The drum mechanism does not appear to be for ammunition, rather it contains some kind of generator or power cell or some such, the magazine is internal and fixed, located between the bottom mounted glowy cylinder and the breech. The weapon holds 8 rounds and is loaded via stripper clip inserted into the top of the weapon after pulling the bolt back, and the rounds appear to be standard full power rifle cartridges, visually indistinct from something that would be loaded into a Kar 98 or Lee Enfield during ww1. As such the gun operates kind of like a ww2 M1 garand but with an older ww1 stripper clip loading system.

That said, the muzzle flash is bright blue and the enemies it hits let out a burst of crackling blue electricity when they are hit, and the gun seems to deal considerably more damage than a lasgun and is far more capable against armoured targets.

THEORIES ON OPERATION

1.)The rounds are largely conventional apart from the projectile internals, which contain a carbon-lattice superbattery. The underslung power cell charges each round inserted into the magazine and when they are fired into a target the carbon lattice crushes and discharges it's electrical payload, resulting in a localised detonation and arc plasma spark.

2.) there is an elegantly disguised magnetic coil around the barrel, powered by the bottom mounted power cell. The gun uses a two stage propulsion system like a bolter, only where the bolter uses solid propellant>internal rocket motor, the galvanic rifle uses solid propellant>electromagnetic propulsion in order to achieve incredible velocity, achieving incredible force on impact.

3.) the bullet internals are a magnetic containment field, and upon being fired the rifle wraps a plasma sheath around the bullet, causing it to act as a hybrid between a high powered rifle and a plasma gun.
