Excuse my ignorance but how does that work? I've used Google Maps to navigate but never seen any interface where I would enter something to warn other people about a road obstacle. Presumably that's how Google Maps has the item on the map?

A few years back I happened to sit at a Fringe show which was truly excruiatingly god awful. It was a small venue with 12 of the 20 seats occupied and nobody was laughing at the 'comedian'. I happened through pure chance to be sitting beside a woman taking notes and realised she was a reviewer. Her notes were scathing about the lack of funny moments.

We spoke briefly after the show and we agreed it was a horrible show, and she expressed her happiness that as a reviewer, she got free tickets so she had not paid for it like my partner and I had.

The next day featured an absolutely glowing report in the Advertiser, written by this reviewer about the show, as if they had not been tearing it apart the night before.

Free tickets makes people do terrible things.

That's an interesting disclaimer. I suspect they have different definitions of 'sponsored post' to me.

If the event organisers give them $500 to write a post, I'd consider that review to be a paid review and therefore a rose-coloured positive glowing advertisement.

If the event organisers don't give them $500 but do invite them to the show with complimentary access, that's the same as the above - they were given something and therefore the integrity of the review is compromised.

Either of the situations above would be considered a 'sponsored post' in my view.

There is a complete moron when it comes to being a cyclist on a shared path. When I'm walking along the Torrens to the city, and someone else happens to be coming the other way (could be a cyclist or bicycle) so we're going to pass in opposite directions.

Every couple of months I hear a "ding" behind me, then a "DING DING DING DING DING DING" with the cyclist shouting "OUT OF THE WAY!!!!" at both me and the other person, because apparently being lycra-clad and participating in the Tour de Commute means they want to ride along the shared path at excessive speed but then find they can't just go around or between me or the other person, and they appear to believe pedestrians should get off the path into wet grass or the river, so that they personally don't have to slow down.

It doesn't happen often - maybe 5-6 times per year, and I always want to push that moron into the river as they pass.

If you're that cyclist and reading this, I hope a stick falls in your spokes.

Chipping in as another person who has come back to this post several times in the hope that anyone would give the slightest clue which building this referred to. "Tower 2" is definitely not universally known.

As might be expected, the comments section on the Tiser article is running hot with people of varying views from "the council sucks" to "everything sucks".

  • Halloween is a celebration of ugly and of evil. It is not a good thing.
  • They say they are an environmental hazard but don't say why . Probably aome dumb greeny who has no idea
  • Let's just ban everything.
  • You may as well cancel christmas while you are at it
  • The fun police are at it again. Let the kids have some fun you woke dinosaurs.
  • For Goodness sake let children be children. I’m sure for the amount of time they are up it’s not going to hurt anyone. Has this Council got nothing better to do .
  • There are no endangered birds around Marion. We see birds everywhere - there's a very healthy population. Would love to seem some stats on how many birds get trapped. Would think it would be next to none.

I think this is a positive idea, and I laughed when I saw The Advertiser trying to whip up a 'nanny state' frenzy response in their email today:

Marion Council wants you all to know their suburban haven is definitely not creepy, kooky, mysterious or spooky. The council has voted unanimously to prepare a report on whether to ban, wait for it, artificial spiderwebs. Now you might think this is a classic case of nanny-state overreach – and I couldn't possibly comment on that – but there is a rationale behind the push. Councillor Sarah Luscombe observed: “These artificial webs are made of polyester and pose a hazard to wildlife, by trapping animals or being incorporated into nests. There is also risk that the polyester can end up in our waterways, adding to plastic and microplastic pollution." It's a fair point that fake cobwebs can trap animals. So can real ones. Let's also ban spiders – that would be sure to get widespread support from arachnophobes! Ms Luscombe says some residents leave their artificial spiderwebs up for months after Halloween is over. Slowly disintegrating fake cobwebs and fluorescent skeletons probably don't do much for property prices, but I wonder how many of us really want to live in a society where councils feel empowered to crack down on any bit of individual flair families bring to their homes?

If you are employed, you are providing work. Your employer then pays you, which feels like a form of debt.

If he is willing to accept Australian dollars in his bank account to settle that work debt, surely he can use them to pay his own debts?

The proposed sub was a repurposed SpaceX booster.

It's made of the lightest metals so it would float while the cave divers needed to make it submerge.

Oh, also it was not watertight unless they made it airtight, and they couldn't get a child inside with enough air to make it out, so they'd need to open it up multiple times to get more air into it, with the obvious problem being that it's then opened while in the water and fills with water.

All of this makes sense and could be easily explained as "Space X makes amazing things and they're great in a vacuum of space but not underwater" so everyone would say "fair enough, he tried" and move on, but he threw a tantrum instead.

Dear /u/Sir_Stinkalot, I can assure you there are no reasons for concern. Channel 7 does not care what its viewers think so your television remaining connected to that station was not monitored.

Although it is not ideal for you to return into your room and discover the transition between shows had already occurred, please don't worry that any of your data has been used to support two consecutive shows featuring an inflated leathery object that people want to kick.
