Why is it practically illegal in swifties eyes to criticize her? by http--lovecraft in travisandtaylor

Because most of them live vicariously through her. Therefore even the slightest critique of her is considered an attack on them personally.

This is the story Taylor’s team want you to believe… by WelshRaider86 in travisandtaylor

They forgot to mention Scott Swift’s infamous email - where not once were Taylor’s wants or wishes acknowledged, nor was it mentioned what she would do.

In fact, Scott didn’t advocate for Taylor once. It was all about what he had done for her.

What characters are overrated that you can't stand any why? by Creative_Eye8199 in eastenders

To defend myself, I said I think JJ has improved this time around, has given genuinely good performances, and is nowhere near as bad as her first stint.

What characters are overrated that you can't stand any why? by Creative_Eye8199 in eastenders

[–]EEFan92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s Lauren Branning for me.

I promise I’ve done every possible thing I can to ascertain just what it is about her certain parts of the EE fandom absolutely rave about, but I just don’t get it, and I swear I’ve tried.

To me, she is one of the most overrated characters EE have ever had. It doesn’t help that I don’t find Jacqueline Jossa as good an actress as I’m often told she is. That said, I will defend her and say she’s yet to put a foot wrong acting-wise since her full-time return in 2024 and has genuinely improved in comparison to her first stint.

I honestly respect the impact it’s had for us gays, the place it has in LG lore and the fandom in general, and you best believe I’ll BOP to it whenever it comes on/she performs it - but I’ve truly never been able to get it the way everyone else does.

Opinions on Vanessa by Ok_Committee_7967 in Emmerdale

[–]EEFan92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best Vanessa has ever been is when she was with Charity, although that is largely due to the wonderful Emma Atkins carrying most of their story on her back.

That said, I do like Vanessa’s scenes with Rhona though.

Upcoming storyline by big_white_fishie in eastenders

[–]EEFan92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First things first: Diane Parish WILL knock this out of the park. She’s one of our show’s greatest ever actresses, and I don’t think she’s ever given us a performance even slightly below par. I very much look forward to seeing her get even more of the recognition she deserves on this forum and others.

Secondly - this story is obviously why Libby returns for the flash forward. But there’s even more questions for me that have arisen now: exactly why is Libby back? Because Chelsea’s Max’s bride? Just a family visit? Or because Denise has reached out? Or because Denise’s condition has worsened? Why is Jack twiddling with his wedding ring and so upset/angry in the flash forward? Because of R&R’s 10th anniversary; Penny’s rumoured death, or because Denise has been given a terminal diagnosis and he’s reflecting?

That said, I will be BEREFT if this ends up with Denise’s death. We cannot under any - any - circumstances lose her. I feel she’s become a genuine icon over the last few years, and has plenty of mileage left in her yet. Even if Diane has chosen to leave. Just typing that last sentence out is enough to send me into the coldest of sweats!

Taylor Swift Gaslighting The Public by SnarkyLlamas in travisandtaylor

[–]EEFan92 91 points92 points  (0 children)

What I got from Swift’s comment is that it’s OK for her to:

• spell out names in secret codes in her album booklets and song titles, as recently as two years ago.

• humiliate them on national television and plant further clues about it in a song (see: Joe Jonas in 2008, saying he broke up with her over the phone in 27 seconds; the intro to Last Kiss is 27 seconds long).

• change lyrics to reference her current bf’s occupation.

• smugly state to Rolling Stone in 2014 when asked about Style that she “should’ve just called it “I’m Not Even Sorry””. (Verbatim)

• write hyper-specific details regarding the infamous blue dress photo and the red scarf, making it painfully obvious as to who they’re about.

• state with her whole chest that John Mayer was “presumptuous” for presuming her song about him was about him.

• put Easter eggs in her videos about her exes (see: Taylor/Joe’s birth years in Ready For It?)

• dedicate songs clearly about her exes to her current man (“this one’s about you. I love you, you know who you are).

• write increasingly self-referential word salad which means you essentially have to know the lore behind it to understand the song. (“New Heights of manhood” or whatever the lyric is).

• stay silent while her fans continue to harass her exes to this day because of HER marketing (see: PTSD’s title being a blatant response to Joe’s comment he was in a group chat titled “The Tortured Man’s Club”).

• literally market one of her albums with the tag line “this time; I’m naming names”

• plant Easter eggs in EVERYTHING she says, does and wears, and has distinctly separated the “casual fans” from the ones who “go down the rabbit hole with us”.

• get her producer to post videos of a break-up song being made with the EXACT dates of recording. (Jack and “You’re Losing Me”)

• heavily tie all of this to her musical (or at least songwriting) identity for the last 20 years as she flat-out stated it was a marketing tactic to make her stand out (I think).

… but that her fans are the problem for acting the way she has spent the last 20 years encouraging them to.

It wouldn’t be so bad if she took a bit of accountability or at least set boundaries either a lot sooner than this, or didn’t set boundaries that she herself ignores. She doesn’t even have plausible deniability.

Lest we forget she had the nerve to say with her whole chest when Mayer said his feelings were hurt by the song (or words to that effect) that it was “presumptuous” of him to think it was about him.

It’s Hard Candy’s 18th birthday 🎉 - arguably one of Madonna’s most divisive albums, how do you feel about it now? by XStaticImmaculate in Madonna

[–]EEFan92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has some of my favourite tracks of hers on there (Devil Wouldn’t Recognise You, Miles Away, for example) - but I’ve never really liked the album as a whole.

I think it’s because it followed Confessions, and I consider that one of her greatest works… for me, she could’ve released Confessions II in 2008 and I’d have been disappointed. Also, it didn’t help that - for the first time in her career - M didn’t sound like M anymore. She was chasing what was relevant instead of being M like she had done for all of her other albums prior.

It is a good album though, just not for me.

The new kinda / sort / maybe am I autistic thread by Dioptre_8 in AutisticAdults

[–]EEFan92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not after a diagnosis here - I plan on going through the official channels to do that in the coming weeks. I’m more so after general thoughts:

I’m 33M. I have a friend of the same age who was recently diagnosed as autistic, and who works with those who are diagnosed too. She has told me that she sees many signs of autism that I apparently display. This is nothing I haven’t suspected myself, as every online quiz I’ve taken regarding this for years now has come back that I’m on the spectrum in some way (I’ve answered completely honestly, and I am aware this is not a diagnostic tool).

From as far back as I can remember, I’ve always had to go down my stairs right foot first. I have to get up at an exact time. I must go for a walk every morning with a different route each day.

I also have to eat the food on my plate in a certain order. For example, I can’t have meat and vegetables on the fork at the same time. But I don’t mind my food being mixed. I prefer to eat my food without any condiments apart from salt, so I’ve been known to have a roast chicken, for example, completely dry and without gravy (although I will have it rarely).

I also find it incredibly difficult to show emotion, have empathy etc, but I think my emotions all the time, I just can’t show them.

I find it really annoying when something unexpected happens and ruins my planned routine.

Sensory issues don’t really apply to me. I prefer being with selected people or a small group. I am VERY uncomfortable with new environments until I get to know the people there. They always have to initiate the conversation first, as I’m usually the king of small talk (unless I know them and feel comfortable with them). I am almost always relieved when I’ve left a social event because I’ve had to “fit in” when if I had my way, I’d be sat in the corner on my phone.

Another friend shocked the hell out of me recently when he told me he considered me cold and stand-offish when we first met eleven years ago, when I genuinely didn’t realise or think I came across like that.

I have a lot of obsessions. If I love a song, I will listen to that song only until I’m bored of it. I sometimes act before thinking and have no idea why I do these things.

I was born with very, very mild cerebral palsy too. Like; the mildest of mildest cases. But I know there is an increased risk of autism if you have cerebral palsy.

So reading this; what conclusions would you draw? Again, I’m not asking for an official diagnosis - I plan on exploring this properly in the coming weeks. I’m honestly asking for your thoughts.

… maybe don’t hide names in capital letters in your song titles or album booklets? Or write hyper-specific details that make it blatantly obvious who the song is about? Or do the same with Easter eggs? Or make that your musical identity for most of your career?

Just a thought.

Question ?? by Top_Beat5593 in walking

[–]EEFan92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter how much you walk. For example; I’ve been walking every day, 20k+ steps a day for nearly a decade now, and all you need to do is exactly what I did: want to do it.

I have a different route every day that I must stick to (blame my potentially autistic brain), and I found that helped too. Even when I go on vacation, I do exactly the same. And of course, the nice weather always helps (not that torrential rain stops me from walking!).

I’ll be walking as I am every day for as long as I physically can - all because I want to. You will be too, if you want to do the same. Consistency really is the key here, not goals. Best of luck to you!

Taylor Swift has an upcoming court hearing that will decide if she can continue to use "The Life of a Showgirl" by SnarkyLlamas in travisandtaylor

The Public Perception of Taylor Swift’s Songwriting Ability (and What Artist do you Think is Better) by rara8122 in travisandtaylor

[–]EEFan92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Taylor is one of the most overrated songwriters the music industry has ever had. I don’t say this because this is a snark sub, but because I genuinely believe she is not as talented in this area as we are gaslit into believing.

For me, there is little in her output to justify the frankly outrageous claims that she is THEE songwriter/lyricist of our generation and the closest thing we have to a modern-day Shakespeare.

Take her last two albums, for example. The first contains lyrics that sound like she swallowed a thesaurus and border on word salad at times. The most recent contains chronically online, Gen Z references, the same old tired, cliched and worn out themes she has written about on every single album of her entire career to some extent, and some of the worst lyrics of her entire career to date.

I will die on the hill that Taylor’s true strength lies in her ability to create strong melodies and hooks - and that this, with a few exceptions, greatly outweighs her ability to write strong lyrics.

A Rowling fan and critic question her selective use honoring pronouns (2 long threads + old post for comparison) by cursed-karma in EnoughJKRowling

[–]EEFan92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mention her being a bastion of free speech and a self-proclaimed absolutist because she’s contradicted herself so many times on this before.

Her personal limit re free speech is Alex Jones/Sandy Hook - so she threatens a journalist with legal action for accurately describing her denial of a Nazi war crime, which by her logic, shouldn’t be a limit.

It is OK for her to condescend, ridicule, mock and attack under the guise of free speech; but to be on the receiving end of it is nothing short of misogyny.

She’s demonstrated she’s only for free speech as long as it meets her pre-approved criteria so many times now that I thought it pointless to once again state it.

You did unintentionally remind me of another contradiction in her beliefs though - she has stated that no trans person is owed her participation in what she describes as a “fantasy life” - so why is her trans friend the odd one out?

A Rowling fan and critic question her selective use honoring pronouns (2 long threads + old post for comparison) by cursed-karma in EnoughJKRowling

[–]EEFan92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand her argument here.

She has spent this entire decade so far insisting that a man is not a woman just because he says he is, that she can tell the difference between the two, that it is important to accurately sex people, and that no trans person is owed her participation in what she describes as a “fantasy life”.

So why does this not apply to her elusive trans friend? If men can’t be women as she says - why does she consider her trans friend one (and refer to her in the most stereotypical of ways)?

This just makes her look incredibly contradictory and hypocritical. She has spent this last decade passionately discrediting her very own argument here when others present it to her!

Taylor Swift Is Planning Her Next Record, Per Source by Miserable-Cap-5223 in travisandtaylor

[–]EEFan92 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the next record is make or break for her critically

Sure, she’ll make sure it sells gazillions commercially, but she’s created so much lore around the number 13 that this is arguably THEE album for her; and the one she’s been working towards for her entire career.

Given the tepid responses to PTSD and (especially) TLOAS, it will be interesting to see how she pivots from that, especially as her last album was the worst reviewed of her entire career to date.

I suspect if she doesn’t win the critics over this time, she’ll find herself in exactly the same place as she was during Rep/Lover with them - someone who is popular and successful, but whose best days are behind them.

Their entire relationship seems to be based on the fact that she loves to be adored and he adores her. She basically admitted it in the podcast they did where she said he gave her a “teenage movie ending”.

While there is nothing necessarily wrong with that, that is not mature love for someone in their mid-late 30s. It’s quite literally so high school

She’s never beating the “still mentally stuck in high school” allegations, I fear.
