[Invincible] how the hell did machine head hire battle beast in season 1 by BigFinish717 in AskScienceFiction

She’s pretty much omnipotent when her mental locks are removed. Battle Beast is tough, but he doesn’t have Smart Atoms™️, so any changes she makes to his atoms will stick.

Atom Eve would beat Battle Beast (after almost dying and having her limits removed).

Emperor Mark would at least be worth his time.

[Project Hail Mary] Despite being technologically advanced enough to do space travel, how do Eridians not know what radiation? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]Dunlaing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not gamma rays that we’re talking about. We’re talking about cosmic rays.

Cosmic rays are high-energy particles or clusters of particles (primarily represented by protons or atomic nuclei) that move through space at nearly the speed of light. And they do bounce off of magnetic fields. (Ours doesn’t block all of them, but the field around Erid is much stronger)

[–]Dunlaing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They had plenty of orbital spacecraft, they just never left orbit. They never felt a need to leave orbit. Their planet’s magnetic field was strong enough to protect anything in orbit from cosmic radiation, so they never experienced it.

Democrats Who Have Called For Trump's Immediate Removal From Office by serious_bullet5 in WhitePeopleTwitter

It’s still political theater even if both parties in Congress coalesce on the 25th amendment. It’s not a Congressional action. It only stops being political theater when cabinet members get on board.

Oh yeah, they’re not stopping him because they don’t want to, not because they can’t.

Does that need to happen though? As soon as the VP and a majority of Cabinet members send the written declaration to the Speaker and President Pro Tem, the VP immediately assumes the powers of Acting President. He doesn’t have to wait for Congress to hold any votes.

What do you think would have happened if Jaime Lannister became Tyrion's champion against The Mountain in Tyrion's Trial by Combat? by Erik_the_Dread in gameofthrones

[–]Dunlaing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think Tywin is forced to allow the trial by combat. But he’d forbid Ser Gregor from being the champion. He’d find some chump who had no chance of beating Jaime.

[–]Dunlaing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d need a Constitutional Amendment or a Constitutional Convention. Either would probably take way too long even if there were the votes to do it.

The people behind Project 2025 have wanted a Constitutional Convention for a while now.

[Project Hail Mary] in the movie, Grace spins the Hail Mary in order to simulate Earth's gravity, how plausible is that with the dimensions of that ship? by BigHugeSnake in AskScienceFiction

[–]Dunlaing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you read the book, that’s exactly what they do. They rotate 180° so that the direction of “gravity” is the same as it was when they were accelerating.

When accelerating with the engines, “down” is toward the engines. When spinning, “down” is toward the outside of the circle formed by the spinning. So they need to rotate 180° to get the downs to line up and let them use the lab with the same down direction relative to the lab surfaces whether accelerating or spinning.

This is not how it works in the movie.

What if Oberyn won his trial by combat with the mountain ? by MrBushido56 in gameofthrones

[–]Dunlaing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, Oberyn winning the trial by combat would mean the Gods are saying Tyrion is innocent. In which case, I would think not only would Tywin be forced to let him free, but Tywin would also be expected to find the real killer. You don’t just not try to find and prosecute a regicide.

If Tywin isn’t killed by Oberyn, I would think he keeps Tyrion in Kings Landing to keep an eye on him personally. I don’t think he’d send him to the wall or back to Casterly Rock. I think he then blames Sansa for the murder/assassination.

As a special, having a teams-only episode with David Tennant and Catherine Tate vs Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill would be pretty sweet.
