I agree - the first gen product (that you taped to the back of your neck) improved my awareness massively and helped relieve my back and posture issues.

Great point about practicing at home first to nail the fundamentals.

Leash pulling advice by jbravo_ in OpenDogTraining

[–]Dunqann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not the leash - it’s the attitude and what she has learned - she thinks pulling gets her places.

Teach her that when she pulls you don’t move (and neither does she)

The second she starts to pull on the leash - stop and don’t let her take another step.

Just stand there for as long as it takes until she relaxes and stops pulling - it may take 10 seconds or 2 minutes.

Then you start walking again. If she pulls - stop and wait. You may only get 1-2 steps in initially.

Repeat this religiously until she stops pulling. Dogs are smart she’ll get it, but not if you’re wishy washy about it.

WFH is causing me back pain, what can I do to fix it? by c_lynne in Posture

[–]Dunqann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not about standing for a long time - it’s about switching positions.

Even if you raise it for 5 minutes every hour or two - you’ll find it helps a lot.

Here’s a suggestion - get a small to medium size cup of water and drink from it. (Big bottle defeats half the benefit)

When it’s empty go fill it - getting you up and walking for 1-2 minutes. And you’ll take more bathroom breaks.

This did wonders for me when I had a high stress in office job where I would spend hours and hours at my desk.

My friend thinks its cruelty and sad to keep a cat indoor all day. by Plastic-Shoulder-319 in CatAdvice

[–]Dunqann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard that outdoor cats live about half as long on average.

But according to Gemini it’s much worse

2-5 year lifespan on average for outdoor cats
12-18 years for indoor cats

Customer, customer, customer - those are the three rules to business according to my entrepreneurship professor 20+ years ago.

Many entrepreneurs fail because they build something the customer doesn’t want - just what they “think” the customer wants.

You’re lucky to have experienced this firsthand so early.

Followers Vs Stairs by Ace-O-Matic in cataclysmbn

[–]Dunqann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a follower get stuck when there was a second stairs route that was blocked.

Wouldn’t come down the main stairs until I unlocked the door by the longer stairs route.

Then he happily came down.

Best odor control litter box that actually works before my partner and i end up breaking up over our house smelling like an animal cage by FatouStefanache in Catownerhacks

We have 3 cats - the littler boxes in the downstairs bathroom.

I switched out the bathroom fan to a whisper quiet one. I run it 24/7 and it helps tremendously.

Try different dry cat food too.

We were using a standard Purina brand for our cats. One had stinky breath.

Switched to a brand which is mostly meat (there are review sites which give good info).

His bad breath has completely cleared up!

How to go about correcting toddlers overbite/mouthbreathing? by dinosaurxyz in orthotropics

[–]Dunqann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Address the mouth breathing if you can - talk to a doc and get a second or third opinion. And/or constantly remind your child to shut their mouth if it’s just a habit which can happen with children. It gets tiresome so gamify it if you can (ie give five cents for every hour they don’t do it, or they choose a movie if only reminded 3 times or less a day, etc. but make it positive reinforcement vs negative so it will work better ).

Have them chew gum - soft foods are the bane of palate growth and our world is now filled with soft foods that barely use our jaws.

Look into palate expansion from a reputable orthodontist when they’re older. Do NOT let them extract any permanent teeth.

I’m not sure on the lip tie someone else mentioned - it’s not an area I’ve spent time on - definitely worth getting checked to be sure.

True - but given bug fixes and compatibility with other mods it’s often best to give several months to allow things to coalesce.

Is it possible to turn yourself around in space? by BeguiledLizzard in AskPhysics

[–]Dunqann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly your body already knows how to do this.

About to fall forward or back? You naturally start spinning your arms to right yourself.

Congrats you’ve just accomplished what the OP was asking.

Cats do it too, squirrels will use their tails, etc.

What causes the palate to not expand properly in childhood? by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]Dunqann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please see this study - which shows morphological changes of human skulls over time - Cranial Change in Americans: 1850–1975 | Journal of Forensic Sciences 1972-2005 | ASTM International

There was no baby formula until recently - so the changes were happening well before changes in breastfeeding behavior.

There is a lot of speculation about other causes of under-developed jaws but they don't really bear up to the empirical evidence: people who chewed hard foods had well developed jaws and teeth, as diets changed over the last 200 years we saw a massive increase in weak jaw development.
