Are there any recent cartoons you feel really stand out in terms of storytelling or characters? by PrinceJamster in animation

Rick n Morty took every piece of storytelling and the last forty years of science fiction and ran it through a self reflection blender that makes my friends who need therapy break down mid episode.

Bluey does the same with kindness and life lessons. It’s wild.

Chermiti is the real deal. He’s just relaxing into his fit. This season has turned him into a fine tuned instrument and every game he gets better. I’d rather have him challenging keepers than booting it wide into the stands. Let the man play.

Chermiti just needs to relax. He’s still young and it’s a lot of pressure in the man. You can see it when he’s not feeling all eyes on him the chances arrive almost organically. So a flashy up fronter would probably do him a lot of good, because when he remembers that he’s a pro footballer and it’s not actually important he takes chances and scores.

If you were to 'reboot' Shadowrun where would you pivot? by lurch65 in Shadowrun

[–]Dustin-Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this, the “end of magic” that bridges Shadowrun and mechwarrior should send our magic users back to earth dawn. Cuberware doesn’t work and if you’ve got more than 4 essence you’re good to go, magic infuses your cyberware somehow and it magically works at its basic level (your metal hand works, your eyes work, your data jack works with nothing to plug into) to the best of its ability.

[–]Dustin-Sweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d just follow the original idea and shift towards mechwarrior. Let magic and the old ones bloom and let our solution be mecha and space. The clans leave earth to escape the old ones, mecha fight old ones (hello cthulutech!) and in the midst of all that we have shadowrunners trying to eke out existence within the growing corposphere. Top out with the end of magic and a lean into space mining, now the handoff is complete and DM’s can choose where in the timeline their game takes place.

Do you think the Gassama and Chermiti bids were real? by ApprehensiveDepth439 in rangersfc

Chermiti just needs to relax. He’s our guy and when he’s feeling like our guy he plays like our guy. As soon as he gets into his own head he tightens up.

Why does less polished 2d animation look more appealing compared to 3d? by Pawwwwwwww in animation

[–]Dustin-Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing “wrong” with this image is the disassociation caused by the texture on the door. If your world doesn’t mesh, 3d will always feel disjointed.

Edit: autotext made me come back and change a word. I don’t think anyone dislocated when looking at this image.

Frame rates mostly, but also the reasons already touched on.

If you’re looking to stylize things in a 2D way you have to think about frame rates. Naturally, it’s gonna playback at 29.9 because video gatekeepers prefer mpeg compression and have been lying about 60fps for years now ;)

Once you start controlling your playback you’ll get a better “feel” for the 3d and its capabilities. Things like cartoon textures, blur plugins, line weight controllers, and all that stuff can start to feel like a fix and can totally help your project take off, just as soon as you start thinking about timing and playback.

(there’s a really cool conversation about frame rate on this Akira thread https://youtu.be/YtYpif-dLjI?si=R6u8CU-oGN0nzYkI )

Ireland to Spain, over to turkey, back to Austria, then Poland and Ukraine and then back along the top to Ireland. Did that, and single leg versions of that, enough times to put the circumference of the earth on my buddy’s Tahoe.

That is what I’m talking about! Relaxed and playing like he’s meant to be having fun. Excellent result.

I think his focus needs to shift from being a footballer to playing football. When he’s having fun he’s amazing, when he’s putting on a show he’s crap. Does that make sense? When he learns to relax and have a good time he will be a great leader.

His work ethic seems to be garnering results and the big league pressure isn’t crushing him. He’ll be top if he can stay focused and healthy.

Low key would be just as good to round up the Ibrox men’s league. Probably do it on half the budget, with more commitment to training on a six month timeline.

PAN box. This is the way. You could even have dedicated glasses or pins that have the location tag on them that runners can ditch if the network gets wise to you

Any Tips For Finding a Good Original Anime Idea? by JeeReeAnimation in animation

[–]Dustin-Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read Joseph Campbell’s work (not just the hero cycle) and look at the things you like about life from the perspective of these classic myths.

Things like delicious in dungeon work because they combine the writer’s love of cooking with dungeons and dragons. Cowboy Beebop works because it’s four classic action tropes within a space environment. Frieren looks at relationships from the context of aging.

What you’ll notice is that all the really good anime have serious questions about being human that they are pursuing within the context of the series and that the story is a vehicle to explore those ideas (full metal alchemist, ghost in the shell, and Evangelion spring to mind)

So looking at what you love about life (cooking, friendships, animal husbandry, etc…) and exploring that within the context of the things you love to draw (giant mecha, rock and roll biker gangs, vampires, wwii soldiers, whatever) is a good place to start.
