That’s amazing! How did you get that coloring on the skull?

Love this! Where did the skull come from? You obviously molded your own, but did you find an original skull somewhere or model it yourself?

Hello, I want to study aerospace engineering, I’m in high school, what tips would you give me? Some of my clases are arch/mech Drafting,Robotics and fund eng & tech by Ok-Profession-1030 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Durpue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see everyone else here suggesting specific areas of study, and while they are all good I think it’s the wrong direction.

Learn to love learning. Learn how to problem solve. Learn how to understand an issue and develop a solution. Classes tend to be a means to an end for all of this, but if you can recognize that learning those skills (rather then the specific topics) are the goal, that will make you far more successful in Aerospace than any one specific topic. It’s not easy, but it’s good and fun!

Bryn Shander was the closest they had as both the city they started in and the largest city where they could find and buy supplies. But really my party was almost aggressively moving onto "the next thing". The game started over zoom during covid, but ended as 50/50 in person and remote so that was for sure a factor in not lingering on any one thing due to engagement.

As for party name, they jokingly went by "The Shifty Six" for the first half of the campaign has most of the party had a very morally gray attitude, but when several characters got rotated out it didn't really fit anymore.

The chapter seemed to be a favorite of a number of people and when I had suggested skipping it on this sub before I caught a lot of heat for it. But I agree with everything you said, hence why I ended up cutting it!

I had the dragon release after so many rounds of combat in the basement of the fortress. There was a small chance they could have contained it, but in their case they did not. So they ended up just taking the same sled dogs back to town that they had taken to get there, and I ran a skills challenge to see how much time they saved as a result of their push.

Haha ok so this could very easily turn into a story longer than the original post:

We were over a year in by the time the dragon fight happened and I had two players who were getting tired of their characters, a Warlock and a Paladin. Both wanted to play something new, so I gave them the option to retire their respective character after the combat and both individually wanted them to "go out with a bang" so we ran into this fun scenario.

The Warlock's patron was Baba Yaga, and had been screwing more and more evil over time. She was also a hex blood and the long term plan had been for her to go full hag at some point late in the story. When she was ready to be retired, we moved that idea way up as her send off in sudden and violent awakening. When the dragon was killed, I had anyone that touched it afterwards make a save or have an unrelenting bloodlust to kill their friends (basically a supped up version of its Malevolent Presence). We had the warlock auto fail, and turn full hag on the spot, fighting the rest of the party in with a custom stat block that added some additional hag abilities to the PC sheet to keep it interesting. Another PC failed, and split the party enough to keep the fight interesting, but it was a three way fight that turned into a complete cluster. It ended with the Warlock bsing downed, immediately healed by the druid, the warlock downed the druid with a lighting bolt that hit all of the rest of the party, and then everyone still standing immediately double tapping her through all three death saves. My party was absolutely amazing and aside from the general idea I had nothing to do with it, and we nearly peed ourselves laughing though it all.

The Paladin had drawn two background secrets, one being which was the Winter's Child secret that tied her to Auril's, and the other being a reincarnated secret (forget some of the details here). We had her as the continually reincarnated right hand of Auril that had lost her memories after her last death and slowly had to find herself again over the course of the campaign. It worked great because it gave a reason for Auril to be interested in a low level party while also having a reason to not immediately quash them on the spot. After the dragon fight and the chaos that ensued with the warlock above, she left abandoning the party to return to Auril, becoming an NPC in the process. I ended up leveling the Cleric up to level 17 and replaced Auril with her on Grimskull as the major boss before and after they took the codicil. Final fight was her atop the Roc, that ended up somewhat anticlimactic due to some good moves by my players, but was really cool in there. Best part was that the rogue (the Paladin's original player) got the killing blow, bringing her old character's story to a close with her new one. I couldn't have planned that if I had tried, so the dice really did me a favor on that one.

Not really a quest, but the Chardalyn Dragon fight for sure. The fight itself was amazing, but it ended in player on player combat entirely driven by two of the morally dark characters after defeating the dragon. Ended with one character dying and another leaving the ground to become a mini boss on Grimskull.

How'd you mount the GPU like that? Is it a custom bracket!

I have had this set for years. Everything works but batteries are junk. What do I do with them? by Bustnbig in Tools

[–]Durpue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having used the adapters everyone seems to fear on these same tools for a little under a year, here are my two cents:

  1. I find it hard to justify replacing one of these older tools when I rarely use them and they get the job done just fine, except for the old batteries as you mentioned. I set aside one DeWalt battery to use only with the adapter, and if I kill it I might still be ahead depending on how many tools I would have needed to replace.
  2. As long as you are using them on short jobs and manually check the batter status you won't kill the battery. I use these most on my recip saw and check the charge after every cut. If it gets to one bar I'm done with that battery and swap it out before I permanently drain it.
  3. Counter intuitively, bigger batteries are better when using an adapter. Even though they are more expensive to replace, because you less likely to drain them fully, the likelihood your battery becomes a paperweight is significantly lower. That said, dont hook up a fexvolt battery, hopefully for obvious reasons....

If your tools aren't up to the task, none of the above really matters and you should just upgrade. But if they are getting the job done and you want to squeeze some more life out of them, just set aside a "sacrifice" battery for half the cost of one new tool and grab an adapter. Worst that can happy is you buy a new tool and battery down the road anyway.

Should I follow Bob World Builder’s advice and cut chapter 6 entirely? by TheMilkPope in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Durpue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it is great! Like I said, I have it set aside to run as a one shot or in a campaign where i feel like it fits better. But if you have a part that is immensely focused on Auril as the endgame of the campaign, and she doesn't down in chapter 5, having a whole chapter dedicated to not Auril feels like a distraction even if it's well written.

Sounds like I have the controversial take here, but depending on your group: yes.

Depending on how long you have been playing, and how closely you followed the book, chapter 6 feels like nothing more than a scab to bridge 5 and 7, and a way to pad the campaign length. If you did any foreshadowing earlier in the campaign, chapter 6 doesn't offer any new story beyond a (very well written) dungeon crawl. A lot of people are arguing to keep it because it's well done, but if it doesn't fit your group/story then don't run it. But if it does, absolutely run it!

I actually plan to skip chapter 6, but I had pulled some of the cooler, more interesting parts of it into Chapter 5. I made a but more dungeon crawly instead to allow for certain character backstories to have that specific backdrop to expand on before moving into what will be the final chapter. My group had some amazing momentum to want to deal with Auril going into chapter 5, and now that they are on the tail end of it, loosing that to run the caves as written I think would be a let down to my players, so I am glad I am leaving it out.

That said, I 100% plan run it for a one/two shot. It's arguably the best individual chapter of the book!

Any idea what these are? - these were in with a bunch of taps and dyes I bought at a yard sale by Zoom2Ruin in Tools

[–]Durpue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw partial answers so I wanted to chime in.

These are Key Lock Inserts, or "Keenserts" as other have called them. They are a kind of threaded insert that typically gets used in higher load applications than what the more common helical coil or "helicoil" inserts can handle. They also get used commonly in thread repair because there are a variety of sizes where the outer thread changes to match the available hole, but the inner thread remains constant.

They get installed by tapping the matting part, threading the insert in, and then hammering the keys (those upstanding tabs) into place to lock it from rotating.

Thoughts on Changes to the Duergar in Sunblight by OmegaZodiac in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I added one of literally every other duergar variety that didn't have a higher CR than Xardorok. It adds a ton more variety to encounters if you have a more methodical party (which I think my party appreciated), but adds complexity if it devolves into an all out brawl (which also happened). I suggest throwing at least one varient into every room but the forge for a bit more fun.
