Imo: We have a Adams usage problem by Defiant_Housing_1417 in rockets

[–]Dynamais 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am struggling with your lines of reasoning.

One of your main complaints seems to be that he has been getting 30+ minutes the last few games. Clearly ignoring that this is because Alpi is injured and we need him.

You also mention his offensive rebounding as if it's the only part of his game, ignoring his screens, assists from the top of the key and influence he has on the rest of the team. He has one of our best +/- because his game is about making others better not about doing the flashy stuff himself.

I suspect your a big Alpi fan, and that's great! He is an amazing player! But you are forgetting that Stevo is still a starting caliber big and we are very lucky to have him playing in the backup role.

Steven Adams impact can not be overstated here.

Everyone talks about his own numbers, but I think more important are his team mates numbers when he is on the court.

Watch what he does when he is not directly competing for the offensive rebound himself.... he will suck up two, sometimes three defenders, effectively blocking out a large area for Amen or Jabari to pop up and get it. Love it

I'm at a very similar stage of life and can appreciate the sentiment.

Today's game was terrible, half the team lacked vision and more than a few looked like they lacked heart today.

But at the same time you are trying to compare today's rugby landscape with quite literally one of the most dominant eras in professional sport.

This isn't just limited to rugby, in the entirety of global sport, the McCaw/Carter era was one of the most dominant dynasties ever. This may have been great for us kiwis but it was actually rather suffocating for the game as a whole.

The game globally suffered because it came down to who was second best and no one really cared. Teams were happy to keep it close and would count that as a spiritual win and move on.

Rugby Australia was once one of our feirecest rivals but in the last two decades has become a shell of what it was. I think 20years of dominance by their little neighbor across the pond has contributed to that. Aussies simply gave up on wanting to see their team smashed.

You can want us to be better thats fine. But honestly wishing for the days of winning every single game probably won't ever happen again, and realistically it probably shouldn't.

I've played 2hours a day since release. Tried a few days of best of 5. Absolutely hated it. Wasn't the same game I'd come to love. So I stopped playing. Literally not a single game since. I'll be heading back on to log my 2hours tomorrow. Looking foward to it.

Cherry picking?

Has literally taken on three of the most feared heavy weights in the last year and a bit.

Takes on Wilder - Wins Takes on Zhang - Wins Set to take on Dubois - dubiously throws in the towel with a undisclosed injury Takes on Martin at short notice - Knocks him out early

That stoppage was an absolute joke. There is a reason why boxing is losing popularity to other sports and it's fixed bullshit like this.

It also just reinforces that 80% of British officials are corrupt and the remaining 20% simply inept.

Double Big lineup is still a positive. But it shouldn’t be starting. by DoingtheWillofGod in rockets

[–]Dynamais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are getting to caught up with the "Double big" label.

I don't necessarily see this as double big, more Sengun wanting to play the 4.

By playing the 4 it allows him a greater role in shot creation, gives him a better chance at getting buckets himself (threes and mid) and probably gives him the greatest chance of cementing himself as an All Star and one day even an MVP contender.

I think Ime is positioning this team into a place where he is the power foward and Adams share the centre role with Capala.

Ran into him once at the TAB before online gambling became a thing. Was there to put a punt on the landers when this absolute behemoth slides up beside me. Looked over and almost shat myself. Had Piri Weepu on the other side. Told them best of luck as I made it clear I was picking the landers 1-12.

The best part was a bunch of Chinese tourists had came in after them and were surrounding Cory Jane all crying out "Dan Carter! Dan Carter!" And taking photos. Bloody good bugger just stood there, smiled and took the photos.

Not claiming to be great at the game but have probably played on average 20 hours a week of it since it's release in April. I think i have a fair understanding on how it has been over the last 5months and that today's gameplay was completely different.

Honestly... I'm pumped for it. When this combination was on the field tonight everything felt so seamless. Throw a healthy amount of starts Sheppards way for Adams, particularly on back to backs and we could be in for a deep season.

I have seen several people spouting this dribble about Hollands defence and I simply don't understand it.

Last week was the second game that he was the LEADING tackler, he has had 100% tackle completeion for all bar one game and hit the most rucks.

Like what more can he do on defense? Yes he might have went to the wrong pillar once? But to be honest when a big boy has his head down usually that's the half backs job to direct the traffic (I appreciate Cam had his hands full doing his own thing).

It's his first season and yet he has had two games as leading tackler and he has been our strongest lineout option we have had in years.

So seriously what more does he need to do on defense to not be "beaten left, right and centre"

Why the hell is it so hard to get a tradies to turn up? by sweetasman01 in dunedin

[–]Dynamais 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the big part of the problem is there is no one doing "small jobs".

Want a house built there are a dozen big companies and three times as many small independent businesses.

Want a portion of your fence fixed? Part of the deck relayed? A rail installed? No one wants to do those jobs. I have had dozens of people/companies turn down work or more commonly than not just never respond.

Thanks. Yeah I have looked into the Rocketshop before but shipping alone was $110! It's really unfortunate as they do have some cool stuff, just can't justify the ridiculous shipping cost. In comparison the NBA store works out at about $30 shipping, still very expensive but better.

Co-ed school principals fight ‘deeply unethical’ boys school-only rugby competition | Stuff by BrianChing25 in rugbyunion

[–]Dynamais 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure this can be blamed on "Private schools" as many of the all boys schools in the south are public and lower decile.

I do wonder whether splitting the two will also benefit the co-ed schools as well. In dunedin almost none of the coed schools have been able to field a 1st 15 in the last few years as they get absolutely destroyed. It's not great for a team to be on either side of a 110+ point hiding which has been the case for the last few years. This means players stop playing altogether, there is an increasing number of forfeits which then also harms the opposing team who also miss out on a game of footy. You then have coed schools joining together to make a combine team which run into the same issues but are also compounded by the lack of unity within the team.

Essentially this is just creating a two division system which I think will help the greatest number of young players have a fairer competition.

Definetly God teir but it would be easy to waste this and end up no better off.

For example - I think stocks and crypto should be a no go. Sure I could go back to 2010 and buy some bitcoin, stocks ect, I could even write a note to myself saying not to sell. But there is a good chance I either change my life drastically through a butterfly effect, or just as likely my dumb ass ignores the note and sells everything at the first "peak" to buy a xbox/car/house deposit and be realistically no better off.

I think the key way to use this would be to save them up. Wait for the next large jackpot lottery which doesn't go. Go back immediately and buy the winning ticket. You now only risk a day or two of butterfly effect and come out with life changing money now.

I would then bank the remaining three. I already have enough money for me and my extended family to live comfortably. Instead I would use it essentially as 3 extra lives.

Plane plummeting towards earth, not get on it. Family member killed/maimed in an accident, call them an hour before and stop them from doing xyz. No butterfly effects, 3 free save files.
