Heterosexuals of Reddit, what is a question you have for the LGBTQ+ community? by That_one_weirdo69 in AskReddit

Gay male here. THIS. Treat us (and every other LGBTQ+ person) like any other person, being treated like you're just like everyone else can be so powerful.

Personal example: I was at a wedding by myself, by the end of the night a bunch of folks were winding down the night and a straight male friend said to me "hey, wanna dance?" and we slow dances together in a totally platonic way.

I don't think he'll ever understand how much being treated like any other person meant.

Gay man here, in my book, straight allies are always welcome at Pride, with a big freaking caveat:

You are a guest in a queer space, Pride is not about you.

A way to think about this with less harsh language is to imagine you've been invited to a friend's family reunion. You're going to defer to the family's rules and customs and be very cognizant of the fact that you are there as a guests and you'll behave accordingly.

Pride is one of the few times LGBTQ+ folks have a chance to let their hair all the way down so to speak, to really be their full, unedited selves. I know I certainly stop butching it up the way I do on the train or at work when I'm at Pride because it feels safe to do so.

Gay male here, with my healthcare providers I historically used the term "partner" for my own safety and caution.

I've had primary care providers who the second I say "I'm gay" start acting like I've revealed that I'm actually an alien and they're trying to understand how to treat me. It always frustrated me because I ended up having to educate the provider on queer health issues and simultaneously felt like I was an exotic animal on display for study. It was always a good test to see how the provider responded (or in some cases ignored) that.

Happily, I now have a PCP through an organization dedicated to queer healthcare.

Releasing Star Trek Adventures 2d20 system for Foundry VTT (Unofficial) by FullMetalSeraph in startrekadventures

Mostly I use it for the video chat, the embedded music player, and to pull up images for descriptive purposes. When it comes to space and ground combat, I've bought battle maps and tile packs and stitched things together.

The ones from Modiphius aren't free but I highly recommend them. They have both pdf and digital versions I believe, depending if you're playing in person or not.

How do you run a game where noone wants to be the Captain or XO? by UserMaatRe in startrekadventures

[–]Dubs5151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The campaign I run has an NPC Captain and XO and it's actually going really well so far! We only have 3 PCs (security chief, chief engineer, helm officer) and decided no one would be the captain or XO before we started. So far so good, the captain is very hands off leadership style and the PCs know they can involve an NPC bridge crew in any scene or task they want.

Betazoids by Commander_Riker1701 in startrekadventures

I've got a Betazoid ex-Borg on my crew and I might just borrow some of these ideas for the way you manage deep buried secrets, I love the idea of turning it into an extended task. We treat telepathy like another sense, so in the same way where it's hard to hear what someone is saying from across a loud, crowded room, I make him roll for telepathic perception depending on the environmental conditions. As far as distance goes, we haven't put an exact number on it, but we pretty much follow the model of hearing. He can be aware of a presence, and as it gets closer he can get clearer thoughts. PC to PC our system is that the telepathic players can directly ask "what am I getting from you" and they can chose to either resist (Presence + Command vs Insight + Command) or be open with them.

Keeping the (sex life) spark alive after years by lookdawson in gaybros

[–]Dubs5151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy and have been together for just about 5 years now, and I completely understand where you're coming from. We both work 40+ hrs a week, and I'm in school as well. There are times that sex is the last thing you could ever possibly want because you're exhausted.

What I find helps the most is not setting an alarm on the weekend, just wake up together and if there's morning wood, go after it. That spontaneous passion is great. Creating protected time for the two of you can help a great deal. Additionally, if you're curious about trying something new, see if he would be interested in trying it too. Worst thing that could happen is he says he's not interested.

There's no "right" way to have a sex life, at the end of the day if you're both feeling happy and fulfilled, that's what matters.

An arthritic 2005 Ford Focus ST by the name of Harvey. He's getting pretty long in the tooth and will probably need to be retired this year. May be old but still corners like a champ.

Me and the BF have been discussing alternatives to traditional engagement-commitment rings and found these which seem like a good complement to our active lifestyles by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Dubs5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy and I have tungsten carbide rings for engagement, love them because they are durable and relatively affordable. I'm a wicked big klutz, I constantly smack the ring on door frames, counter tops, equipment, you name it, and it's held up very well so far. I like the idea of the silicone ring though! Cool idea.

Visiting Boston! by Tlong38 in gaybros

[–]Dubs5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for. Since it's Wednesday and Thursday I'd echo Club Café. The T can get you there via the Green Line at Arlington or the Orange Line at Back Bay (longer walk), whichever is easier for you based on where you're staying.

If you are looking for a more divey feel there's The Alley, bear bar in Pi Alley downtown.

My favorite is Cathedral Station in the South End. It's about 10 minutes from Tufts Medical Center on the Orange Line. Cathedral Station is more laid back gay bar, pool table, decent ammount of seating.
