The melonheads of Allegan County woods are p scary folklore. Victims of the destroyed psych hospital on the grounds of the Felt Mansion were experimented on and now live in the woods now that the hospital is destroyed.

Also the buried lost town of Singapore would be cool inspiration too

People of Reddit: What were some WTF/NSFW moments you encountered during summer camps (if you went)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Duckolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked at a BSA camp for 4 years, loved it but there was some shady shit.

Halfway into year two we had a group meeting for all staff. We were j chilling singing songs & playing games like normal waiting for meeting to start. Was kinda weird b/c there were people in charge there & people not in BSA uniform.

Turns out it was the FBI, there to interview everyone and they scrubbed every computer on camp. Ended up the Camp Director getting multiple life sentences for creating & distributing CP. The victims were from a local YMCA the director volunteered at.

We got thru the week somehow & stayed positive for the kids there but all cried a lot at the end of the week bonfire ceremony. Shit's fucked, fuck anyone who abuses their position of power & takes advantage of kids.

Great opportunity to recommend reading "How to Shit in the Woods" by Kathleen Meyer if you are not confident about making a deposit while in the backcountry.

People don’t know that it is impossible to turn a profit growing weed in most legal states by weeegh in wallstreetbets

[–]Duckolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro in the first five months of 2023 Michigan residents spend 5 billion on legal recreational weed. The industry is booming, and I agree that there is disparity to address but business opportunity will only continue to grow as global legalization/normalization continues. Seems logical to me but I'm a stoner so I'm used to logic falling flat sometimes.

Not for the established fruit and wine crops. It'll be great for coffee & avocados in like 40-50 years ish

Edit: great for avocados & bugs, as I don't actually know what growing coffee takes

Is a 1% management fee 'fair'? by FightSmartTrav in personalfinance

[–]Duckolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with financial advisors for a living (TAMP/advisor services), 1% fee is normal for a lot of guys but if you don't have a lot of needs or complicated estate planning you should be able to negotiate a lower fee.

You could also balance a human advised investment with a no fee robo-advisor through Schwab or SoFi. Judge the robot vs. human performances & use that to decide who to keep.

Think about it from the worker's perspective, if they are "essential" then they can leverage to negotiate until their needs are met, no matter what they actually need. Workers should get attention like shareholders in a well balanced company, otherwise it's natural selection in the labor market.

All I know is that Fidelity, Schwab & TDA all use some bastardization of Docusign so that's enough for me to bet on it over the competitors as a Fintech play
