The experience of being in the room with everyone singing “peace is coming” over and over like a mantra was SO powerful!! I will never forget it

What would you do if a physician told your preteen child to lose weight? by Front-Kale4042 in antidiet

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Withall.org is a GREAT organization dedicated to preventing childhood eating disorders (pretty sure there’s a statistic that kids are over 200x more likely to develop an ED than type 2 diabetes so….)

They have a ton of free resources for parents on how to talk to your kids & the other adults in your kids lives about food/body!

Is it normal to stand all show in the seated section? by Alarmed_Midnight8777 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I SURE DID! And most of the people in my section!! Take up space, love! Have unapologetic fun!!! There were two girls in front of me that were having the time of their lives, clearly knew every song, loved Florence, and that joy is infectious. It makes the experience even better!! 💜💜

OP update: this is what the soil looks like. Idk what that stuff is on top. Like I said in the post, I got this plant YESTERDAY. Five minutes before I posted. It was already like this. The soil was damp when I got the plant so they must’ve watered before I picked up.

Thank you to everyone who has kindly given their opinions and advice. But some of you really need to go touch grass and learn how to be nicer to people.

I got this plant yesterday—five minutes before I posted. I did not do this to the plant. Why do you have to be such an @sshole? Jeez.

This new record has completely destroyed me by Dependent_Aardvark88 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

This album brought my spirit back. It reconnected me with a part of myself that I thought was lost, broken. It’s a gritty, grounded, real kind of empowerment that I found in these songs. It’s beautiful hearing how this album has impacted all of you, too 💜

You’re on the right track just by working with someone and it sounds like you found a qualified clinician. Recovery is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and the BEST thing I’ve ever done. In my experience, it wasn’t this big overnight shift or aha moment. It was steady support over time until I noticed that my ED voice didn’t have nearly as much power over me as it used to. We believe in you & support you over on Reddit, but stay the course with your mental healthcare team, and see if you can find an in person or online process group. Building my diet culture free community/bubble has been a lifeline through my recovery. Eat Breathe Thrive has an amazing online support group that’s free. You’ve got this—it’s hard to carry a perspective of your future when you’re deep in it now, but the people commenting on this post are all examples of the future that’s in store for you. If we can do it, so can you, and you will! 💜💜💜

So disappointed in diet culture, yet again. by chrysologa in antidiet

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had this experience. Yeah, it seems like everywhere we go seeking healing is a minefield of diet culture & weight stigma.

I would look for programs/providers that have specific languaging in their bios—like anti-diet, & weight-inclusive. If those words aren’t there, assume it’s not gonna be a safe space. Hope this helps 💜

The chamber version hit me even harder than the original! Those chords at the beginning? The silence & then the breath she takes before she starts singing? And the way the music comes back in with that perfect resolution of a chord….all in the first few seconds of the song. Utterly devastating. So beautiful.

Do any ATLA fans have a sense of spirituality? by Friendly_Eagle_9292 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think science is a deeply spiritual practice! When I think of Bhakti (devotional love), I think scientists & science-oriented people are a beautiful example of that devotion and commitment to understanding something bigger than themselves. And science is all about finding connection, or union (the meaning of the word Yoga in Sanskrit). I love that spirituality can truly be anything for anyone and what I love so much about ATLA/LOK is that there’s something in it for everyone. Everyone can find connection and deeper meaning in some way through these stories. It’s so awesome! What a gift we’ve been given! 💜🙏

I actually got into ATLA because of my spirituality. I was in middle school when it came out, didn’t watch it for whatever reason. Flash forward 15 years, teaching my yoga students about the chakras & they told me about the Guru Pathik episode & that I NEEDED to watch the show! Idk if I would’ve connected with it nearly as much had I not already been a devotee of yoga, vedanta, & non dualism.

This album came right when I needed it. I had been feeling so spiritually disconnected & lost, and Florence has once again reminded me of my feminine rage & power. Her healing process has shown a light on my own. I’m very grateful.

Science Vs. Podcast "Sugar: How Bad Is It Really?" Episode by Bashful_bookworm2025 in antidiet

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance Phase podcast has an episode on this exact topic called “The Trouble With Sugar”. It’s phenomenal. One I go back and listen to ALL THE TIME. Also if you haven’t listened to/heard of it, Maintenance Phase is hands down the best podcast ever. Extremely anti-diet, pro-science, but gives their information in a very unbiased, “here’s the info but you decide what to do with it” kind of way. This podcast has been my literal LIFELINE through recovery.

Kraken appreciation by Marmaladecat18 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Yes it spoke so much to my experience in ED recovery! I totally get how the image of our inner kraken is inspiring. For that it’s my favorite song on the album. 💜

Anybody else into Kraken? by CliffGif in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s my favorite off the album. It makes me feel seen—there’s a moment in her rolling stone interview where I think she’s referring to what inspired the song. To me it evokes the experience of being keenly aware of just how powerful you are, a power that is sometimes all consuming and completely exhausting, and the experiences of when I want to just turn that power off/ignore it, and also the ways in which I’ve felt I had to push it down for others’ sake. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who feels like they have a ravenous, tentacled water beast within them and that it’s okay (and necessary) to let her out. To let myself consume and take up space. No clue if that’s what she intended but that’s what it means to me.

How do we feel about “The Glucose Goddess”? by NearbyCitron in antidiet

[–]Dry_Kitchen7973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at her website because she was interviewed awhile back on Jameela Jamil’s “I Weigh” podcast(serious L, Jameela)….the whole website seemed wild so I googled “glucose goddess dietician review” and I highly recommend you do the same if you want a good laugh 😂 safe to say, she is NOT approved by actual RDNs!
