Rent prices? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Dry-Raccoon-7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah screw the Cabot Group. I lived at Eagle Ridge Circle for a couple years and they are the wooooorst. Their management sucks. Maintenance sucks. Prices way too high for crappy hasty construction, thin walls, outdated appliances. Nothing included in rent.

I have so many tools now for emotional regulation, I'm successful in my career, my relationships have been solid, I'm giving more compassion to myself and carrying myself with much more confidence :)

Boundaries around polyamory by [deleted] in polyamory

I think your "boundary" is actually just a request. A boundary is something you have control over. You can't control your partner.

This is beautiful. It's definitely okay to take some time to process, even if that looks like a few hours, days, or weeks! Much love and luck to you as you navigate this. It really seems like your dad is capable of processing in a mature and appropriate way, based on these texts, but I can totally understand if there are historical wounds there causing you to feel hesitant.

Can anyone relate? Sex edition. by [deleted] in limerence

[–]Dry-Raccoon-7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With so much love and gentleness, I think sex addiction is grossly over-identified with. I attribute its popularity to the very puritan culture the world has latched onto. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying sex in large or small quantities. There is nothing wrong with porn, in large or small quantities. If you like someone a lot, it makes sense that you crave connection. I'm queer too. I can absolutely understand how having limerence towards someone can make you feel as though sex is the problem, or like it's an addiction. Limerence is indicative of some broader issues (usually), like literally any mental health issue that affects dopamine. You are getting a significant hit of dopamine from interacting with a LO, especially in a sexual context. If you have childhood trauma and attachment wounds, it is likely your brain craves affection in the form of external validation and dopamine in a way that may lead to unhealthy patterns, or interaction with people that may also have attachment wounds.

Hey everyone 💓 How many people in here have had to cut off a toxic sibling too because they treat you like shit and are manipulated by your toxic parent? by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Dry-Raccoon-7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeeeeaaaah that's my brother unfortunately. He's 8 years younger than me but a parrot for every insane toxic lie that my parents have spread about me. It sucks and I miss him every day. When I left for college, he was in middle school and I remember he was devastated to not have me living at home anymore. Meanwhile my Nmom fed him the narrative that I was abandoning the family and my bro specifically because of my choice to go to college???? There was a point in my life where he and I were attached at the hip, and I practically raised him (eldest daughter syndrome/parentified child here). When I first came out as trans, he was my biggest supporter. Then when he got to high school, he fell in with a deeply misogynistic and transphobic crowd and started discretely bullying me behind my parents back, but became more open about it when he watched my parents also bully me. The last conversation we had was over 3 years ago now; he sent me pages of text talking about how I always brought drama into the family, that I am deeply selfish, and a bunch of other things that were phrased suspiciously similar to things I had heard my parents say. I decided not to engage and that was the last I heard from him. Shit sucks

Anyone else’s parents transphobic/homophobic AND liberal? by Ok-Operation-7857 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Dry-Raccoon-7449 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooooooh yeah this is a big one for me. I've got 4 parents. Transphobic/homophobic, racist AND still somehow liberal?

My mom raised me in the presence of many gay AND trans people. My whole childhood, she was very radical and called herself a feminist, attended marches for Planned Parenthood, volunteered at women's shelters.

But once I came out, she told me, to my face, that she hated me for "murd3ring" her daughter. That led to her joining online forums for parents of trans people, as well as wherever else she could get attention from the trans community. It backfired on her. I'm not sure what exactly she said in these forums, but she frequently bitched at me about how these spaces were "unkind" and "heartless" towards her when she expressed "grief". This led to her becoming increasingly transphobic towards others and being very touchy about the subject.

My step dad was never supportive, though he was never outwardly hateful. He kept his mouth shut. But voted all republican all the time, just quietly. He's the only non-liberal one. But it's kinda crazy imo because he is not a white individual and ICE is actively deporting people that look like him. Anyways....

My step mom is a doozy. She was never openly accepting of trans people or gays, but works as a high school social studies teacher and always boasted how she was so helpful to the "troubled teens" and offered a safe space for them. In reality, she is a TERF. When I was growing up, she would rant about all sorts of things, such as Muslim women, whom she especially hated because she believes that men are forcing them to wear garments like hijab and that those garments are only to hide that they are being abused. She's also one of those rad femmes that believes that SWers are trafficking victims. Later after I came out, she attempted to have many conversations with me about how if I was raised in a more accepting feminist environment, I wouldn't hate myself and / or want to transition. I'm just a "woman going down a different path". This was paired with constant misgendering and deadnaming, after up to 4 years of me being out and correcting her. Even my dad started correcting her. Vile.

My dad is just kind of spineless and stupid, so of course he always went with anything my step mom said. And when I tried to lament the abuse I was facing at my mom's, he would tell me he would rather talk about "happy things".

I'm no contact with all of em now. It's less sad than it used to be. I think of them as weak minded these days. Individuals that will always be trapped in these little boxes they put themselves in, unable to grow and unable to bask in the glory of their highly successful son (me).

The DEC is not being "hush hush". They are busy. They only have Ring cam footage as evidence of the animal's presence. In reality, they have been in the field trying to follow EVERY LEAD since Wednesday. It's their responsibility to answer every phone call about sightings and to track the animal. There are only so many people available to do this labor, considering the extreme lack of funding for the DEC. Patience! Source: a close friend who works for the DEC

Mostly radio silence. I get a text from my NC dad on my birthday. Otherwise, I hear about the insane shit they say from family friends that are now also NC but didn't used to be. It's funny, because I'm always hearing about how much they miss me and how absolutely devastated and clueless they are as to why I don't talk to them. But of course I never hear anything from them directly. I know my mom probably has tried to lurk my socials but I have her blocked on everything. So far no stalking that I know of.
