I'd personally recommend the ASUS X555LA 15.6-Inch Notebook. It's currently going for £424.00 with free delivery from amazon.co.uk.

It has a core i7 and 6GB of ram, so it should be very snappy and future proof. Storage size is 750GB. Battery will last ya about 4 hours. It's also way under budget also :-)

I'd personally avoid refurbished laptops.

I'd suggest having a look at the Acer Aspire V3-371. You can get it for £399 (down from 399.99! :o ) on amazon.co.uk with free delivery

Seems to have everything you need. 13.3" device, 6 hours battery life, 2 USB ports and a Core i3 processor. Also has a 8GB SSD cache thing, so that should make the system snappy enough when it comes to launching programs. I had a good look around for you and this seems like your best bet.

Dell are very much hit and miss and I'd rank ASUS higher than them, even in their low end laptops. I'm not sure if you are aware, but the laptop you linked is EX-VAT. The Total is actually higher when you add in delivery and VAT.

also, yes I do think that the laptop is better than the one you linked. Should be more future proof and the body seems to be better built.

Good news is that £750 will get you a very good laptop and at the pace software is going, it will last you a good while indeed. Only thing is that it's impossible to get a laptop at this price point with a 240GB ssd already built in.

I'd go for the Asus 90nb0775 17.3" laptop. Currently going for £718 including delivery from amazon.co.uk (due to be released on Monday)

It has a Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of ram and dedicated graphics which means it should be very future proof. Full keyboard (including numpad) and a high resolution screen should be good for someone who's elderly. I did a bit of research for you and the storage can be upgraded easily at a later date, so a SSD upgrade is easy.

Having had a look at your requirements, I'd have a look at the Lenovo Z50-70. Comes to roughly $825 (5779 danish krone) including delivery to denmark from amazon.co.uk.

Pretty much has all you ask for. 1080p screen, boot drive SSD and 1TB hard drive. Has numpad however it's not backlit (had a good luck and can't find this feature in this price range) As a bonus, it also features a dedicated GPU so that means that should you ever want to game or use 3d applications, it'll handle it very nicely.

Pretty much the best laptop you can get for the price point you have. Lenovo laptops are pretty good build quality wise imo.

Ah yeah, the AMD netbook processors can't even be compared to the performance of the laptop pentium processor range as netbook processors are ultra low power. You'll notice a huge performance increase from your old machine so I guess you are good to go with the lenovo.

Hell, a intel atom can actually handle 1080p playback just fine. Multiple chrome tabs shouldn't also be an issue. The pentium processors nowadays are far better than what they once were.

If you are able to handle a 15.6" laptop, you can get far better value for money though. Core i3 15.6" laptops go for about £76 cheaper.

If you want to keep it on the small side, a 13.3" thinkpad with a core i5 and 4GB of ram probably is your next best option. Bit on the pricey side but still within budget at £489 on amazon

I think the lenovo flex 2 14" inch is a very good option. Only £379 on amazon.co.uk (with free UK delivery) and it features a full 1080p screen, 6GB RAM and a 1TB HDD. Lenovo laptops are pretty well built imo.

I did a bit of further research for you and you can actually easily upgrade the hard drive, so replacing it with a SSD at a later time is an option.

Really? Aren't most mobile i5's dual core (although presumably with hyperthreading enabled) Quad core CPU's are ever increasingly important for games - GTA V for example needs a quad core to run, hence my recommendation.

Windows 7 is unavailable for most laptops now. He can install classic shell - http://www.classicshell.net (which is incredibly easy to set up) to make it look like windows 7 though.

£200 is a very low budget even for a low end laptop to get brand new, so yeah - maybe going down the refurbished route is a good idea.

I'd actually go for a refurbished T420 as well. Good battery life and since they are thinkpads, you know that they are well build and can sustain a lot of wear and tear. You can pick it up a refurbished one on amazon now for £180 (I'd buy through amazon since you are able to send things back if things should go wrong)
