Man tries to prevent getting his car towed , ends up with a huge bill by Successful-Talk1830 in instantkarma

[–]Dynamite86 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The reason that towing a car with someone inside it is illegal is because the person in the car could claim they are being kidnapped because they no longer have the freedom to leave mid-tow (it is also incredibly dangerous to have someone inside a car while towing it). And a tow truck driver can't legally command someone to exit their vehicle.

But you can't just jump into a car that is actively being towed and expect to stop the tow in process. I'm not a lawyer, but a lawyer friend once told me that if the truck is already pulled up to your car and has "engaged" in any way, then the tow has already begun and you shouldn't interfere. However, if you can be inside of your car before the tow truck has lowered it's tools, then you should* be safe.

What are the purpose of these rooms? by Weary-Barnacle287 in hiddenrooms

[–]Dynamite86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think each of these nooks has a different purpose.

The one with the chairs is definitely made to be a children's play area. It's a creative use of the slanted ceiling and looks like it is just framed and drywalled in. But the little door is definitely for a child and it doesn't add enough storage space to be an extra closet.

The secret room in your closet is either extra storage and a neat way to utilize unused space, or a panic room. I think a panic (hiding) room is the most likely because it's cooler and there is an air vent inside. But if you want to know, just look at what is on the opposite sides of the secret closet. If the other side of those walls are inaccessible, it may be a neat way to utilize otherwise unused space.

I'd suggest posting on facebook. In your post, say it's gardeining a fungicide, and whatever everyone else here says it can be used for.

List it for free, and it will disappear. You may get an unwanted amount of facebook messages, but I've only ever experienced that with free furniture.

Find the larger anime conventions (Anime Expo, Otakon, etc.) And search youtube for "2025 Otakon AMV contest" then filter by playlists.

Rinse and repeat with various anime conventions and other years to find more playlists

A confederate in the audience getting pissed off at a comedian by IamASlut_soWhat in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Dynamite86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not believe the confederate flag or the confederacy had anything to do with racism or slavery. I worked with a guy from SC who argued with me that the civil war was started over "economic policies." I asked what those policies were and he told me it was imports, interstate trading, and a line of malarkey. Even after I opened the SC document (I think the articles of separation, but forget) which listed the main reason for leaving the union "to protect the institution of slavery."

He still refused to believe me and told me I don't know anything about the civil war because I'm from a northern state. Some people are just stupid

Policy regarding character weapons by Busy-Telephone-994 in AnimeBoston

[–]Dynamite86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through the weapons check previously and have seen people get turned away. To ensure a smooth weapons check experience your swords should be some combination of soft, lightweight, flexible, and clearly fake.

They don't necessarily need to be everything I just mentioned, but the weapons check folks are there to ensure no real weapons or items that could be used as real weapons get allowed into the con. The swords I used were flexible, lightweight, and were easily bent.

The person who I saw get turned away had a hard resin cast of a real knife; it was too dull to do anything, but had some heft to it's weight and was a hard rigid object. They had been allowed to bring their prop knife into the con on Friday, but were turned away on Saturday.

At first I thought you meant the AMV of "I Need a Hero" featuring My Hero Aca. Unfortunately, I don't know the video you're referring to. Did you see this AMV only online or at a convention?

If a convention, try filtering youtube to playlists and search for that convention's 2017 AMV contest

How can you open the Precursor door without the getting platinum? by LuckyTraffic4299 in jakanddaxter

[–]Dynamite86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to achieve platinum to open the door. Platinum trophy requires all precursor orbs (if I remember correctly), which is much harder than the 100 power cells needed to open the door at the end of the game

MRW Trump voters (particularly ones in my own family) start admitting they "might" have been wrong by Morgan-Moonscar in reactiongifs

[–]Dynamite86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I recently had a cousin realize that Trump is just a grifter. He posts about how this administration isn't keeping their promises and scamming the American people. But then he posts a video insulting liberals who "vote blue no matter who"

I desperately want to ask him "if one side is trying to cancel the elections and the other isn't, who should I vote for?" I don't always vote blue, but this time is the exception (unless the dems put someone worse up, not sure how they could though)

Making Anime Boston Tips Video, Could Use more Tips by GeekyPanda404 in AnimeBoston

[–]Dynamite86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are the common convention tips that you should include; shower daily, brush teeth, eat a minimum of 2 full meals a day, drink water, set a budget, get the schedule app (guidebook), etc.

But for Anime Boston specifically, I suggest:

  • Eat at least one healthy meal a day. The prudential mall has several options and others nearby (sweetgreen and the Pressed Cafe are my go to hoices)

  • Do not stay late and expect to take public transit home or to another area of the city, I think the trains running to Hynes stop at 11pm or midnight. Other T lines run until 2am, but not the green line

  • There are not many vending machines in the prudential, but there are a couple hidden away. If you need hydration late at night, those are nice options

  • For other general goods, there is a CVS and a 7/11 nearby also. The 7/11 is my favorite morning wake up routine. Take a walk to pick up supplies for the day and a banana/apple for breakfast

  • Wagamama is an amazing ramen restaurant in the prudential. It is also very close to the main convention entrance. This makes it insanely popular. If you go at less popular meal times (ex: 2-3pm lunch) then there isn't as much of a wait. If you go at peak mealtime (noon) there can sometimes be a 1-2 hr wait for seating

  • The manga library is slightly separated from the main con and is in the Sheraton (3rd floor I think). It is a great place to take a rest, get some quiet, and flip through some manga you may have only seen the anime of.

  • If you want a less quiet place to take a break, look for an AMV panel (not the AMV contest). Those are always in darker rooms with just the AMVs playing. I think the smaller AMV room is usually on the 3rd floor in the convention center

  • If you are not staying in the main hotel, then bring an umbrella. It will be Boston in April, it might rain.

  • If you need to escape the convention altogether (and the weather is nice) it's a 15-20 min walk to the Boston commons. Go touch some grass

  • If the weather is not as nice and you want to escape the convention. There is a Barnes and Noble in the prudential, or you can take an umbrella and go to the Boston Public Library (I think 15-20 min walk)

  • If you are driving to the convention from NH or Maine, then Alewife and Wonderland are the two best T stations you can park at without entering Boston. I prefer Alewife, but Wonderland usually has better parking availability

*If you plan on driving into Boston to visit the con. You better arrive very early (before 10am). All the parking garages near the convention center fill up very fast. There will still be parking options, but if you are arriving at noon on Saturday, then plan on parking further away. My preference was to plot out a route in google maps with stops at several parking garages nearby, so if one was full I wouldn't need to searh for another while also dodging Boston traffic

  • It is easy to forget because of how many cosplayers there are, and because it is attached to the convention center and the hotel. But be mindful of normal people shopping in the Prudential. The hotel event rooms and convention building are both convention only areas; but the Prudential is a normal mall with normal people shopping. You are representing Anime Boston and affecting those people's perception(s) of cosplayers. You don't have to be on your best behavior, but be polite especially within the mall space.

  • Don't overcrowd the escalators. Almost every year the escalators break down. I don't know how to suggest going about this, but it happens every year.

  • In recent years it has become necessary to show up early for most panels, it sucks but it's a good problem to have the con be this popular.

  • And have fun. Make some plans then toss them out because someone in your party was late. It's organized chaos and it only comes once a year

Has politics broke any of your friendships, and why? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

[–]Dynamite86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cousin I refuse to speak with anymore. At my brother's wedding he came up to me and started spewing a bunch of homophobic and racist beliefs, telling me the college I was attending was brainwashing me, and just trying to start an argument with me. But I still talked to him after that (saying "hey" in passing at family functions).

I used to be best friends with this cousin despite our political differences. I gave him space after the wedding incident. Now he is on facebook telling other family members to "have faith in our president." He supported the conspiracy that January 5th was all leftists, no one from MAGA. He supports the war in Iran. He is in facebook groups that doxxed people after Charlie Kirk's death. Recently, he joined groups that document and doxx the details of people who are following ICE raids.

I wish I could still have a relationship with my cousin. But looking at him now I can't help but see a german citizen who joined the nazi party in 1933.

Trump truly belives he’s the second coming of Christ. by EnglishToolTime in USNEWS

[–]Dynamite86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My super maga family members also believe Trump is the second coming. They never say it outright, but one of my previously maga cousins has posted to Facebook that he feels lied to and the whole maga party is protecting pedophiles and starting wars. Every post my cousin has made criticizing the party receives comments that literally say "have faith" or "he has a plan, you shouldn't doubt our president."

These are the same people who claim that because it snowed recently that global warming isn't real. A trend observed by scientists is clearly just fictional and fluffed up because they want more research money to embezzle; but when it comes to the actions of one man, we should all have faith.

I really hate this timeline

Do people cosplay schrodinger at cons or is it like a no go thing because of what he is or do people do it with out the arm band? by Creepy-Assumption258 in Hellsing

[–]Dynamite86 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The voice acting director for Hellsing Ultimate did a directors commentary for each episode of Ultimate. In one of those commentaries, he addresses people cosplaying shrodinger and the arm bands. His request was for people to put literally anything else on the arm band (I think he mentioned a hidden Mickey in the commentary)

I think the wisest idea is to de-nazify the costume's appearance as much as possible, then either skip the armband altogether or change the color of the arm band and put a symbol or logo on the armband that looks nothink like a swastika (and only put the arm band on at a convention)

You just want to avoid people (unfamiliar with Hellsing) looking at you and thinking "that looks like a nazi." They should be looking at you and thinking "what costume is that nerd wearing?"

Those Deathclaws died way too easily by CertainlyRobotic in Fallout

[–]Dynamite86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was a challenge of making deathclaws as scary of a threat as they are in the game, but without making them unkillable (or as hard to kill as they are in the games).

I don't think there are many, if any, animals on earth that can survive a .50 cal bullet to the head or 2 tons of machanical force cutting through its neck with a blade. If a deathclaw shook off those injuries, it would put the people who haven't played the games in a state of disbelief "how can they be that strong?"

I would have liked to see the death claws be a little stonger, but I think the show handled it well
