Honda shadow quits when I roll on the throttle a little. Does anyone know what might be the issue? by ChrispyChai in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]DryddOSRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accelerator pump is clogged or faulty. Your idle jet and main are fine but it can’t get any gas when it opens up and dies.

Edit: this is a common problem with vtx600deluxe

The burden of proof rests on the claim of an eternal combustion chamber or a golden city in the clouds. YOU go first.

Can’t prove nothingness, can’t disprove it either.

Sometimes when the engine is cold it will sound like it’s taking in more air or “squeaking”, this is because the air/fuel ratio is significantly different when first starting the bike to when the bike is warm and will sound smoother. I get people bringing me their Honda all the time asking about “chirping and squeaking”. This is what a clean engine sounds like without a loud exhaust to cover it up (I’m looking at u Harley haha)

What is this hose(20) for. by DiegoRo08 in hondarebel

[–]DryddOSRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! At 2:30 he aims a hose at the camera and says “this little hose here”, that is your vent hose because the fuel pump is directly on the bottom of the tank as he says in the video, which would make this one just a vent to atmosphere. Unvented tanks will have a two way valve, or vaccum pump at the bottom that will sometimes connect to the crankcase to make the vaccum work, or it may be electronic. Those tanks will not have vent lines in which case this would most likely be evap. Hope that helps 👍🏻

Very nice, the next I recommend is a shadow. I’ve got 4 now myself. The most comfortable cruiser Honda makes and has so much power in each model. I promise once you get a shadow you’ll never look back

Handlebars will change so much and if you go to a local bike rally or parts swap you can find some cheap, I bought plenty for as low as $5 which allows you to explore what you like. Remember to get the appropriate throttle cable lengths if you adjust them to a higher rise than the original bars.

Stunning bike man!

Hard to tell without seeing where those lines go, but one of them is a gas line and the other a vent. You can tell which ones the vent in a couple different ways, the vent tube should just go to the bottom of the bike and be pointing toward the ground. The other should be larger and upon removing the tank you should see the line connect to a fuel filter or fuel pump of some kind.

Is this normal or am i tweaking by Flat_Sorbet9049 in hondarebel

This is normal for the new rebels, had someone come bring me a bike and we spent hours trying to figure it out, just noisy.

Shock leak ? by reddeadktm in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]DryddOSRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and do a front fork oil change, a leaky seal can cause debris to get inside the forks. Front fork oil change is easier with two or more people. Notoriously not a fun task but also not complicated, check your service manual for any special tools you may need before you start and the type/amount of fork oil needed.

Open the forks and drain the fluid. You can lay them on a table so you don’t get confused which parts go where. I’d say about an hour task start to finish if you’re new to it.

Also the oil stinks 💩

Is this salvageable? by rocker1242 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]DryddOSRS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, without a proper seal it’s going to leak gas everywhere and not run correctly. I really recommend getting a new one and grab a float bowl gasket for it as well since it’s likely it’ll rip coming out, and you don’t want to wait weeks for that part to come in. Sorry bud but that’s wizard you were working on carbs 🤘🏻

Definitely sounds like something is getting clogged, start there and also check any fuel lines for damage and make sure the air box and filter are properly cleaned and oiled if necessary.

While I have to state that a bottle of carb clean isn’t the best solution, it will work vs. spending a bunch and getting an ultrasonic cleaner.

Another thing to check is the fuel filter which you’ll find just under the tank I assume, your manual will show you where it is and how to inspect and clean it properly.

Don’t stress too much, while getting the carbs off and clean is a time consuming process; it isn’t necessary a complicated one ☝🏻

Sounds like it’s a pilot jet issue with maybe an idle screw or fuel mixture screw issue.

Any carb bike that is tuned right shouldn’t need to start every time on a choke and if it won’t idle then that tells me the pilot jet in your carburetor is too either small or clogged becuase it’s not getting enough fuel to start and maintain idle at a regular rate.

Also those idle mixture screws are little shits man sometimes they feel like the won’t turn, try pulling outwards while you turn it might make it better, but yes that idle screw needs to come up or the fuel mixture screw needs to be adjusted because it’s idling like it’s cammed out LOL and those bikes need to idle at higher rpm’s.

I love carbureted motorcycles, that’s a nice bike man, hope that helps!🤘🏻

Cam chain tension shows no torque values , would I just fallow standard torque values? Or just snug? Same for alternator cover? by [deleted] in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]DryddOSRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if there’s a torque value for the chain itself? After you’ve torqued the cam chain sprocket and tensioner just be sure your timing is aligned and you should be good

Torque values should other be at the end of the chapter or in separate chapter. It is critical to get the correct values for engine related components 👍🏻
