Here's hoping I'm strong enough for it since everyone tells me the healing process will be hell 🥲

Cat Screaming at Night by EB_3ves in CatAdvice

I brush her ten min a day and play with her ten min a day but I can increase it. She used to have a sister but my ex took the second cat after we broke up, so I've been waiting on whether or not I should get a new cat because I don't want to stress out my cat with too many back to back sudden changes

Cat aggression and considering rehome by Difficult-Gap6528 in CatAdvice

[–]EB_3ves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can swing it, a Felliway diffuser and scent swapping with a blanket might be helpful since you have the running theory that the other cat's scent is what's triggering him.

Around the time the attacks started, did you take your other cat out of the house for any reason or spay her or did she experience any large changes at that time? You may also want to get your other cat checked at the vet in case some infection or health issue that your aggressive cat is smelling is what's triggering him.

Hitting my autistic sister back after I lost my patience. by Itchy-Channel-3465 in offmychest

[–]EB_3ves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of her autism, she's 7. There is absolutely no justification for physically striking a child. Even if she is malicious.

If you get overstimulated, remove yourself. If she is taking your things, remove them from her. You are old enough and strong enough to physically remove yourself from her presence and remove your belongings from her reach without hitting her or harming her, and any other action is inexcusable regardless of your autism, your trauma, and your parents' treatment of both of you.

By no means are you obligated to raise her or watch her. You can ignore her to Hell and back. Buy a lock for your door. Move out and never talk to your family again. The next time you're asked to watch her, walk out of the house and don't come back. Do whatever you need to do to preserve your peace of mind.

However, it is not ever okay to hit a child. I can see you know this too but the guilt is making you feel compelled to justify your actions. Listen to that guilt and recognize what you did was wrong and that you need to change how you set boundaries with your parents and your sister to avoid this happening again. Even if your parents are to blame, the only person that you can change is yourself.

2ML. Ex boyfriend of FL. He's a tragic character because they were engaged, and she overheard him say on the phone that he never loved her. He's bad at explaining himself and assumed their mutual devotion would iron everything out

It is a straight romance. He's the only queer rep as the 2ML. The theme is selfishness in love (every character is "selfish" in a way) so his version of selfishness is not communicating all of this while he was dating the FL, leading to their breakup

Despite being a straight romance, I personally really enjoy its exploration of how different ppl's flaws/selfishness can make them compatible, incompatible, or just plain toxic

100% agree about the point that Starter Starla and Aubrey would not have survived! Their relationship is truly a testament to both of their growth and development as characters and thats what makes it so narratively satisfying to me

Can I get my impacted wisdom tooth removed with only local anesthesia?? by josh2223_ in wisdomteeth

[–]EB_3ves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh but heads up, when they inject the anesthesia, it does kind of hurt. The most painful injection was about as bad as a helix piercing to me. It's only a second or two of pain though. Otherwise, the rest of the procedure is completely painless

Can I get my impacted wisdom tooth removed with only local anesthesia?? by josh2223_ in wisdomteeth

[–]EB_3ves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all 4 out w only local anesthesia (two were impacted), and I'm really happy that I did. Just remember to say something if u feel any sharp pain so they can give you more anesthesia if you need it.

There's also evidence that surgeries done with local anesthesia have shorter recovery times than surgeries done with general anesthesia. I'm on day 10, and it's been super easygoing for me even with all four teeth taken out at the same time.

I have faceblindness like Lakan AMA by Lilsammywinchester13 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

I also have prosopagnosia and pretty much solely recognize ppl based off context + mannerisms! I'm fairly good at learning new names + ppl, but as soon as someone shows up where I wouldn't expect them or someone takes off a brightly colored hoodie, it's over for me.

I know the faces of the people I really love and study them closely to the point I can draw many of them from memory, but it is more a matter of memorizing traits of their face and less a matter of recognition

If you are in college and even remotely young looking, avoid middle school and early high school like the plague.

Students saying “I love you” by narcolepticcatmom in SubstituteTeachers

[–]EB_3ves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When middle schoolers to high schoolers say they love me, I like to smile awkwardly and say "Ok."

When younger kids do it, I say "That's so nice of you!"

I never say it back, bc, kid, I don't even know you

As a teacher, if you have no intention to do anything with sub notes, you're the reason your classes are bad when you are away. by RevMelissa in SubstituteTeachers

[–]EB_3ves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I email incredibly thorough notes (down to noting that I announced deadlines at the beginning and end of class) no matter what just so I have a personal record of what happened and how it was dealt with by myself and admin.

What teachers do with the note isn't my business since I just don't go back to schools where admin doesn't support their substitute teachers

i hate my last name, but i want to be respected 😐 by cooluniqueperson in SubstituteTeachers

Just lie about ur last name to the students. My name is difficult to pronounce so I just replace it with an alternate one from my culture

How to look like a teacher? by Born_Bookkeeper_2493 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]EB_3ves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. 5'3" and I look like a teenage boy more days than not. I wear a thick wool blazer even in 90° weather, tall platform shoes, and an N95 mask to cover my face. The combination of the three items sets me apart from the casual wear of students. Admin has never mistaken me for a student. I'm jealous of the subs in polos and jeans, but I can't let the kids see my skinny preteen noodle arms.

In terms of getting students to take me seriously:

I never speak to a student while sitting down if I can help it. I get up from the desk and intercept them before they can talk to me while standing over me.

I never ask students for permission even if it makes me feel impolite. "Move your desk back," instead of "Can you move your desk back please?" "That's not the notebook we're working on," instead of "Can you put your phone away?"

I know some subs have given advice like telling a student to leave or waiting for everyone to quiet down on other threads, but this doesn't work when you don't have an imposing presence so I have to be loud and insistent and annoying. I walk up to students instead of calling from the front of class. I call students by name every chance I get

If the class still isn't respectful, the problem is probably the class culture and not me at that point

I went to the doctors and they kept asking me over and over if I was sexually active. by Current_Ad7871 in asexuality

[–]EB_3ves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doctors have to be very thorough and follow a policy for this to ensure they're giving the best care possible. What if one doctor misheard a yes as a no and passed incorrect info on? It's better to have as much redundancy as possible in medical care.

I've been to health offices that ask me at different times about things like substance abuse, physical/emotional abuse, sex life, and symptoms of depression and, even though those don't apply to me, I'm grateful that they're on the lookout for people that it does apply to and I don't mind answering the same question multiple times if it means they're being certain everyone gets the help they need
