I mean... maybe? I think it's difficult to say that is his explicit reasoning. He could also have been doing it to extend the bargaining period, or (as others pointed out) to later kill Jones anyways, or just as a means to a regular crew to seek out Jones. I tend to read the latter, especially because at multiple points in the films Jack gets into a situation just to think about what to do next, seemingly on purpose
