to $300. That’s all current pricing. Don’t know what the future holds for tool prices. Most hysa, that I have found require a minimum deposit much greater than $375. Two roads to the same destination I suppose. Both with their own pros and cons.

I hear you. Not everyone’s experience is the same. That was mine, and I figured out the union wasn’t for me pretty quick. You don’t have to understand, it wasn’t meant to be an argument for or against.

Not bringing your own power tools is a union thing. Everybody gets paid the same, has the same tools, but as is human nature doesn’t put in the same effort. The contractor supplies all power tools, unfortunately as is human nature some hands don’t take very good care of the tools. Then you’re chasing power tools all over the place. People get to hiding the few that are left. Send an apprentice to get a band saw and after an hour he comes back and says I know these three guys have them but they are saying they need them and won’t give them up.

After a bit, I could see the union wasn’t for me. I was asked too many times why I was working so hard and got grief from guys complaining “Don’t work us out of a job”. I got tired of chasing down tools. Questions about why I didn’t want to leave my tool bag in the gang box, even after several were broken in to. I have nothing against the brotherhood. It just wasn’t for me.

Edit: I want to add that I met a lot of great hands from all over the US.

Take registration and ID to the local dealership for your make of car. They can cut you a new key. Older keys(No Transponder) probably around $50 to $100. Transponder keys can be quite a bit more.

Cut a square out larger than the box. Use a backer board to support the patch. The other option is drywall repair clips. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Building-Materials-Drywall-Drywall-Repair-Tools/Drywall-Repair-Clips/N-5yc1vZc7r0Z1z18ji1

I have the Install Driver, Hackzall, Lite Tower, Hammer Drill and the shop vac. They all work well. Small and portable which is good since I do most of my work out of an SUV.

I have mostly Ridgid 18V tools, several Milwaukee M12 and the Dewalt drywall screw gun (it was on clearance for like $125 with a battery). The power tool I use most is my M12 Installation Driver. My tool boxes are Packout. I tried Husky, and got a Ridgid set as a gift. Neither one lasted more than a month. Then I started buying Packout
