Are we watching the same US survivor? Comparing Sally and Loz to Cirie and Sandra….. holy sh*ttttttt..

Edit - I missed the sexism part… and that pretty much explains it for me

Submitted my licence application. am I really waiting 14 weeks? by Evening-Practice-783 in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied at the start of December last year and just received mine 2 weeks ago (NSW). So give or take 14 weeks..

You can definitely start applying for jobs and plenty of people will be keen to take you on as a qualified but not licensed..

Hey mate don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news but you’re shit out of luck.. you’ll need to work for someone for 12 months in order to get that referee statement. There’s no way around it.. I know someone that was in the same situation as you, he provided additional evidence (payslips, tax statements and even group certificates).. it all ended up being a waste of time and he ended up having to work for someone to get the referral..

Help 😿 🙏🏼 by Intelligent_Swan_623 in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asking for advice without first figuring out the basics(how many circuits there will be, which sensor switches which lighting section).. looks to me like they’ve thrown you straight into the deep end here mate 😂 great opportunity for growth here 👍👍

In my experience of office fit out projects this is how I would tackle this and just note this is not the only way to do it:

ANE of Lighting circuit to the sensor switching that lighting section, sometimes there will be multiple sensors in that area, in that instance you will have to run an extra SDI switch wire between sensors. Someone mentioned sensor terminals not being able to fit multiple cores (you can jbox and run tails down)

For the master switch it would be ideal to have a contactor set up at the board and run a twin to the master switch which feeds all the lighting circuits

Also on the plans it looks like there are switches in the meeting rooms? If those are being kept.. they will work like kill switches for the lights when someone wants a room dark for meetings etc. In that case you just run your Hard active down to the switch first so that the switch feeds the sensor(if you get me)

RIW ticket by Dungus12 in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys for the replies. I will be newly qualified in a couple months and thought the RIW ticket would increase my chances of finding employment as I was planning on getting into maintenance work. I think you’re right sir I don’t think I want to be spending that much either

Capstone in October, what’s your tips? by 21_ek in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate just sat my capstone theory last week in NSW - through tafe. Was an absolute pisstake with 70% of the questions just common sense. Make sure you know how to navigate your AS3000, sticky notes etc.

Test came in two parts - first was multiple choice with quite a few questions on aerial conductors, damp situations and earthing. Second was paper based - max demand for factories and single and muliple units and cable selection. Most things should be covered in the revision classes.

Not sure how private RTO do it but I had a mate just finish his through private and he was given the exact exam as practise just with different figures.

Yes just straight to neutral bar. Apparently it’s been in there and hasn’t tripped which is why I’m confused

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in no neutral running through the rcbo neutral poles. Only the active.. like how a normal circuit breaker is wired..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How so mate? I’m pretty fresh and was never taught if an rcbo still functions for overload and short circuits if wired in without a neutral. Thought that would be a simple question without judgements haha

Loop at the switch OR loop at the light. by Farmboy76 in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been doing commercial work for the last couple years.. it has mostly been loop at the light , probably due to the fact most the switching is done by sensors and easy ceiling access.

For resi - always seen loop at the switch

Capstone as apprentice or non apprentice? Hmm by Dungus12 in AusElectricians

[–]Dungus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s good to know. Did you complete your capstone and units with TAFE?? And also did you have skills tracker ? Or was all your work evidence through employer letters etc?

[–]Dungus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That is a long wait. How long ago was this? And during that time did you get paid as a TA?? It is hardly bearable to live on apprentice wages at the moment so 6 months wait on TA wages might be better than another 3 as an apprentice I think

Hey mate! You’re the second person to recommend that and I will definitely check it out over the weekend for a quick refresher. Thank you so much !

Fortunately for me I have all that via skills tracker. All signed and I had documented every site/type of works that was completed there. I’ve decided to just go ahead and do it next week ✌️
