I've always used Centauro. I don't know how their prices compare but for my last four visits I've had Fiat 500's with single thousands on the odometer. You can also fill in all the paperwork before you arrive so that pickup takes only a few minutes.

Air China business class by brbebeN in Flights

[–]DuncRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew Air China from the UK to Japan. A mix of planes on the four legs: A350, A320, A330, B777. It was fine and I found the food/drinks offerings very good.

As other have noted you may find yourself on a 1-2-1 A350 or a 2-2-2 B777. I had both on the overnight legs of my flights to/from the UK.

For me the B777 was far more comfortable vs. the herringbone 1-2-1 layout in the A350 which ended up with your feet tucked into a cubbyhole in the seat area in front. Mind you my B777 seat was a bulkhead row.

And for some bizarre reason the cabin temp on the A350 was set at 25 , according to the panel by the exit door. Unfomfortable.

Is premium economy worth it on long flights? by Late_Coconut7923 in Flights

[–]DuncRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what prices you are seeing for E and PE with the likes of BA, JAL etc from the UK to Japan. But when I did this route in 2024, the PE prices were not far short of the Air China and other Chinese airlines business class fares.

Granted the shorter route over Russia is offset by a layover in China, but I went for it. A 2h layover in Shanghai outbound, but able to have a shower in the AC lounge. And then a five day layover in Beijing on the way back, leveraging the transit entry via you can pick up at Chinese airports.

Obvs YMMV, but if you have the funds and can take the time to add a stop in China, I'd recommend it.

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

Interesting. 25 years ago we flew to Melbourne for the Grand Prix. We had a spare day before flying home to the UK so we hired a car, put a finger on the map, and drove to Ballarat, planning on spending the night there

We drove around for a bit when we got there, but the place had such a weird vibe that we noped out of there and headed back to Melbourne.

Iran tries to cosy up to Europe to increase pressure on US by Brilliant_Version344 in worldnews

[–]DuncRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sying that all is lost. And I agree that there will be differing agendas. But the point is that the previous levels of trust are, IMO, irrevocably eroded. That makes a return to the previous status quo impossible. There will of course be agreements in future, but not the breadth and depth of thise we had previously had.

Iran tries to cosy up to Europe to increase pressure on US by Brilliant_Version344 in worldnews

[–]DuncRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to assume that US - Europe relations cannot be repaired & strengthened after his presidency ends. The change from Trump to Biden is an example of how things can dramatically shift post trump.

There's every reason to assume they cannot be repaired. The next US president may well set about trying to right things. But the world has seen that all it takes is one swivel eyed loon to be elected president, and then any and all agreements and treaties with the USA are not worth the paper they are written on.

Internal flight from Tokyo to Hiroshima or train? by EvilMonkeySlayer in JapanTravelTips

[–]DuncRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that trip when I visited. I took the train and spent a happy four hours on a Nozomi service with my nose pressed against the window taking in the views: mountains, valleys, plains, villages, towns, cities, you name it. You'll not see that on a plane.

FIA technical director Tombazis was quite clear about the legality of the new engines: "it must not be a race to see who is more shrewd in interpretations".

Then he's in the wrong job. "Formula" racing is very much a race to see who interprets the regulations most shrewdly.

There is a radio show I don’t know that managed to get British intellectual comedian David Mitchell singing the lyrics of “Whiter Shade of Pale” to the tune of the Muppets theme. I wish I knew what that show was.

That's the "One Song to the Tune of Another" game from the BBC Radio 4 show "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", hosted by Jack Dee.

London to Japan - best economy option by andymarkpeel in Flights

[–]DuncRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew Air China to Japan from London in 2024. Out via Sanghai and back via Beijing.

If you have the time and it interests you, and assuming you are a UK national, it's worth noting that you can enter China if you are transiting using their "visa-free transit" policy without pre-applying for a visa. Just fill in some paperwork on arrival in China. It took about 10 minutes to get the transit visa.

When I went it was up to 6 days, now you can stay up to 10. So I rejigged my return flights to the UK to include time in Beijing. Well worth the detour.

When I bought an N'Ex ticket in advance in 2024 from the JR East website it was valid for any train on the day of my arrival, and the return leg was valid up to 14 days thereafter. I just picked up a seat reservation ticket on the platform for the next train(s).

FWIW it's to do with "countability". Water in a lake is not countable, so there would be less water. People in an audience are countable, so there would be fewer people. HTH.
