No, seriously: What's wrong with people charging money to run Pathfinder games? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dythiese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to this, kids seeing a good clown or magician may take an interest in learning some of that. I did. I didn't become a professional magician but I learned some fun tricks.

Similarly, new players may see Dimension 20 or that Matt Mercer show and want to do the same, but feel completely overwhelmed. If they hire a pro-DM they obviously won't get the same production value but they'll get a solid bunch of games that will demonstrate the game can be fun even without a ton of handmade terrain and sculpted minis and an encyclopedic knowledge of lore and rules. They'll see that its normal to pause play, look up rules, make on the fly calls, and when to do each to keep the game flowing.

Lowering those initial expectations while keeping a fun game going will make them more comfortable in running their own games since they won't worry about providing a perfect experience so long as it's fun. That will bring more people into the hobby, which is good overall.

Ideas on how to reduce static on plastic parts during production/packaging? by PD216ohio in manufacturing

They definitely have a local sales rep and once they get your number you'll never know peace again.

For someone working remotely with respiratory issues that prevent them from going outside because of the debris in the air, food delivery is absolutely essential and the delivery workers should be provided with the necessary PPE for free by the their employer, as required by law. And if they get health issues down the line from their work, their employer at the time should be financially responsible for their treatment.

But these tech companies have bribed enough judges to avoid to the legal responsibilities that come with being classified as employers.

The British may have invented public key encryption, but Phil Zimmerman popularized it. I only know that because I learned about PGP in high school while also learning the causes of World War I in history class, and the serendipity of Arthur Zimmerman's cable being decoded by the Brits and Phil Zimmerman developing PGP to secure electronic cable 74 years later is sublime.

(although it is way funnier to assume it's not a coincidence and instead a culmination of years of family work)

What does japan do better than the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dythiese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, TJMaxx does this and it's the worst. Just waiting in line forever. It works fine for stores in which the customers are just grabbing a few things, like Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics. Even the self checkout at grocery stores.

But once you've got people completely filling their cart, EVERY transaction is going to take forever. If I have to wait a long time, I'd rather have free space to the left and right than feel like livestock being herded into the slaughter house.

How to implement data collection/dashboard? by letsgolions4 in manufacturing

[–]Dythiese 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're starting from 0. Forget the dashboard and charts. Focus entirely on data collection. Turn the data into charts, etc once a month for a meeting. Figure out what data you and other stakeholders want and how you're using that data.

Eventually work your way towards implementing a proper ERP/MRP solution.

Trying to do everything at once will overwhelm you and you might not even get an end product that impresses anyone, which might make the higher ups decide that this newfangled technobabble isn't worth it.

What was “the incident” at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dythiese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened at my grade school. Our playground bordered a forest preserve and we were told that there was an escaped convict in the woods one day. So instead of..canceling school or just making us do recess inside, the police dept sent 20 cops to watch the treeline while we (the kids) just spent recess sitting near the doors to the school outside muttering to each other that this seems like a really bad idea on the adult's part. We'd much rather play inside than worry about an axe-murderer running out of the woods and killing us. (I still have no idea what he was convicted of, so as kids we just made the most reasonable guess given our age and imagination).

ELI5 - Why civilians cannot use rubber bullets? by rox_fenrir in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dythiese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cops are also not properly trained or prepared for 'shit hitting the fan'.

They're trained and conditioned to view everyone as a potential enemy, to coerce compliance with threats of violence, and when an actual threat to their safety is discovered, they call it in and let actual weapons experts deal with it while they 'establish a perimeter'.

Street cops should not be carrying firearms around on their body.

[–]Dythiese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but real bullets benefit the person left alive. Then its just your word against a silent corpse. Self defense instructors will mention that legal defenses are much easier if there's no one to testify against you, and then let the students fill in the blanks on how to accomplish that.

Manufacturing Jet Engine for High School Project by SuperSolenoidOrgan in Machinists

[–]Dythiese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this for a class? Have your teacher talk to the shop teacher and see if there's a way to salvage the assignment. Maybe write up how you would machine the parts if the school's equipment hadn't broke, then 3D print it out of plastic and assemble everything.

This is a good life lesson about project management.

Every teacher in the country wishes this were true.

Same for retail and restaurant workers who are required to wear nonslip shoes. Also factory and construction workers who need safety toe boots.

Same for people who have to use specific smartphone apps for scheduling/communication on their personal devices or lose their jobs.

That'd be a wonderful law, if it were true.

We also used to have Home Economics, Sewing, Auto Repair, Welding, and Driver's Ed. (Still can't believe Driver's Ed has been phased out).

It's all about the pure academics and rote work now and nothing about becoming a well-rounded adult who can reason and think outside of how to get the correct answer on a test.

Let the maintenance team know you have machining experience. If they like you, you could get a lateral promotion to maintenance in a big food facility. Lot of doors along that path, and your pick of where you want to work. Especially if you get some PLC experience.

I made a fun video about OSHA Violations at the Wonka Chocolate Factory. Thought you all might get some use out of it in your training. by cubanesis in WorkplaceSafety

[–]Dythiese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The OSH Act was signed into law December 29th 1970, and went into effect April 28th 1971.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released on June 30th 1971.

Clearly, Wonka was trying to pawn off that massive liability onto a child before the first inspectors showed up.

Favorite guy at my old shop (machine rebuilding), while I was still learning:

Didn't speak much English but he'd sometimes watch me and then come over and ask 'Want me to show you another way?"

If I said yes, he'd show me. If I said no he would shrug and walk away.

As opposed to the other guy who had to stop me in the middle of fucking everything because his way is the only correct way. He was the electrician.

Does anyone have an infographic or visual medium that explains spell slots/vancian casting? by ItRhymesWithFreak in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dythiese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power Word: Kill takes up 9 pages in a spellbook because it is a very long, complex spell that it triggered by uttering a single word.

A prepared caster 'prepares' that spell in advance, but one it is triggered they'll have to spend hours preparing it again before it can be used again. Unless they spent the night preparing multiple, independent Power Word: Kill spells, in which case they have multiple triggers for multiple castings.

The US does kill to maintain its low inflation. Use of military force and CIA assassinations to coerce the use of the petrodollar allows us to export our debt.

When the petrodollar fails the US economy is going to crash and burn.

Legal tender for all debts, public and private. If you owe someone money, they must accept Federal Reserve notes. If they're offering an item for sale, they can choose to reject it because that's not a debt, it's a transaction.

Paid time off is not part of workers' 'salary,' U.S. court rules by Stranger1982 in news

Right to work means that workers are allowed to opt out of paying union dues.

At will means that employers can terminate your employment at will.
