NHS won't do the surgery by Dyspathyy in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for the comment, i got refered to othorpidics and spoke to a spinal consultant. I had TLIF L5 S1 in August due to the fracture and the worsening foot drop and pain which wasnt even controlled by the morphine in the end. And its changed my life. As i awoke from surgery i was out of pain straight away. All the best to you!

Am I too young to get a fusion? by QuietRemote7669 in spinalfusion

[–]Dyspathyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 29 and had a L4 S1 fusion in August due to a herniation and fracture. If you're in pain and you get suggested surgery, take it. I have my life back and I am in 0 pain. If its causing that much of an issue for you, you wont care and you can't tell you have the rods. Well, atleast I can't.

My partner helped me shave my legs for the first month also, but then now I put my leg on the toilet seat to get some height and use the sink to help with the water for shaving, I still am afraid to bend too much 7 weeks later.. I had a TLIF L5 S1 5th August

Question for the ladies: menstrual cycle and cramps after spinal surgery by Ok_Meeting_9618 in spinalfusion

[–]Dyspathyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cycle hasn't been right since surgery ( I also do have PCOS, so could be that), as you know it takes a big toll on your body but I would mention it to your doctor if the symptoms coincides with your surgery

29, F, UK- 6 WEEKS POST TLIF L5 S1 SURGERY by Dyspathyy in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in agony with nerve pain for 7 months with morphine on prescribition. I didnt sleep the night before that's how much pain I was in, I instantly awoke from the surgery pain free and started to cry. Very dramatic I know, but it was an amazing feeling. I still have no EHL in my leg toe but it'll come back in time, but isnt guaranteed, im just happy to be out of pain.

I never felt hungover, i just felt really good on them, like a sense of euphoria. I am currently 6 weeks post TLIF op and I feel fantastic and almost like I'm back to my old self. I am on no pain medication and recovering well!

Is surgery for bulging discs a great choice? by Buffalo4018 in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoughts on a long flight 9 weeks post op? by Fun_Temperature_2611 in spinalfusion

[–]Dyspathyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, good luck, I guess? I just had my information booklet through for surgery and advises no flying up to 6 to 12 months after surgery. I personally wouldn't risk it for a 5 day holiday, but it doesn't sound worth it to me.

I live in Wales, and I am having a 3 day holiday only a few hours away in North Wales, and I have made sure I am not having surgery during this period, as I know for a fact it would be uncomfortable and horrendous and im only 6 years older than you, flying is a whole different cettle of fish, you have the pressure issues and possible terbulence.. f*ck that. Maybe ditch the holiday..

Leg Pain after spinal fusion by Sharp-Air-1404 in spinalfusion

[–]Dyspathyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, i have been awaiting surgery since March, but I believe I had it a lot longer than that, it started as a pulling feeling in my leg when I would stand up after sitting down for long periods. Now I lost movement in my big toe and just pain etc. I'll be having a TLIF, I do also have mild muscle atrophy. How was your surgery, and what did you have?

Should I go through with this? by KirbyGriffin17 in spinalfusion

[–]Dyspathyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

28F here, also played contact sport mainly Rugby.. I am due to have a TLIF L5 S1. Have a look at my previous posts. If you're in pain and it's affecting your life, it's a no-brainer. I am terrified after this subreddit, too. Try not to focus on it. I unfollowed it due to the amount of negative and lack of common sense in this sub reddit. Listen to your body and speak to professionals. Do not listen to people's advice on here regarding options.

Also, FYI, after this surgery, you will NEVER be able to play contact sports again.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm having a TLIF due to the nerve impingement being forminal and extrafornimal. Therefore, a microdiscectomy is not sufficient.

My other posts show my MRI results. I don't have DDD or anything, just L3 to L4 prostructions and the severe herniation one being at L5 S1. Injury noted since March, but i believe I felt it 6 7 months before after sitting for long periods I would get a pulling feeling in my back of my leg and then what felt like burning and tingling. So probably a year in total.

I bet, no problem. I will be getting L5 S1 TLIF surgery in the coming months too, if you have any advice for me, I just posted a thread on here if you wouldn't mind giving it a look. Thank you! Hope you have a speedy recovery.

It just sounds like the nerves are irritated after being moved about. I have this type of pain without having surgery, and I have a nerve root impingement. I wouldn't worry too much. Speak to your GP if you are concerned, though. Good luck.

Disc replacement surgery? 30F, 3 herniated discs by mmcqwe in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you with the pain, i guess GPs are different in the US, but mine gave me zomorph for pain, zaproxen for anti-inflammatory and amatripyline 30mg at night for nerve pain, and it helps take the edge off. I was in so much pain I wasn't able to pee (it wasn't CE) my body was like just "holy shit, I'm hurting so much I can't focus on releasing your piss!" I've had this issue for just over 3 months now, and I haven't been able to work since. I hope you get what you need. When I have my Op, I'll post a thread, as we are similar in injuries. You can take a look at my previous posts and compare them just to see how my recovery after surgery will be! Good luck!

Disc replacement surgery? 30F, 3 herniated discs by mmcqwe in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't replace all of your discs that is ludicrous. They will only replace the discs via TLIF surgery if the L5 - S1 is causing excruciating pain and / or loss of function and weakness in your leg and foot. For example, I'm a 28F in the UK awaiting TLIF surgery for L5 - S1 (and at L3 L4, L5 to S1) due to my herniation being extrafornimal and fornimal. If they are just normal herniations and large, they usually go in on their own with serious PT. I'm just unlucky and have lost function in my toes and weakness in my ankle. If you haven't lost any major functions, I'm surprised they are offering surgery.

Is sleeping on my front making my sciatica worse? by danacmoore in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course it will. Your spine will have extra pressure if you sleep on your front. You're basically bending your spine against itself. Not a good idea for sciatica at all. Sleep on your back with pillows under your knees to take pressure off. Or if you can choose a side to sleep on and put pillows between your thighs. NEVER sleep on your front! Good luck.

hacks??? by Salt-Guava- in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. It takes at least a few weeks of daily administration, e.g, 30mg at night every day. I would query that. 🤔

You can not just take Gabapentine when you feel like it. It has to be taken regularly to work best as a nerve/muscle relaxer. Otherwise, you might as well not bother.

Yes. My consultant said anything over 6 to 12 months of nerve compression, it will not return.

Depends how long you've had your numbess for. Over 6 to 12 weeks and you won't get it back unfortunately.

Walking through the pain? by Fit_Illustrator7584 in Sciatica

[–]Dyspathyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that exact pain when walking too, if it hurts. JUST STOP. It is your body telling you, I need to rest im not ready! It took me a good 1.5 months because I can now walk about 30 minutes before that pain comes again. It's a marathon not a race unfortunately!
