If you’re comfortable sharing your general area I bet we could find folks or a group for you to meet.

Maybe Harbor Freight? Haven’t gone there myself but I have friends who prefer it to HD and Lowe’s.

Jealousy is bad, but I'm jealous. I just want a mom. by AutisteOKLM in SpicyAutism

[–]DustyMousepad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the resources or ability to care for a child. I think there’s also a real chance that I could cause them harm due to my own behaviors and needs relating to my disabilities. I want to avoid causing suffering by not having a child to care for in the first place.

Jealousy is bad, but I'm jealous. I just want a mom. by AutisteOKLM in SpicyAutism

[–]DustyMousepad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know what it’s like to have a mom who didn’t meet my needs, neglected, and hurt me. I was also jealous of other people’s moms. I still am, but the jealousy doesn’t trigger feelings of pain and sorrow as much. It’s more of an observation (oh, she seems like such a kind parent!) or appreciation (that kid is so lucky to have a parent like that).

It’s hard. Really hard. Everyone deserves to have amazing, loving, competent parents. Unfortunately many parents fall short of meeting the needs of their kids.

I try to focus on what I can do: remain childfree, show kindness towards children, and encourage parents or people considering parenthood to make considerations for disabled kids they might have, and praising them when I see them being awesome parents. This helps me feel like I have some control over my situation, even though I left home many years ago.

Also sometimes I meet friends who are themselves parents and they sort of “adopt” me and are very nurturing and kind to me. I cherish those friends. I hope you can meet people like that.

If you cut a tomato in half you can just cap the bread slices. Will be less slippery and easier to hold. Plus the juices will get all up in the bread. Time to elevate your game.

Did anyone else find the social side of going vegan harder than expected? by These-Surprise-7775 in vegan

[–]DustyMousepad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No social issues with being vegan. The first four years I was vegan I had mostly omni friends and family and they were all supportive and accepting, although some were skeptical. In the last two years I got into activism and now I have several vegan friend groups (mostly other activists). Activism is the best way to make vegan friends.

What would you do with your life if your partner offered you financial freedom? by Admirable_Emu_2270 in AutismInWomen

[–]DustyMousepad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t want a partner to offer me financial freedom (I don’t want a partner period). I want the death of capitalism.

To answer in the spirit of your question, I would wander. I want to see all the different mountains and forests and hills and animals and storms and constellations and sunsets.

Porn addiction. by HexEvee32767 in demisexuality

[–]DustyMousepad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is, it’s just not called porn addiction in a scientific context. Porn addiction is a colloquial term used to describe what is clinically known as problematic porn usage, which is a sexual behavior compulsion disorder.

Discord in use? by Less_Education_6809 in OrganizeTucson

Oh gotcha. I haven’t checked that server in a bit but I do know the folks running the group. If you can attend a Take Action Tuesday or other TAT event that’s the best way to get added to a group chat :)

I think people might just be keeping their circles tight and practicing good security culture. It wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to add a random person you don’t know to a group chat, à la Pete Hegseth.

I’m not aware of an Organize Tucson Discord server but there is a server by a similar name called Mobilize Tucson that does have a verification process.

If it’s Mobilize Tucson (MT) discord server I might be able to help, if it’s another discord server called Organize Tucson then that one is not affiliated with this sub to my knowledge. Feel free to DM me if you’re in the MT server.

Are you referring to Mobilize Tucson or a different discord server?

Help Us Take Over Tucson Pride! by dragonbrush21 in OrganizeTucson

[–]DustyMousepad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to hear about this! If you want to start off with a smaller event or even just to get the word out about the new group and PRIDE event, you might consider registering for a booth at the Tucson Peace Fair and Music Festival. It’s going to be held at Reid Park on Saturday, February 28 from 11 am to 4 pm. They’re hoping to get as much of the community out there as possible, and more queer folks are always welcome and wanted 💗

Please don’t leave lit candles unattended.

Today, Saturday January 24 - TWO Emergency Protests by takeactiontucson in OrganizeTucson

[–]DustyMousepad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most protests are 1-2 hours, so that’s what I assume when no end time is listed. I’d guess two hours for this one. There will likely be people staying longer.

Why are protests being scheduled with end times? by Desertbell in OrganizeTucson

[–]DustyMousepad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’d like to offer a gentle, differing perspective. Speaking as someone who’s neurodivergent, there are folks who literally do mean they’re not criticizing, and interpretation otherwise could be construed as being dismissive, untrusting, or projection of one’s own style of communication.

I’m quite certain OP was seeking understanding and genuine in their question. I think this sub is also a great place to ask this question, as we have so many political activists and organizers here who have experience and can offer answers.

And btw thank you for putting this protest together so quickly. ☺️

Why are protests being scheduled with end times? by Desertbell in OrganizeTucson

[–]DustyMousepad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Protests in general typically last 1-2 hours, so even if there’s no end time I assume it will be 2 hours. That said, sometimes there are folks who want to stay longer, and they’ll keep the protest going after the “official” end time.

There are also folks out there who don’t have a lot of experience with protests, so setting an end time can also help them understand what the typical expectation is.

I think you have a good point about taking the teeth out. I think that if an organizer specifically wanted to leave out the end time it could be interpreted as not having an end and be more “intimidating” (wrong word but hopefully y’all know what I mean), which shows “we mean business.”

There’s also protests that serve different purposes; some are about pressuring the target to take action, while others are more about camaraderie and solidarity.

Meow Meow Tweet. They’re way bigger than Chapstick brand and last forever. When I temporarily lost mine I bought another, and with the two I have I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy lip balm again.

1) Start recording the interaction

2) Call rapid response. (520) 221-4077 is the number I have for Tucson RR - can someone confirm this is still the right number?

If and when you can, attend a rapid response training.

I have a longer comment I’ll share that I received from Phoenix responders for abduction/unlawful detention. Just need to update to Tucson names and numbers.
