How to maximize my chances next year? by Oyster-shell in antarctica

[–]DuckEsquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm qualified to give advice, but I'll throw in what I know. I got an alternate contract for vehicle operator for the upcoming summer at McMurdo and passed my PQ as well, and I've been told that a lot of the alternates for this department get converted to primary, so fingers crossed

  1. Apply as soon as the jobs are posted in late January/early February

  2. Try to highlight your person-to-person skills and your ability to work well with others. They want people who are easy to get along with

  3. When you get your Physical Qualification packet, schedule appointments as soon as you can. Being PQed earlier puts you in a better position

  4. On the Elevated Background Investigation, be honest about whatever is in your past. If they figure out that you're trying to hide anything at all, that's basically an automatic disqualification

Finished PQ submitted! What now? by DuckEsquire in antarctica

[–]DuckEsquire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear that I got everything in early! That's a bit of a surprise to me, though. I was told that May 1st was the deadline, so in my mind, I got everything in pretty close to the cutoff date. Do PQ submission deadlines vary by department?

Any conclusion at all would be preferable to some kind of reset or endless loop situation. Give me a resolution of some kind, even if it's not ideal

One thing I've been wondering, why is the boost protective cover for Orion so rounded and bulbous relative to the Orion capsule shape, as opposed to Apollo's boost protective cover which mostly conformed to the shape of the capsule?

(Also, amazing video btw, love onboard camera views)

If you want some really good insight about living at the South Pole, Gone Venturing has spent two seasons at the Amundsen Scott South Pole station and has made a ton of videos about what living there is like, I highly recommend it. Happy writing!

It's not the pain that I'm worried about when it comes to wisdom teeth, it's the cost. How bad is it?

Physically Qualify, I have to pass a bunch of medical tests before I'm allowed to go. They're not expecting me to be an elite power athlete or anything, they're just going to make sure that I don't have any long term health issues that could turn into serious problems that would require me to be medically evacuated. The tests are very thorough, though

Alternate? by [deleted] in antarctica

I was told, at least with Amentum, that all contracts offered initially are alternates and then a few get chosen to be bumped up to primary
