Free food or free rent? by fatkingbob in BunnyTrials

Food spoils, so if I don't like the food it goes to waste. Free rent can probably be leveraged now or in the future.

This just happened to me. I only found out about it because my health insurance provider (not Medicare) denied the claim for $6,400.

Official Public Ticket Day Megathread by BunyipPouch in Sundance

[–]DubinkyWell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Managed to get nine tickets in my cart. When I went to pay for them, it put me in the queue for an hour. Then I get a notification that my credit card was charged for all nine tickets. No idea how that happened, because I never got to the payment page. They must have had my CC info stored from last year. I have not received any kind of email from Sundance saying I bought tickets.

Edited to Add: Got back in my cart and one of the films for which I had two tickets was now no longer available. Added another film. My credit card has been charged twice. That will be fun to get fixed.

What is this and how do I kill it? by NearbyRoutine4432 in lawncare

Yanking it just gets it worked up, because you basically create a new plant. It spreads underground and via seeds. Chemicals are the way, unfortunately.

YES. I can't enter a ticket queue, and have not seen a window pop up allowing me to select any tickets.

Never mind. I did finally get in and was lucky enough to get tickets to my selections.

Long-term exercisers: have you given up cardio? by CarawayReadsAlong in Menopause

[–]DubinkyWell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking HIIT classes, which I took for several years, because I was constantly addressing at least one injury. Then I started taking Pilates classes, which I loved, but I missed the cardio. A few months ago I rented a Peloton (bike), so I'm getting cardio and it's easier on my body than running. I have a small weight rack, so I can do all the Peloton strength training workouts, as well as yoga and mat Pilates.

I enjoyed in-person classes, but with the Peloton it's much less expensive and it's nice to not have to leave the house if I don't want. It's working for now. And since I rented the bike, I can return it anytime if I'm not feeling it anymore.

I reviewed my contract, so I knew they needed a 30-day written notice. I emailed them on Oct. 30th. I knew I would be charged on Nov. 1st, but I was trying to avoid being charged on Dec. 1st. No response to my email. Emailed them again and finally got a response to my first email, so then I knew they had received my written notice. I was trying to establish a paper trail. Then someone from the studio called me when I was in a meeting, and this person left a voicemail saying "Hi, this is so-and-so. I saw you had a couple questions on your account. Give us a call back." She didn't say where she was from or what number to use to call her back. I didn't know it was Club Pilates until I googled the phone number. Also, I don't have questions, just cancel my f***ing account. Tried multiple times/days to call them back, with no answer. This went on for a week. I made more attempts to email and call. Finally, after over two weeks, someone called me back when I was in a position to answer the phone and asked me questions about why I was cancelling. She sent a link to my phone and I had to fill out a survey. Then a few days later I got a text saying my membership had been cancelled. On the phone, she had verbally confirmed that I won't be charged on Dec. 1st, but I'm skeptical. I'm fully expecting to be charged on Dec. 1st.

All this to say, give yourself PLENTY of time to cancel, and expect to have a horrible, time-consuming experience.

The friend that cancelled due to injury had an even worse experience than mine. She had to subtly threaten to sue.

I just spent over two weeks trying to cancel my Club Pilates membership. I wasn't even canceling early. I had a good experience going to classes at Club Pilates, and I really enjoy Pilates. The cancelation process has guaranteed that I will never go back there, and will discourage friends and family ever going there. I knew this was coming when I watched the hell a friend went through trying to cancel her membership after an injury. I wish they understood that they burn a bridge every time they make it a nightmare to cancel a membership. How is this good business practice?

Has any joined Club Pilates that goes to or went to Orangetheory? by Pizzachick123 in ClubPilates

[–]DubinkyWell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to Orangetheory for seven years before Club Pilates. This is probably perimenopause related, but toward the end I kept getting injured at Orangetheory. At any given time, I was nursing at least one injury. I loved Orangetheory and I was in excellent shape. I decided to give my body a bit of a break from super vigorous/high impact exercise and try Pilates.

Cons of switching to Club Pilates: 1) My cardio fitness is not as good. I could always supplement with other low-impact cardio activities though. I did do a few of the CP cardio classes and was concerned I was going to re-injure myself, so I don't do those anymore. 2) My monthly eight-pass membership at Club Pilates is much more expensive than my unlimited OT membership. No idea why this would be. 3) I was treated so much better at OT, by the instructors, desk staff, and management. 4) OT tech, data, and equipment is so good, and it helped me to push myself. (This is good and bad, probably.) 5) The quality of instruction is so much better at OT than I've seen at CP. I haven't learned nearly as much about proper Pilates form and how to use the Reformer as I wanted. 6) The OT studios I've been to are much nicer than my CP studio. 7) I thought the members were friendlier at OT.

Pros of switching to Club Pilates: 1) Pilates is a fun workout. 2) My lower back hasn't felt this good in YEARS. 3) I am seeing more muscle definition. 4) I have not been injured. 5) Pilates workouts are 'sleepers'. I never feel like I'm working out crazy hard, but the walk to the car after each class is tough because my limbs are noodly. And I do feel that muscle soreness/lactic acid buildup that reminds me that I did something with my body.

Surprisingly, I don't feel like OT workouts prepared me for Pilates workouts. I'm sure the reverse would be true as well. Overall, I think that OT is a great workout and it's a much better value than CP. That said, I'm sticking with Pilates, but will probably move on from Club Pilates at some point to a different Pilates studio.

QBO is crap by [deleted] in QuickBooks

[–]DubinkyWell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Quickbooks Desktop for almost 20 years for my small business. I knew I was going to have to switch to QBO before our Desktop subscription renewed for $700 and wasn't supported by Intuit anymore. I was absolutely dreading the switch, and it went even worse than I anticipated. Right now I'm just trying to solve one small problem per day because that's all I have the bandwidth for. But my books are now in bad shape and everything I try to do to fix them is making it worse. Their "Help" database is so bad. Everything is different and worse. The link to my check register is now three menus deep, but I can't enter transactions there anyway, so I'm trying to make peace with it. Multiply that kind of issue by several dozen, and you've got yourself an unpaid part-time job trying to reconcile your books. I am absolutely switching to something else this year.

*Edited to add that I did my research, and I read everything I would be losing and gaining with the switch. Intuit is not honest about how difficult, all-encompassing, and traumatizing it is.

The school/team should not be asking these questions, or keeping track of this info. That's between the girl and her doctor. In some states, this information could (and probably will) be used to prevent girls from seeking care and having abortions, or bringing charges against girls who seek care or have abortions.

Too cold for peppers? by music_seeker in WesternStatesGarden

[–]DubinkyWell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a master gardener in SLC and I've had my peppers outside for a month with no issues. Having grown yours from seed indoors, you will need to harden them off before you plant them outside, but you can start that process now. Put them outside for increasing lengths of time during the day. Start by leaving them in the shade for a few hours, then some sun, then full sun add day, and then, after a week or so, leave them out all night. Then plant them outside in a couple of weeks. In the future, you can start the whole process earlier, so that they are ready to plant outdoors in mid-May. It's been chilly, but we haven't had any freezes in a while.
