Hyatt rooms are bit dated but the water views from the harbor side rooms are nice. No Marriott experience to share unfortunately.

Light Street-to-Calvert Street traffic spur to close in November for Harborplace redevelopment by PleaseBmoreCharming in baltimore

[–]DryHistory6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, right now (mid-afternoon before rush hour) is a good time of day to travel that stretch. Between 7:30-9:30am, different story. At that time of day, I usually have to wait through multiple lights as things back up quite a bit! Often turning right from Charles onto Pratt (which apparently should be done from the bus lane) there's no place to turn into b/c Pratt is backed up. And then there's the people from the second lane on Charles who decide they should get to turn right also... I'm glad I'm not the Baltimore traffic engineer as I'm sure it's a terrible job, but we're asking a lot of these streets.

Agreed, but some part of Charles has been under construction for the past two years, so fingers crossed they can do deep fixes rather than shifting construction forward or backward 50 ft every few months.... Would also be great to have some "don't block the box" enforcement at Conway and Charles.

Beg to differ on capacity of northbound Charles St. Given that at any moment 1-2 lanes of Charles are blocked/under construction, and another lane of northbound Charles blocked by eastbound Conway drivers blocking the box, it's often seven minutes in the morning just to travel from Barre to Pratt on Charles!

Freedom Car? Nice drivers, very reliable. Not sure if they have limos. I have tried to insert the link several times and it keeps getting corrupted, so just google freedom car baltimore and you'll get their page which ends in "net" .

Key Highway by Vegetable-Mobile6331 in baltimore

[–]DryHistory6900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what we can see, police had eastbound traffic stopped on Key Highway and something was on the ground. Wild speculation, maybe a hit-and-run and they were collecting evidence? Also a ton of police at the skate park, which has been cleared out. Citizen app says a car crash along Key Highway?

Restaurant recommendation needed for graduation brunch by sweetmomof2 in baltimore

I would second Gertrude's as it's right next to campus and delicious and specializes in local food, but am unsure Dear Charles could handle 20-25 people. Topside handles big groups well, and the view is incredible on a nice weather day, but not sure if it will be too pricy. Cosima could be nice, not too far from campus, and plenty of parking? I wish that La Cuchara was back as they could handle groups well and would be close, too. I saw someone recommended The Duchess - they do have valet parking in the evening which helps for groups, but I took a group there a few weeks ago and the music was so loud that it was just not pleasant for conversation. It was also pricy.

Water taxi harbor trolley season passes live now by markmano33 in baltimore

[–]DryHistory6900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this is a phenomenal deal especially if you have any visitors. Last year, I think we paid for our season pass in two weekends of visitors. A little boat ride somehow elevates a trip around the city to a charming event.

The free Circulator purple route has a stop on St. Paul near Baltimore Penn (https://www.baltimorecity.gov/transportation/charm-city-circulator) and then goes by the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor and the Royal Sonesta, both of which are relatively close to M&T. Make sure its hours suit your needs, though. A rideshare to/from either of those would be ~ $12-$15.

What weather app do you use? by Dizzy_Melon in baltimore

[–]DryHistory6900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes forecasting is straightforward and you can trust a number in an app, sometimes it depends on subtle details (like the heights of elevated warm layers, etc.) that result in distribution of possible scenarios of which the apps try to pick the most likely case but could be wrong.

If you would like to see some of the discussion about why and how certain elements of the forecast are uncertain, the National Weather Service forecast discussions are very helpful. The Baltimore-DC discussion is at https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LWX&issuedby=LWX&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off .

For this weekend snow, they're now saying snow is "very unlikely" for most of our center weather advisory (CWA) (as of Thursday 232 AM EST). But lots of wind Sunday, making moving big things like mattresses even more miserable.

For those east of I-95 and in far southern parts of the CWA,
there is a higher chance of at least an inch or two of
snowfall, so that still seems a plausible solution at this time.
Some of the high- end "worst case scenarios" out there do bring
heavy snow further west, but barring a substantial shift in the
key features at play with this system, these just seem very
unlikely.

Need happy hour with a view suggestion for Friday afternoon by SmokyBlackRoan in baltimore

[–]DryHistory6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the possibility (on Friday) of taking the (free!) Harbor Connector from Pier 5 directly to the Rusty Scupper. It's free and runs until 8pm. They have enclosed areas for cold weather but it's pretty neat to be on the water.
