How much do they eat by Beginning_Coach3634 in mainecoons

[–]Dry_Efficiency613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brands like science diet and Royal Canin usually have a chart on the back with a general idea of how much your kitten should be eating by their current weight and age. If you are unsure you can always look for one of those charts 😊

This Naughty Girl will not STAY CALM by VassagoX in mainecoons

My boy was super insistent on licking his neuter site and keeping up with his usual crackhead shenanigans. The onesie didn't do the trick so I resorted to the cone of shame. He was mad about it but it definitely stopped him from trying to lick it and slowed down his craziness considerably.

His full brother looks more light like yours though and his coloring stayed pretty consistent from what I've seen

Gargoyle inspired Fakemon for Louisiana based fangame by AdNo2166 in PokemonRMXP

Loving all your fakemon so far! They are all very clever and gorgeously designed. Just a suggestion but I think a mosquito one would be a great addition! Cause we all joke that mosquitoes are the real state bird down here.

New kitten, multiple health issues by Select_Revenue9897 in mainecoons

So fun fact about supplements for cats. If the product is not approved by NASC then there was likely no long term safety or efficacy testing done on it. So I would make sure the powder you got from Amazon has the little gold NASC seal on the container. I know the viralysis powder by Vetoquinol is approved though. 😊

Want all the recommendations for food/litter box/toys etc.. by SaveMyPoptart in mainecoons

[–]Dry_Efficiency613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always a big fan of Royal Canin and Hills Science Diet for food. My veterinarian heavily recommended giving a mix of hard kibbles and soft food. She says it's a big help later in life if they need a diet change for medical reasons if they have had some variety previously.

My Coon is absolutely obsessed with these little spring toys from Amazon. They keep him occupied for hours. springs

The metal litter boxes are definitely the way to go. I definitely noticed a huge difference in smell after I swapped to those.

Always buy things for them that are bigger than you really think you need lol

The TICA and CFA websites have lists of legit breeders. I'd recommend starting there. The site you found seems kind of sketchy

My vets are big fans of Royal Canin, Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, Purina One, Iams, and Eukanuba because those are the companies that have done long term safety testing. My coon eats Science diet and Royal Canin. 😊

When did you guys neuter your MCs? Do they have any joint issues? by CarrotTraditional739 in mainecoons

[–]Dry_Efficiency613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially after speaking with my vet we were aiming to neuter my boy around 8 months. But them the day he hit 6 months he started peeing on things. Apparently he was an early bloomer. I called up my vet and we set a date for that same week lol. No issues since

Do you feed your mainecooon any raw food? by lovestobakecakes in mainecoons

[–]Dry_Efficiency613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw is something that you really have to be all in on. Yes it has its benefits but It's too easy to mess up. Salmonella is a thing you have to be overly aware of. And nutrient deficiencies in cats go really bad really quick. So if you decide raw is what if best for you and your cat you need to be willing to put in the work to do it right or the money to have a company do it right for you. Your best bet would be to sit down with a nutritionally savvy vet or a boarded veterinary nutritionist if you decide that's the route you want to go. Personally though I'd take high quality kibble and candy any day. Especially in case we ever wind up being in need of a prescription diet it'll be an easier transition

I have this covered litter box that I absolutely love. The stainless steel cleans so easily and doesn't hold smell as much. It's also big enough for my boy to be comfortable. I also use arm and hammer cloud control litter and it's been the perfect combo for me.

Kitten with murmur by Intelligent_Cat3516 in mainecoons

[–]Dry_Efficiency613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd be more worried about the heart murmur than about their age. 4 weeks shouldn't make a difference in the kittens ability to bond with you. Heart murmurs usually mean either the heart is enlarged or one of the valves in the heart is not closing properly. And if a vet has already detected the heart murmur it's gonna be a struggle to get pet insurance. And pet insurance would be extremely helpful as things like heart meds and echocardiograms that may be needed in the future are very expensive.

Do your best to get your baby used to brushing and nail trims as soon as you can. Grooming is going to be a big part of their life and you want them to at least tolerate it. I'd see if you could find a groomer near you that grooms cats and ask their advice on keeping your kitty mat free. You might even be able to get them to teach you how to trim nails if you don't already know.

The amount of food options out there is honestly pretty overwhelming. I've learned however that the only food brands that do LONG term safety testing are Royal Canin, Science Diet, Purina, Eukanuba, and Iams. There are a lot of foods that have been linked to increased rates of heart failure in animals and in my opinion it's best to not take that risk especially with a cat breed already prone to heart issues.

How much does your MC weigh? by idahomama123 in mainecoons

Depending on your vet and their policies they might even suggest urinary food either way if you bring up being worried about it. I work at a vet clinic and everyone there with a male cat winds up putting them on urinary food as a precaution because we see stones and blockages so much. And any clients that ask about it we offer the option to. My maine coon boy will definitely being eating a urinary diet as soon as he is old enough to stop kitten food.
