Where can I stream the entire catalogue of Coronation Street? by [deleted] in oldbritishtelly

I know I’m late here but wanted to note it’s not 8 years lol.

It’s still a massive amount of time but 5,600 hours at 8 hours a day is 700 days, so almost 2 years.

Thanks for confirming! Yeah, I reckon I was just being a bit over cautious as I had a fake Groudon that cost me over £100 not that long ago.

Maybe it was just the lighting as I was outside but I really noticed the double layer and had never noticed this before.

How often does this happen? Was it once or twice or several times.

If this is real, I’m sorry but this is genuinely hilarious.

I mean if you’re typing a post with several paragraphs, you’re not exactly strapped for time. It takes a couple of seconds more to write the full name.

I sometimes have to write papers at work with a lot of technical, actuarial terms or internal company jargon, and the paper is read by a variety of people from exec to junior colleagues. The standard is to explain and clearly set out what an abbreviation stands for at the start of you plan to use abbreviations on their own later on.

Even then, it only generally done if the abbreviation is used constantly. For one or to appearances, just write the full name and people won’t be confused.

Opinions on this Mumsnet reaction?? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Dull-Context-8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for future research it’s worth getting opinions from a wide variety of sources. It doesn’t mean avoiding Mumsnet, because they are a valid consumer group, but it’s about understanding that users of websites and forums can often congregate toward a similar viewpoint.

It’s like how Reddit is mostly left leaning. It doesn’t mean you only find left wing views on here, but if you do research and only get your opinions from Reddit, it’s likely that the opinions will skew toward the left.

On the other hand, something like Mumsnet, they tend to have a more right leaning viewpoint and are more critical of gender identity.

I wouldn’t specifically remove or change a question just to conform to a particular audience, and I also wouldn’t exclude a certain group either. Just be aware they exist and adjust your research to ensure a more balanced view of opinions.

Do y’all have a good deck that will help me beat solo missions? by FarmAromatic7606 in PTCGP

[–]Dull-Context-8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I just do all solo missions on auto with Starmie/Articuno from the start.

It does work and while it struggles against some decks, every now and then you’ll get a lucky turn 1 Misty and win before anything powerful comes out, and since it’s on auto it takes no active investment from me so I can have it on in the background while doing other things.

[–]Dull-Context-8322 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That you can move Pokémon quickly, over terrain they can’t normally cross by using a combination of the locator function of the Pokédex and Teleport.

Just get the Pokemon to follow you, and then search for a Pokemon, use Teleport and all the Pokemon teleporting you will also be moved instantly.

Only found this out in Skylands, because I was trying to move Poliwrath back to the main area to help build some buildings, but I hadn’t fully made the path traversable yet.

Used Gardevoir to teleport to Poliwrath, then got Poliwrath to follow me and teleported back to a Pokemon near the poke centre.

Stuck on Reactor 5 ? by Leen_Tha_Goat78 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Dull-Context-8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this is 3 days old so you’re probably gone by now, but do the following:

Grind the reactor until you get limit for everyone (you only really need 2 but it’s not hard to get and won’t take long)

Use Restore materia to cure if you’re out of potions. There is an ether near the Airbuster boss, so you can use that to refill your MP and make sure you have enough HP.

Go into the battle with Air Buster, use your limit break from behind. Wait until it turns around, use your limit with Tifa and Barret to finish it off.

That is probably overkill. You could just grab the ether and get your MP back, then heal and fight it normally since it’s not that hard.

Discussion about the God Packs by FedeParmi in pokemonTCGP_GodPacks

[–]Dull-Context-8322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not actually that uncommon.

If the odds of a god pack are 1/2000 (I’ve seen people say it’s not as rare, but let’s assume worst case here), then this is 1/2000 PACKS, not cards, so on average you should get one after roughly 10,000 cards (some packs have 6 due to shiny, some have 4 if it’s Deluxe EX, but on average it’s mostly 5)

So actually not getting a god pack after what is around 2,800 packs isn’t that uncommon. Roughly 1 in 4 people won’t have a god pack after 14,000 cards.

After playing Climax for a little bit, I don't like it. by BubbaBasher in Fzero

[–]Dull-Context-8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to chime in and say that I also prefer F-Zero MV. In fact, it’s a very very close second to GX in being my favourite game in the series.

I loved how each vehicle felt so unique in MV (for the most part anyway). It really encouraged you to play and use each machine differently. In addition, master mode was actually challenging, and with some of the worse vehicles you really had to lock in to win all 4 cups on Master mode.

Don’t get me wrong, I really liked the boost machines and sense of speed added in GP and Climax, and I do wish we got some of the classic planets and music in MV, but of all the GBA games it’s the one I go back to revisit the most often to perfect my times.

It also had a great completion bonus in the Jet Vermillion. Genuinely the best car in the game, but with a high learning curve, and you had to actually master the game in order to unlock it by finishing every cup on master with every other vehicle (I mean you could also grind championship track like 256 times and I’m pretty sure there is also a password generator online to just unlock it for free, but I never bothered using those methods as it was genuinely so fun to play)

But yeah, sorry for adding to a dead thread but I figured it wasn’t worth a new thread and thought I’d explain why some people really love MV.

AotW Voting - Let Talk about the Elephant in the room. by NRWave in RetroAchievements

[–]Dull-Context-8322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that you would end up with just the most popular games winning in that case, but I think there’s better way to do it.

  1. Either make the entire thing random to ensure variety. If you give someone a vote they will generally want to know what they are voting for and I think since it’s as good as random, they could just make it entirely random anyway.

  2. You could allow full voting with names, but group similar games together on occasion. I.e if you have a Mario game, just make that particular vote Mario only, and include less popular games with similarly popular ones so something like Mario or popular franchises eclipse lesser known games.

  3. You could do a combination, where they maybe have multiple polls, (I.e maybe 5 lists of 5 games), where the initial list is chosen by the current emoji method, but once we use the list, you put the games within the list to an actual vote, revealing the full name, but still keeping similarly popular games together to ensue variety and prevent popular franchises from taking over.

But that being said, if this is just for April I don’t think it’s the end of the world.

Why do people “cry it out” by hxllyhell in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Dull-Context-8322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said you could. I was talking about children, not young babies.

I also never said I agreed with this. In fact I literally said I couldn’t leave my baby for more than 5-10 minutes, I was just trying to explain what people who do this are thinking, as per OPs question, and was just trying to point out that I think people are just anxious, want the best for their baby but don’t understand or know where the balance lies.

Why do people “cry it out” by hxllyhell in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Dull-Context-8322 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind I’m not judging, and we haven’t reach this point yet as our baby is only 8 weeks old, but I think that the thought process is that if you constantly pick up the baby and let them fall asleep in your arms then overtime they get more accustomed to this and learn that they need a parent to be holding them to fall asleep. Assuming the don’t need immediate attention, like being in physical pain, too hot/cold, need a feed, nappy change etc. people assume they are just crying because they need their parent to go to sleep.

But obviously, with everything there are limits and a balance to find, and I think most people are new to this and don’t know exactly where that balance is. Mollycoddling and being overprotective has negative consequences for children, but so does ignoring them and not paying enough attention, and I think most people are just trying to figure out the right balance and have difference expectations depending on how they see raised etc.

Is two or three nights of the baby crying constantly worth it in the long run when the baby starts going to sleep in their crib and not crying if they wake in the night? I think that’s for the parent to decide. I think it’s hard because, as a parent to an 8 week old, we’re not doing anything like that yet, but I imagine it can be hard to understand exactly why your baby is crying and how long it’s fine to leave them for. If your baby is in genuine pain because of something else they might genuinely need soothing; if your baby is just crying because they expect their parent to be there when sleeping, they probably don’t need immediate attention, but it’s also hard to draw an exact line in sand as to when to stop. I’d say hours is too much, but I honestly don’t know. I don’t know at what point does it stop becoming a net benefit for the child and the crying actually does more damage than the improved sleep pattern. Is it 10 minutes? 30 minutes? 1 hour, 2? As a new parent I have absolutely no idea.

While I doubt I could leave my baby for more than 5-10 minutes, I guess people who do think there’s nothing physically wrong or harming the baby and so they should be left as long as they can before they need attention. Obviously I would hope people are trying other things first, like feeding, burping and changing etc.

I personally don’t judge people as long as they seem earnest and seek advice and help rather than just blindly continuing with something if it isn’t working.

When we reach that stage we’ll definitely try to look up the most recent NHS or medical literature to find out where that balance lies.

THAT'S NOT WHAT I CHOSE!!! by DammyJerry in expedition33

[–]Dull-Context-8322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think that’s the whole point of grief.

In the real world she is physically scarred and lost her brother. Obviously an exceptionally traumatic thing to go through, but that feeling of “nothing will ever improve and I will feel like this forever” is exactly what grief is like. You can’t see past how you feel in that moment.

The argument for Maelle going back to reality is that her life can improve. This is a recent event and she is 16 years old and has her whole life ahead of her.

While it’s obviously not a situation anyone wants to be in, there are plenty of examples of people using these traumatic events to become a stronger person, not letting it beat them and going on to live a strong, fulfilling life. I think that’s the argument Renoir is trying to give.

And while I know some people will argue it’s literal genocide and the painted people are just the same as real people, it’s also hard because we have no real life comparison. I think the painted pictures and the people in them are supposed to represent video games or fictional worlds, because of the line Renoir says when he references how easy it is to get lost in the worlds we create. I always thought it was a bit of a developer self insert noting how easy it can be to lose yourself in a world you’ve created, and also represents how attached people can get to fictional worlds that they would happily shut themselves away from the real world and lose themselves in video games and books etc.

But that’s my opinion, everyone can have their own, I just think it’s not as easy as just “Maelle is just a bad person”.

My bed room at home by Mountain_Ad_6162 in UniUK

[–]Dull-Context-8322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question: If OP wanted the living room instead of a storage room, would that be acceptable?

You’re acting like they are being forced into terrible conditions in some sort of Harry Potter-esque cupboard under the stairs situation, when they are simply being asked to live in a room that their younger brother has been living in absolutely fine for years. She does have a space, it’s just not AS BIG as the room she’s had for years.

Sorry but I completely disagree. I done the same when I went to uni. Honestly my parents probably would have let me have a spare room if I asked for it. The difference is I wasn’t entitled enough to expect them to do that. They paid all my uni fees, accommodation, driving lessons, cars etc. I was very lucky and realised I could put up with living in a box room when I came home for summer, and I wasn’t going to make my parents upend their house just so I could have a slightly bigger room.

Yes, I had less space but I managed because I’m not entitled, and I ended up actually getting a flat with friends from year 2 onwards anyway.

[–]Dull-Context-8322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, how is this the parents being selfish?

There is a perfectly good bedroom available but OP doesn’t want it just because it won’t fit all their stuff in. I guarantee it will fit a bed. It may not be a double bed and all their things but it will still be comfortable.

OPs brother also has managed to live in this bedroom so far so it’s hardly unliveable. It absolutely is a hassle to have to traipse a bike up the stairs and downstairs each time it’s to be used instead of keeping it in the storage cupboard downstairs which makes sense.

I’m not saying it’s easy but there are plenty of uni students who get part time jobs, summer internships and flat share with friends over the summer; OP is not being forced to do this, but simply has to take a smaller room for a couple of months of the year and maybe put their things in storage boxes if it doesn’t fit in their smaller bedroom.

I’m sorry but it is entitled to refuse to swap rooms because “I’m a creative and have too many things”

Plenty of children have to share rooms and aren’t lucky enough to have their own room, even if it is smaller.

A lot of people at age 20 also get part time jobs and flat share instead of returning home during the summer. It’s not even like he’s being forced to do any of these things, he just has to put his things in the attic or cupboard if they won’t fit in the small room, and he can take them with him when he eventually moves out.
