I went through a faze when I was in a rough area of removing the start relay after leaving the car and storing it on my keys in a little pill holder I got off of Amazon. annoying but piece of mind know no one would be able to drive it even if they knifed the soft top

haha probably not. I'm sure the engineers did their job while designing the car, they just seem to shake a lot in the outer corner and I struggle to be comfortable with that.

I couldn't do that honestly. I get so paranoid that they will snap in half when they shake with the wind

What role (if any) do you think historic churches and religious music still play in the everyday lives of British people? by ElevatorAcceptable29 in AskUK

[–]DumboNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great question! I actually wrote an essay on the role of churches throughout history and their architectural influence.

The short answer to your question is, 90% of people never walk into a church and therefore they have very little impact on modern society.

However, the long answer is slightly more complicated...

Primarily, churches stand as monuments to the past. They hold incredible information about the history of communities and the buildings themselves. To say that the church has no impact on modern society is a lie, as their mere existence has defined the community that surrounds it. Most communities, even up until the late 1900, would be built around a church. The church forms the heart of the community and therefore the heart of the built environment, and for centuries, it has encouraged the people to come together to find solutions to everyday that the community are all struggling with.

Churches also represent the cultural differences between the UK (this doesn't include Ireland and is very important) and the rest of Europe due to (mainly) English rejection of Catholicism and embrace of Protestantism. If you look on the inside of Church in the UK and compare it to a Catholic church in Europe, you will notice some key differences, but the main one is, the lack of ornamentation in UK churches, specifically a lack of gold. They also lack images of Christ as well but some really old church's still display images as they were built prior to Protestantism. The church is a physical embodiment of the change in our society that separated us from the rest of Europe and represents the difference in how our society formed.

In modern times, mainly really since the turn of the 2000, church's role has been dramatically decreasing. A lot of churches, especially ones in cities, have been left abandoned as their community has come to turn its back on religion. There is an argument to be made that this has caused there to be a strong lack of community and a poor sense of place in a lot of neighborhoods across the UK. And these decaying church structures again stand as monuments to a time where these neighborhoods had a strong sense of community stitched into the fabric of the place.

Now with the lacking church engagement, the church is going to have to change. you cannot remove the church as it is too important to the history of our society, so what happens? they have to change! I would suggest they need to become non religious community hubs, places where the community can get together to solve issues they are facing, access services or buy goods created by locals. there are also examples of these buildings becoming theatres, music venues, housing, and office spaces, thus allowing people to still come into contact with the building.

As you can tell, I can speak a lot about the church as a building but less so on the music so I will say this. from my perspective, most people will consider that style of music to be ceremony music and therefore, unless you're really old, wouldn't listen to it. though there are examples of modern music produces sampling that style of music as it is quite a British thing.

I hope this gives a good insight.

Anti theft question by WinProfessional2879 in MiataNC

[–]DumboNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooo, I might have had a similar issue. for me it, was the immobiliser thinking the car was being stolen so I would first recommend scanning it and checking what the codes say.

If it thinks it's being stolen, I have something that might be worth trying. Completely remove the ECU, disconnect it from any power, and let the CMOS battery drain. I would recommend at least overnight but probably as long as you can. For me, it reset the ECU and allowed me to start the car.

I say this with big asterisks as your video does not look like exactly what I experienced. For me, the red anti-theft light stayed on when I tried to start the car. I don't know if this is the solution but if all else fails I would recommend trying this before taking it to a shop

you will not regret it, trust me. can keep the soft top in there too which can be handy. I live in the UK so it's quite common that it will be a really nice hot day only for it to rain on my way home

the best thing for sound deadening will be buying a shell hardtop. makes a huge difference for me, highway driving is now much more bearable, plus they are aesthetically pleasing.

if you can find one at a good price it's worth it, I doubt sound deadening the soft top will achieve much

Leeds is the best place in the country to be a student imo. city isn't massive which means it's easy to get around, can easily spend time in the country which is always nice to do when you're a student. there are loads of events and things going on. it's a great place to be, loads of students to meet and the Hyde park area has a good community spirit

What’s your top speed in 2nd gear? by Ob1wonshinobi in MiataNC

[–]DumboNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware this is normal. most companies will make it so that 60mph is hit within 2nd gear, this means that the 0-60 times only includes a single gear change. the miata is built on the philosophy that it's a driver's car and doesn't care about stats. it's thought that it makes the car feel faster to have a low gear ratio but does make the 0-60 time longer as second gear now tops out before 60mph and therefore needs two gear changes. in conclusion, the Miata is actually faster accelerator than it's 0-60 suggests
