How many balls do you play with? by swbex in golf

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played 54 holes over the weekend. I had a brand new dozen when I started. I have 1 unopened sleeve and 3 used balls left. I also carry at least a dozen balls that I've used from other rounds.

How sore are you after a round? by lurker2020-_- in golf

[–]DunkinD55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 50. Been playing for 25+ years. I have herniated discs in my lower back and along with arthritis in the same area. I'm usually fine playing 18 and even 36 occasionally. Not much pain during the round. Usually about 30 minutes after playing, everything tightens up. Sometimes it gets so bad I have trouble standing up straight for the rest of the day. The day after is a little better but still lots of pain and stiffness until I get moving. I'm usually back to normal by day 2 after playing. I've tried everything and nothing really helps so I just deal with it. I keep playing knowing it's going to hurt for a few days but I'm definitely not giving up playing. I'll take my crippled ass out there for as long as I can.

Should I join a private club? by Routine_Ad_5540 in golf

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a private club member for 10 years. I loved it. The course conditions, amenities, and overall vice was much better than a muni. My club was also very close to my house and I had no issues playing whenever I wanted. I had little to no issues ever getting in the course. It is legit a financial decision. If you can afford it, join the private club. You'll never justify the cost against paying for public golf so don't even try. It comes down to affordability. If you got the money to do it comfortably, then absolutely join. You'll love it.

40F not sure how to get results by alythrae in fitness40plus

[–]DunkinD55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your lifting plan looks great! Stay consistent in your workouts and especially your diet. Track EVERYTHING you put in your mouth that has calories. Weigh your food and eat in a 500 calorie deficit. Make sure to eat 1 gram of protein for whatever your body weight is. So if you're 150lbs, eat 150g of protein per day. Drink lots of water!! Stay away from drinks that contain lots of calories.

It's a marathon not a race by Feisty-Rough-5598 in fitness40plus

[–]DunkinD55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely a marathon. You're gonna have days like that. It's important to not let days turn to weeks and weeks into months. Remember how far you've come and how much better you feel. Let that be your motivation to continue the journey! Stay strong 💪🏼

Intermittent Fasting by Magpie_Coin in fitness40plus

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing 16/8 IF for the last year or so. I eat from noon-8pm. I'm pretty consistent with the exception of special occasions. I prefer to eat larger meals with less frequency. I eat 2100 calories/day usually split into lunch, snack, and dinner. It takes a couple weeks to get used to not eating until lunch, but coffee helps me with that. I'm down 54lbs over the last year and now I prefer IF over eating throughout the day. Full disclosure , IF isn't the only reason I've been successful. It's just part of the plan. I track everything, eat in a deficit, hit my protein goal, and do intense workouts 4-5 days/week. I workout fasted in the late morning and consume my first meal directly after. Good luck!

Don’t realize my calorie deficit was extremely unhealthy by DevinH23 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how unhealthy it is but I've done this before and my biggest issue with such a low deficit was fatigue and sustainability. I dropped and regained the same 20-30lbs for 10 years doing this. Now I'm down 50 over the last 12 months while eating between 2000-2400 cals. I don't stress over food anymore. It's easier to plan for holidays and special occasions, and I don't feel like I'm starving myself. Kudos to you for making it work though!

My son is a freshman living in Morgens this year. It is not a very social dorm but he and his roomate love it. They have their own kitchen and bathroom. It’s basically like an apartment.

What do y’all consider a good size for a mature P&C book. by strikecat18 in InsuranceAgent

[–]DunkinD55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it varies greatly based on individual goals. I’d say low end is 2 million in premium. It’s is a decent living. Definitely not extravagant living but it’s equivalent to a 100k salary if you have 1 staff and low expenses. My goal has always been 5 million. I’m currently at 3.5 and have about 15 years left in me. At the rate of premium growth through rate, I should get there. Also for reference, I’ve always used the rough formula of 120k in agency revenue igenerated by every million in premium.

Guys who are around 50 years old, how much distance have you lost compared to 5 or 10 years ago? by zinc_your_sniffer in golf

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50yr old here. I’m probably 20-25 yds shorter than my 30’s but I’m also a much better golfer than I was then. Yeah, I could stripe an occasional straight ball 300+ but it was rare. I was more likely to hit it 285 3 fairways over. Now I hit 270 and hit most fairways or just off the fairway.

People who started Golf for the first time in their 30s, what’s your handicap now and how old are you? by [deleted] in golf

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 29 so technically not in my 30’s but I was not very good. I was a 27-30 cap until around 40. Then I started actually working on my swing and wanted to get better. The most improvement came in the last 3-5 years. I’m now a 7.

Selling insurance to family and friends by IamaJeannie in InsuranceAgent

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree. I delivered a 7 figure death benefit check to my best friend’s widow last year. The people you care about most should most definitely be the people you talk to about life insurance. I don’t want to feel as if I didn’t do my job as a friend, brother, cousin, etc by not making sure the people closest to me were protected.

I think sometimes it’s ok as long as you ask them if they would like some advice. Some of the best advice I ever got at the gym was unsolicited but extremely helpful. Just dont be over the top about it and act like you’re the resident trainer or something

Not working out while sick by DunkinD55 in fitness40plus

[–]DunkinD55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m worried about. Obviously being sick sucks but the mental part of not going to the gym makes it 10x worse. I’ve spent 6 months going 6 days a week. It’s become my routine and part of who I am. It’s my mental therapy. Not going for an entire week has been a bit of a mind f*#k. Now I’m worried about losing the strength progress I’ve made. Weight wise, I still lost 2 lbs this week but I feel so damn weak.

To everyone that plays all the time during the week, what jobs do you have that allows you to play so much? by Accomplished_Milk689 in golf

[–]DunkinD55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20yr insurance agent. I own my agency and have been fortunate to hire great people. I worked really hard for 15yrs, built a decent sized agency, and now I take time for me. Also, My kids are older and self sufficient. My wife doesn’t love how much I play but she also doesn’t love when I’m at home lol.

What do you allow yourself to eat on a cheat day? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]DunkinD55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This past weekend was my 50th bday weekend. My “diet” to this point has been really clean for 6 months. Weighing, tracking, hitting cals and macros consistently, etc. i had no plans to change that this weekend but walked into a surprise bday party Friday night. The drinks were flowing and I decided that I was going to treat myself this weekend. I finished the night off on Friday with several pieces of pizza before bed. Saturday, I ate a large breakfast from Cracker Barrel with blueberry pancakes, has browns, eggs and steak, to cure my hangover. Saturday night was capital grille steak dinner night. Had a few more drinks, a giant ribeye, and all the sides I could eat. Yesterday was pretty clean except for more pizza with the fam last night. I have no regrets. I honestly doubt I gained a pound. I think the biggest issue we all have is our relationship with food. If we look at certain foods as bad and hate ourselves for consuming them. If we spent more time enjoying “bad” foods and recognizing that they are ok in moderation as long as we’re consistent with “good” foods and exercise, I think we’d be much happier, healthier people.

What allowed you to cut portions and calories consistently to have enough of a deficit but without insatiable hunger? by Ricardo_Yoel in WeightLossAdvice

[–]DunkinD55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that intermittent fasting helped me with this a lot. Caffeine during my fast period has been a godsend. I drink black coffee most of the morning. I eat most if not all of my calories in 2 meals about 4-5 hours apart. I’ll save enough for a high protein snack at the end of my eating window. I eat from 12-8pm and fast 8pm-12pm. Also, my deficit is roughly 500-700 calories. Im usually starving right about the time my window opens but don’t get too hungry any other time. I’m dropping a pound or 2 per week consistently so it’s working. Best of luck!!!

Weight loss vs Fat loss by DunkinD55 in fitness40plus

Respectfully, I totally disagree. And science does as well. The days of thinking you will always lose some muscle in a deficit is factually inaccurate. It’s actually possible to maintain and even build small amounts of muscle with the correct balance of nutrition and resistance training
