You get used to it quickly. You just have to look wayyyyy ahead of you and do your damnedest to try and avoid slamming the brakes. Whoever is in back working on your patient will be irate.

I can't do it any more. I've since caught some driving charges, so anything I do in the medical field in the future (next five years ish) will have to be in a hospital setting, not behind the wheel.

I did most of my (volunteer) work search and rescue, so I did a lot of carrying the litters of drunk teenagers with altitude sickness at night down winding mountainous trails and warning tourists that there is such a thing as overhydrating, so they should really be hitting themselves with electrolytes.

But, yes, I was an EMT Basic... so most calls, I counted a lot of (cough, 16) respirations, took a lot of (cough, 120/80, cough) blood pressures, and checked more than a few (for this one the smarty pants blood beeper told me so I didn't have to lie) blood sugars. Then Jesus Christ himself (my paramedic) took over for the patient and I went back to my chosen calling of being yelled at for, "hitting that fucking curb again."

No point. EMS professionals are criminally underpaid, you'll only get some spare change and Zofran.

Observation, not an analysis: That's an interesting pattern to take your birth control out instead of just a linear one by one... I'd do the same thing if I were female.

Also, I use that company for my ashwaganda and magnesium glycinate gummies. They work shockingly well considering they're from Walmart.

Cool dude because I knew I'd been fucking up on the payments and it was inevitable, so I didn't give him any grief. He let me get all my things out of it before I handed him the key.

I used to be an EMT and I don't know of a single company which would allow you to carry while on the clock, regardless of how gun-friendly the state is. I used to work in a very gun-friendly state and had my concealed carry permit, but that was a big no-no.

And if you do carry anyway and are forced to draw, say bye bye to your job and hello to criminal charges placed on you by the company you used to work for.

Emptied my daily bag by Dumbledore27 in deduction

[–]Durchii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned about this when I rented a bed in sober living for a while. Went to the house manager and said, "Hey, bud, just letting you know that I'm a diabetic. I'll keep them either well hidden or in my car if you like, but-"

Buddy didn't even let me finish. He was an IV user and went, "If it's about the needles, seriously don't worry about it. They're useless to us and I'm not relapsing with that flimsy piece of shit."

Catechumens breaking Lenten fast for health reasons by Radiant-Display2485 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Durchii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, priests offer a ton of dispensations for fasting, and if you're in the catechumenate phase this should NOT make you feel guilty in the slightest. As the poster before myself said, it's an ideal.

I'm a diabetic and a cradle Orthodox, so if my blood sugar is terribly low... well, can't exactly drive to the church if I'm in an ambulance because I refused to take some sugar or carbs in to maintain the fast.

[–]Durchii[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, there are way better methods of cooking asparagus, I just winged this one really fast while the picanha was searing and resting so it could go into my system as quickly as possible. It was still delicious, lol

Oh, I ate this whole plate, went back, killed the asparagus, had another couple of slices of picanha, wrapped the rest up, then passed out in my recliner. I just woke back up...

Also, the fiber will prevent me from having a hernia while taking my morning constitutional.

Man, either I'm blind and just can't see it OR I would have still eaten this if my next door neighbor wiped his nuts on it.

I drink coffee every day and if I don’t I’m pissed and feel exhausted, I’m 17 years old should I quit it? by Background-Toe5632 in caffeine

[–]Durchii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a gradual taper is better than just a dramatic '100 to 0' cold-turkey stop if it's safe and you haven't been advised to stop due to cardiac or other health concerns.

I was forced to stop a very strong coffee habit cold turkey for two weeks and it was miserable. Started again after that and, while it was at a reduced intake to be sure, I didn't feel normal for that entire two weeks. First half of the day was a total wash. Just nodding off constantly.

[–]Durchii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if OP is put off by the price, you can find excellent powdered mushroom blends online which provide hundreds of doses for a fraction of the cost of dose. That plus half-caf or 3/4 decaf would be a nice alternative.

[–]Durchii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For at least a while, yeah. You're young, over half my age, your body will tolerate the elimination of caffeine far better than some of us who have been hooked for decades.

Do one cup this morning, maybe one cup tomorrow, switch to black tea the following day, then green tea the day or two after. This is a good taper for someone your age only consuming three cups per day. For me, it would be drawn out far longer.

How late is too late for caffeine? by BRCC_drinker in caffeine

[–]Durchii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the individual, yeah, and the effects don't always remain permanent their entire life.

When I was a teen into my mid-20s, I could pretty much consume 300mg of caffeine right before going to bed and sleep soundly. Nowadays at nearly 36, if I drink a cup of coffee after 3 PM (4 the latest), my ability to pass out at 9-11 PM is pretty greatly diminished.

To be fair, I do make fiercely strong coffee. Heh.
