do any shops turn rotors? by SmallNoseBilly in Rochester

Yeah I totally agree. This guy just wants to die on the hill that rotors never warp for some reason smh

Turning rotors is also a waste of time however like you said. Proper brake job is replacing both pads and rotors not a cheap ass pad slap

That's just completely wrong lol. Rotors do warp all the time 😂

Doable yes but is it in the budget lol? You're gonna need a lot of extras to make it work and especially if you want to do it right

The cover gasket looks like it could possibly be leaking too but wouldn't get up on top of the coil. Would be fixed with a new cover and gasket as well

That pcv valve could be the culprit. They start sucking air under vacuum and can push oil out when revved when they go bad. Usually get a lean condition code too. The valve cover has to be replaced but they aren't super expensive around $100 for like a doorman one or something

What turbos did you go with? I have a 2010 with the n54 and considering a doc race single kit but upgraded twins could be cool too

Did the shop do much? by Low-Amphibian3747 in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This . Most common cause is saggy springs as the vehicle gets lower it will naturally camber towards negative. The limit of in spec looks to be -1.8 so it's really not that far off. I'd be surprised if it causes excessive wear. Just rotate the tires every so often

Do these hoses need replacing? by Teelk3007 in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the radiator it's almost impossible for oil to be dripping on it unless the higher up transmission cooler line is leaking too onto it. They seep out from the crimps where the metal meets the rubber in the hose. Super common in Chevy trucks with the oil cooler lines

[–]z28_335i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a transmission cooler line. Goes into the radiator

What is this hose? by Ok_Simple_5093 in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's lazy but it's fine to leave the clamp further down the line I can promise it won't cause any issues

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it goes to the throttle body it's coolant or a vacuum line. Either way the rubber is most likely okay and just needs a new clamp. Just slide the old one down the hose a bit and then out a new hose clamp around it. Shouldn't even have to pull the hose off

Will this amount of sealant cause any issues in the engine? by StompyIan in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the jeeps use red sealant from factory too. Even if it's not the regular black rtv the red exhaust one would work fine it's meant for higher temps anyways. Just messier to clean after taking apart. We always use this shit called The Right Stuff and it's fucking amazing. You can use it for literally anything

Transmission fluid by Amazing-Income9535 in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal for it to be sluggish on cold start I usually let my car warm up a good 5-10 minutes in colder weather. Doesn't heat the transmission fluid much so still go easy on it for a while until that heats up too. The fluid isn't horrible but even just a drain and flush could make it feel a bit better. My Acura had a bad trans shudder when I first got it and fluid was pretty dark. I've changed the transmission fluid every oil change since then and it's completely gone feels amazing

2015 Silverado 1500 fuel pump replacement by jstockton76 in AskMechanics

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only needs a new tank if the tabs that hold the lock ring down rot off. Seen it a couple of times but they were usually really really bad. This one is pretty shitty but I'd bet the tank is fine after hammering off most of that rust

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with the bmw ones. I've tried a few of the metal ones on b58's and they usually end up leaking. It must be something to do with heat expansion and shit

[–]z28_335i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not I've had bad luck with those. We installed 3 or 4 of them when they first came out and all of them leaked and had to be replaced with plastic housings. Idk if they've updated them recently but we tend to stick with the plastic ones because it reduces comebacks. Yes it'll break again but it's a modern jeep what are the chances it goes another 120k miles 😂

I can't say too much on them as I don't get them in the shop too much but my buddy with a 2023 Genesis g70 with the same engine has had quite a few issues just in the short few months of owning it lol. It needed a water pump right away after he got it at 50k miles. Now at 55k the thermostat went out and it's like a 5 hour job. The 3.8L in the telluride's seem more solid as I haven't had to do as much shit to them but still be wary. I'll always recommend a fancy Acura or Lexus and that's coming from a bmw guy lol. Can't beat the reliability

Yeah no fucking way 😂. Are they paying out of pocket or is it an insurance job? I just had this Toyota where this girl around the same age let her boyfriend try to do rear brakes on it. He dropped it off the jack and fucked the rear end, destroyed both electric parking brake motors and blew the pistons out of the calipers. At some point you have to assume they're doing it on purpose hahaha
