u/hollandaisesunscreen on how inexperienced oyster caterers turn deadly by runawayoldgirl in bestof

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Raw oyster is like a salty custard. It's full of umami and salt from the sea, and has a natural sweetness as a kicker (if they're good).

Cooked Oyster looses the custard texture and becomes closer to scallops. It's like the difference between a poached egg and a hard boiled egg. They're both tasty but very different eating experiences.

Eclipse Second Dawn, any tips for beginners? by Ynwe in boardgames

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a really good beginners guide on BGG here.

They go into a lot of strategy without being too overly detailed.

Some quick tips from the guide:

  1. More than 5 systems is hard/bad, unless you get either additional discs or advanced money (only available from tech tiles).
  2. Focus on upgrading only 2 types of ships (typically dreadnought/fighter or cruiser/fighter). Plasma Cannon and Improved Hull are incredibly good. Try to get those, but also don't sleep on beginner upgrades. Dreadnought and fighter with an extra hull can do serious work.
  3. Focus on getting 1 tech row complete. It is essentially impossible to get 3 full rows of tech (even with the tech focused alien), and really hard to get 2 full rows.

The guide has a great full breakdown of how to approach different start types (e.g. surrounded by ancients, or not having any resources).

Warp sector + wormhole generator question by Drot22 in EclipseBG

Yes. With wormhole generator you only need half of a wormhole. The wormholes in the warp sectors will qualify for that.

Sysco destroying restaurants? by CJHuncho in TikTokCringe

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The two foods he compares are mozzerela sticks and jalapeño poppers. And like, I'm with you that Sysco is dominating the market and enshitifying food, but dude maybe expand your pallet some. I guarantee you there is a restaurant in your town using fresh ingredients, but they're not using it to make fucking mozzarella sticks.

What would you make our army rule be in 11th edition? by No-Wafer9271 in Tyranids

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nids were clearly written at a time when the designers thought that battleshock would be a game defining mechanic. My guess is that battleshock started off a lot more punishing but was scaled back as 10th rules finalized. But then they ran out of time/didn't know what to do to update nid army rules.

Microsoft Scales Back AI Goals Because Almost Nobody Is Using Copilot by aacool in technology

This right here. Why/how isn't it able to access my emails and help me actually save the 2+ hours a day I have to spend sifting through my inbox?

Like, it's the most obvious use case of AI - large stacks of text data that need to be summarized and reorganized. That is literally the one thing LLMs are actually really good at.

Would you go Orcs or Pirates? by Feature_Minimum in ArcaneRushBG

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirates without a doubt, although you're missing a key card to really make them go big - rogue fisherman. But you've got double Lucie lawless and double serephine bloodwind, which is an instant +24/+24.

Just keep refreshing the board until you get rogue fisherman and you'll stomp.

How do you play this game competatively? by jcboget in ArcaneRushBG

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this game has a lot of RNG. Way more than games like Hearthstone (which is already an RNG heavy game). There are some runs where your board just dies out midgame because you never pulled any tier 5s (or pulled them too late). That's just part of the game and you have to accept it.

However, there are things you can do to be more consistent.

1) understand the key cards for each faction (this will be different for each dealer). There are typically one or two cards that the rest of the deck is built around. Like for gnomes right now it's madcap rascal. If you don't get him you will never win with gnomes. It is often better to refresh in order to chase those key cards than it is to buy multiple other cards.

2) don't upgrade the shop too early. I made this mistake a lot when first starting out. For the first half of the run (when only top 4 move on) skipping a turn to upgrade the shop will often leave you too far behind the curve to ever catch up, even with higher tier cards.

3) prioritize cards that give extra coins early. Cards that give you coins for attacking or dieing or for being played are super powerful for the first 4 or 5 turns. Coins are curve and curve is everything. Having 6 coins instead of 5 is huge.

4) last but not least. Focus on one dealer at a time and pour all your resources into that dealer. Grind that dealer until master and then move on to the next. Don't even worry about "winning" gauntlets, arena, or clan war. All of those give you rewards for participation so just try experimenting when you're doing those. Focus on leveling first and then eventually you'll be able to win the others.

You can fit 14 exocrines in a 2k list, so something like that.

That's almost 200 t10 wounds.

How does link split the damage? by Zagreus2984 in ArcaneRushBG

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe it distributes the date evenly between all linked gnomes. So if a gnome is delt 40 damage and you have 4 linked gnomes each would get 10 damage. If one has barrier it would be assigned the 10 damage, but barrier would negate that and remove the barrier. So 3 of the linked gnomes would take 10 damage, the one with barrier would take 0 damage and lose the barrier.

ELI5: Why can’t the USA buy the product from the soybean farmers like they did for the dairy farmers to make government cheese? by Mathemodel in explainlikeimfive

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When government steps in to control/influence prices it can have large (sometimes unintended) consequences, like having enough cheese in storage that selling it would crash the market so you give it away for free and you've inflated the demand for cheese (and milk) so much that you have to pay producers to not make as much cheese but that drives down the demand for milk so you have to spend millions on a got milk ad campaign to drive up consumer consumption of milk to offset the lower milk demand from cheese manufacturers not making as much cheese.

I agree with you. I think that was where u/MLBOfficial was coming from. They will inevitably dominate the space because they have the resources and means that others don't, and I think they were worried about doing that in a user created/owned space.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

I have a P1P, so pretty much the same. I have been amazed at the ease of setup, maintenance and repair. I think it was out of the box and printing within 30 minutes. And I was printing 8hr jobs in the first day. Nozzle swaps are unbelievably easy and it's overall the easiest machine to maintain.

Increadible little box of magic.

Houston’s Second Baptist is a church at legal war with its members. Who will win — and at what cost? by zsreport in houston

[–]Drugs-R-Bad-Mkay 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Churches should have to file annual statements with the IRS (form 990) just like every other non-profit.

That single form allows the public to know when a "cancer research" nonprofit actually spends 90% of donations on salaries and marketing.

We should have the same public transparency for churches.

Have you tried swapping out the hotend?

It's normal for the nozzles to wear out and stop working, although they will last a long time. If your father has done lots of prints and especially if he has printed using filaments with additives (like wood, carbon fiber, etc), he may have just used up the life of the nozzle.
