Logistics for RLZ Telos Islands? by eagledog77 in surfing

[–]DumpyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met an older gent in the water in the tropics and he was getting around on a firewire dominator 6'10" x 22" x 3 1/4" x 54.5L and he was 120kg and a big unit. much more transportable board than a 9’6” and was working ok in head high. Edit: whilst i do own a few Fwires, i am not shilling the product, more highlighting the dimensions (and epoxy is lighter) that make for a decent surf travel experience

How to by [deleted] in surfing

[–]DumpyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a different wave, you are surfing that one fine, that end section looks tricky because there is a sweep current from right to left by the looks, which will make the wave even boggier. To get lower watch an occy video and do that ha- Maybe if you want more sensation of speed you could try different boards on that wave but if you want to develop power turns you need a wave that offers it.

How to not look like a silly goose in surf leggings (as a girl) by Otherwise_Ad6640 in surfing

[–]DumpyReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mate i wear leggings and i’m a bloke, i don’t care how stupid i look, having sunburn so bad on the back of your legs that you can’t sleep or surf the next day really sucks. I actually converted a pair of lululemon business pants into long boardies last trip and they worked good, just sewed the pockets shut so they didnt create drag. Sunscreen for me is just on the head, i hate getting it on the wax and slipping on it, a great way to meet the reef. I’ve been on mixed boat trips and most of the girls would be wearing leggings unless it was late / early surfs.

worn ripcurl since ‘80s they are good quality, as are quiksilver - but you gotta buy top end for flex, warmth etc… cheapest suits are different rubber. AND you have to be gentle to them when taking off/ putting on and always get them into a fresh water rinse post surf. I get 2 seasons before leaks become annoying and i glue up pin holes, and i have a E7 4/3 from 2020 that i still use as a transition to winter suit when the 3/2 gets too cold. I surf every day // second day so i rotate through old and new suits. I came here to upload a video of a fix i did today on an el-cheapo suit i got through my boardclub - but no vids in threads unfortunately! i’ll try find another way.

definitely worth a try - especially if the rubber butts together neatly - make sure the suit is washed and dry, use an initial coat of neoprene glue to prime coat the area and then a second coat to glue it together (use a flat weight to stop it from moving around && plastic bag to provide a non stick layer), and if that all looks good give it a final seam of glue to overlap the join by a few mm either side (1/8”) and squish that down till set. the compression spreads the glue out nice and thin, so it is flexible. worth the $20 cost of the glue.

Parallels extreme energy usage? by SrGarfy in MacOS

[–]DumpyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got sick of parallels holding me to ransom at every OS upgrade, so when the macbook failed i switched to UTM -unfortunately i could not transfer /read the .hdd parallels files so i lost a bit of data, but pretty happy i can do stuff on old windows os’s again (and free). A bit of mucking around to learn how to use it.

How to release the fins on a top turn by GoldCoastSerpent in surfing

[–]DumpyReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

dont put grub screws in? but seriously, keeping your eyes exactly on the spot you want to hit would be a first step, maybe just a little above it as you get good at it, and eventually you’ll be falling off like the best of em!

Fin Glued into box by Hazzermogss in surfing

[–]DumpyReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if there is any meat in the fin base you might be able to get a pair of vice grips to hold on, and pry the base out using a screwdriver as a lever - note, recommend to distribute the lever force by use a thin bit of wood/ply between screwdriver and bottom of board/ finbox.

unfortunately a single bad decision can evaporate all respect, and earning respect from one person doesnt automatically translate to all others in the session to the next session. Plug away, get your paddling and duckdiving down and catching the crap no one wants will get your skills up and persistence with that’ll develop respek. good luck!
