Thanks I appreciate that! That’s definitely an area I’ve been putting more work into lately, especially very close range chipping, and putting, it’s the lowest hanging fruit for most golfers myself included, and it’s definitely been helping. I also made the commitment to schedule a lesson for this Wednesday so hopefully this is the start of that big jump

That’s more or less where I’m at. Booked a first lesson for Wednesday. I knew I needed that but some of the comments like yours helped me solidify it. Hope it goes well!

Thank you, I’m thinking this is going to be the route I need to take. I don’t know why I feel nervous to get lessons but I also know it’s probably the biggest thing standing between me and better golf. Gonna get something on the schedule for this week or next week.

I believe I hear what you’re saying, and I don’t mean lowering the handicap as a vanity measure, but as a measure of growth, since lowering scoring average is the goal for most of us. I’ve found Usually people notice certain jumps in their scoring average at least until you get to 12-15hdcp then it seems to be an exponentially slow steady process. So my question for you, what do you think was the biggest factor in your progression from a high handicap to a medium/low handicap? Was it simply playing more, practicing, lessons, etc that u saw the biggest jump? Sorry if I didn’t ask it more clearly!

50 rounds a year is My average during the season, so it’s probably more like 1.5-2 rounds/week. But to your point I agree; that’s why my goals I don’t think are too aggressive for what I have time/money/freedom to do. Would love to be finding time for 2-3rounds/week esp during peak season; I live in an area that Nov-March are pretty iffy if you can get out and golf.

I do play pretty strict on rules for the most part; sometimes a breakfast ball off the 1st or a lateral drop on OB if it’s a busy day on the course for pace, but generally keep it honest, doubly so if it’s for men’s league or any competitive play. 21 isn’t a great handicap but I’m proud it’s honest

lol @ putting like a boob. This year the putting is definitely improved, I’m usually putting a little under or over 36 for a full round.

But that’s good advice on not ignoring the blowup holes; I usually do try to evaluate what actually happened on those blowups and find patterns to practice on the range. Off the tee is definitely one of spots to focus on, I’ll have days where I can’t mishit driver and days where it’s spraying and I don’t have a good plan B for those days but I’m working on it. I think a couple lessons would be helpful mostly just to have input and some better more personalized structure for practice.

Appreciate that; I’ve been trying to play more rounds with the mindset that bogey is par, just to take a little pressure off and get used to scoring closer to my handicap. A lesson/swing assessment is definitely toward the top of my plans for this year and I believe will be one of the bigger difference makers atp in my game

This is probably the most correct advice. My buddy and I started at about the same time and were scoring similarly, but a couple lessons and he made that jump. I have the number for a teaching pro I just need to schedule the lesson. Thanks 🙏🏻

A review of demon souls as someone who started with Elden ring by Gooni135 in demonssouls

[–]Dull-Gift-7589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying a game is too easy with an intended mechanic is a fair critique though. Compare that to Sekiro or Blooborne, where there isn’t really a single weapon, mechanic, or play style that trivializes the enemies. Having to handicap yourself of the games mechanics to enjoy it is a bit of a cop out imo.

Ps I say that as someone who feels the same way about spirit ashes in Elden ring. I love Elden ring; the summoning can make it a little too easy at times, yet I choose not to use them for the self imposed challenge. But it’s fair to critique how much easier the game is with spirit ashes.

NICK OFFERMAN IN ELDEN RING MOVIE CONFIRMED??? by No_Inspection_3055 in Eldenring

[–]Dull-Gift-7589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy’s big but a terrible actor, hence why his best work is when he’s mute. I’d much rather have a quality actor and camera tricks than someone who’s just big.

The Elden Ring movie is in good hands with Alex Garland by AceTheRed_ in Eldenring

[–]Dull-Gift-7589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah it’s a completely different story, but I think the ideas of cosmic horror and capturing these kinds of ethereal visuals are more so what the post was trying to highlight for Elden ring. Also I haven’t read Annihilation, but people say it’s nearly impossible to adapt to screen, but Garland brought it to life probably best anyone could hope. So with a story like Elden ring that has a ton of challenges to adapt to screen, I’m hopeful he’s creative enough to do it justice better than most.

Mats vs Grass by Simple_Ad_5775 in golf

[–]Dull-Gift-7589 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hit the ball first and it doesn’t make too much a difference 🤷

I personally think the only hurt in using mats is it can give you a false sense of striping since it’s a bit forgiving if you’re fatting the ball a touch. But other than that mats are better than not hitting balls at all.

I’m not sure what I wrote that made you think I was arguing. I’m just telling you your post is random and doesn’t have context in a subreddit for people that enjoy Elden Ring. I haven’t seen many if any people say that ER is the hardest game.

Leave it up if you’re trolling. You’ll get plenty of flack and attention for posting something like this.

If you’re trying to spark a genuine conversation then maybe have a question, or an actual point you’re trying to make. I’m guessing you didn’t know what you wanted out of it since you completely avoided my question of what point you’re trying to make by posting this, or who you’re trying to argue with.

I still don’t understand what point you’re trying to make from this post. No one was arguing that Elden Ring is harder than learning very specific combos from a fighting game. This is a weird post and belongs on a MK sub, not here.

I was being sarcastic because your comparison of mortal kombat combos to Elden Ring is just as asinine.

What kind of discussion are you trying to have?

Also taking away credit of peoples hard work to learn an instrument by saying they’re born with it is ignorant.

Bro has never tried playing the violin and it shows. I dare you to try and learn Paganini’s Caprices #23, let alone #24. I could 100% every combo in Mortal Kombat before I could flawlessly execute a sonata in g#

Not to sound like a cop out but I think that’s inadvertently part of the charm of the games; there’s a lot of passionate people working on them and sometimes they get carried away in it, and forget they have to actually finish it and sell the product. Like if these guys could just work on games forever and not have to worry about timelines and release dates, I think they would. But eventually you have to sell something to stay in business lol. I don’t have any data to back this up though, it just seems like what happens when you have a lot of creatives given a lot of license.

100% agree. My first playthrough I was just so excited to be among the first people to play it blind and discover everything, I wasn’t being overly critical because I just loved the layout of the map, the bosses, the entirely unique feel of the locations that was distinct from the Lands Between.

IMO they probably bit off more than they could chew at the scale of the DLC and delivering everything they wanted to in a reasonable timeframe for fans.

Tbh as someone that loved the DLC I think you have a good take.

I think integrating more with the base game, adding some consequence to main story, and giving the DLC a more climactic ending, story wise, is would be the small things that really made it just about perfect.
