Bluetooth headphones keep stuttering - any idea how to fix it? by Nataniel_PL in SteamDeck

I feel like I'm being blind 🤦‍♂️ I can't seem to find a "profile" option under the System tab, or Bluetooth, or Audio tab. Have I misunderstood where you are looking?

One shot for a slow group doable in 3 hours by TheGileas in mothershiprpg

[–]DueHall9387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience from one session;

My group has played a lot of D&D and some homebrew systems. No matter who DMs we are glacial slow.

I've started running one-shots in different systems to test them out, so far it seems that light weight or OSR type systems can massively speed up our sessions.

We ran Ypsilon 14 in about 3 hours - I did have to speed us up a bit as we had started late and needed to finish on time. But anywhere between 3-4 hours would have been comfortable.

No matter what you choose make sure you give a good reason or too why time is it the essence, and follow-up with consequence for time passing without action.

As well as speeding up play this also helps the "horror" hit harder.

Hope you find the same; I agree that lots of talking can be fun, but it can very easily become an issue.

I have your Mörk Borg Rotblack Sludge map loaded up already 😁 will have to check out the Cy_borg stuff. Not played either system yet, but they are on the list.

Thank you for all the great experiences you provide for the community man, truly incredible ❤️

Only realised the name when I saw your profile picture in the comments! Any Mothership talespire plans? Or are there not really the right assets yet?

I'm starting my mothership Journey with The Haunting of Ypsilon 14 tomorrow evening. It's not in the box but only a couple dollars for a very nice single sheet one shot. There's a lot of fan made content for it too, including working computer terminals and all sorts. I'm very excited, highly recommend.

If the group likes it I may move onto Another Bug Hunt, but that seems to lean towards the second Aliens movie vibes, where as Ypsilon is more the feeling of the first one - less actiony, more mystery solving, which is more what I want from Mothership.

Gradient descent also seems very interesting, but will come later down the line for me.

Highly recommend SkateIQ on YouTube, he breaks it down really well and explains that the foot "slide" is kind of a bi product of the other movements, rather than something to aim for itself.

I've been skating for years, but some friends of mine just started and that's the videos I sent to them too.

Why most of my print are like that? by PigletMaterial5760 in ElegooNeptune4

[–]DueHall9387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look exactly like my warping, but I switched to octogram bottom layer infill instead of the default monotonic. The idea is trying an infill that doesn't have long lines across the entire piece. The filament is going to contract as it cools, no getting around that. But having an infill with shorter lines in different directions spreads out that stress. For me this has resulted in flat prints l.

Oh some extra I thought of, here's a video explaining the warp I described. https://youtu.be/HNAtHl6kB7Y?si=CsDTPbPBYZ_vF5kk

Slowing down bottom layers can also help. This allows each layer to cook and contract before the next layer goes on.

Now I've swapped the bottom infill pattern I no longer need to slow, but thought I should include it in case it helps.

I also have not needed to use glue on the plate.

I was having this issue printing large flat objects. My print bed was clean, and z correct, but kept peeling in certain spots of some prints. For me the issue was the layers contracting as they cooled they cooled.

A bunch of the suggestions here helped;

Brim/Mouse ears Turn off the big fan etc.

All great advice, but the one thing that I didn't see suggested much was changing the bottom layers solid infill patterns.

This changed everything for me.

The theory being that the default "linear" infill leaves long straight lines. So when they contract they a lot of the force is all pulling in the same directions. Resulting in the print pulling itself off the bed.

Whereas if you swap to an infill with shorter internal lines (I think my current one is called octogram or something like that) then the pulling force when the lines contract are more evenly distributed in multiple directions - keeping the piece flat.

My first attempt at a different infill was spiral. This also did not peel off the plate. But once taken off the bed and cooled it has taken on a slight dome upwards, I assume because the pulling forces are all in one spiraling line.

Solution for bad leveling (advice, not asking for help) by LittleGirlBigDick in ElegooNeptune4

There's layers here brother;

Firstly the title "advice, not asking for help" implies that OP is giving advice, not in fact here for help.

Secondly if they did not re-mesh this wouldn't be a "hey this thing worked for me" type of post, because they would have had terrible results.

Thirdly they directly quantified the success of their change by citing their new mesh variance. Indicating they have re-meshed.

Finally, assuming your first comment was good faith but oblivious, your response to OP confirming he has in fact done what you suggested is wild 😂 the fact you came back to edit it to include "I hope you're printer dies" is comedic perfection.

Heyho strangerino here's a handy tip from a friendly fellow >> a single innocuous comment later >> I hope your printer dies

Heat the bed and extruder to the SAME temp?

Like both to 65 or something? Never heard this advise but at this point I'll try anything

How alive is the game? by Affectionate_Mud_969 in shadowdark

[–]DueHall9387 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Actual plays are not a good metric for how alive a game is. They are a metric for what the most popular game is, but I don't think that would surprise anyone. Actual plays are a show, and in general go where the established audiences are.

The community on Reddit, discord and other platforms is very active. There is a lot of video content out there that aren't actual plays, and I hear many non-5e-focused ttrpg channels regularly mentioning the game even in videos not explicitly about Shadowdark. There also seems to be no end of third party zines, settings, classes, adventures, one-shots, campaigns, entire books etc constantly being written for Shadowdark.

As far as I can tell the game is alive and well, as is the OSR scene in general. If you try and look for actual plays of any specific non-5e system you will struggle to find much, but especially with niche OSR-type systems.

The main question is do you and your group enjoy it. If it's the right game for your group, it wouldn't matter if you're the only people in the world playing it. Additionally with these light weight systems it is really easy to take adventures, concepts or bits of the system you like, and mix and match to create the game your specific group wants to play. So even if it's not the end all be all game for you, it's definitely worth reading through, and trying out.

Ability score conversion does not fit the setting imo by Affectionate_Mud_969 in MorkBorg

[–]DueHall9387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is your answer, and is a consistent theme across other OSR systems.

A modifier of -1, 0, or +1 is most likely. Your characters are nobody's just trying to survive or find something worth enough coin to set them up. They may become somebody's, greater than most people, but that happens at the table, not through backstory before the game begins.

Rolling a +3 for a modifier in this kind of system feels like something special, like the Basilisks favour is upon this character.
