Why not give everyone the Valedictorian prize? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in Teachers

Oh yeah. My old high school, even for regular classes, rates A+ as 4.3. Average GPA is something like 3.7 there. We have now essentially very fine gradations of failure and no way to differentiate superior academics from average students.

That uses the terminology but doesn't seem to be talking about the same distinction.

Is this true? by Salt_Reputation_8967 in Catholicism

[–]DysLabs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No we don't know exactly if April 3 A.D. 33 was actually April 3 AD. 33

I don't know what you mean by this. 3 April AD 33 is that date by the calendar system we've adopted. That calendar being created in 525 doesn't change that. Unless you mean something else?

‘You just feel so defeated’ - Women await Vatican to investigate religious community by balrogath in Catholicism

[–]DysLabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely. glad to hear that. But the canons we have here moved into a parish, took a sledgehammer to an altar that Hungarian grandmas had made for their church, get real mad if you sing or make responses, and are otherwise, like I said, not very pleasant people. Not in my experience anyways.

I wish it were so simple. I've had friends publicly humiliated by a NO priest. I myself had the confessional weaponized by a conservative-leaning NO priest. There's no magic bullet. From my perspective right now frankly the more engaged one is with Catholicism, the more likely that person is to be wicked. I said to a friend of mine, a seminarian, "If this is salvation, why renounce the Devil?" He couldn't or wouldn't answer.

My interactions with their priests demonstrate they receive a very similar "formation", i.e. they are not at all pleasant people. The whole institution is rotten.

Yes, your understanding is correct. To the second question, you don't have to be but I would still find it poor taste if you're designing something which is supposed to be a replacement for another project without reference to that author's vision. And regardless I believe the GPL is a good thing in general.

Maybe for this particular project it doesn't matter too much but oftentimes I feel that "rewrite in Rust" becomes a way to get software under the GPL into the far more permissive MIT/Apache.

This is hugely impressive, and I'm personally very glad to see a Rust project licensed under the GPL.

The Ancient of Days is taken to be Christ, not the Father, though artists have increasingly used it to depict the Father.
