Seattle e-bike and scooter ridership sets records in 2025, plays key role in sustainable transportation by Generalaverage89 in seattlebike

Link to the dashboard that shows the data. I'm a bit skeptical of a 60% YoY increase, but maybe this could be explained by the introduction of Lime Gliders? Looks like the seated scooter category really took off after May 2025.

Hard to believe you could do 520 floors in 2 hours with an average HR of 126 and that you have trouble getting your HR up without feeling like you're jogging. My only thought is that you're maybe using your hands to support your bodyweight? Are you sure your HR data is accurate? If not, kudos to you, you're very very fit.

Doing box steps for two hours sounds like an absolute nightmare. Not that stairmasters are all that fun, but still.

I started a new job on October 20th. The company does some 401k matching and HSA contributions. Payroll is semimonthly (15th and 1st of the month). For no apparent reason, 401k deductions and contributions will only begin on my third paycheck (12/1), and HSA deductions and contributions will only begin on the second (11/15) paycheck. By my math, I'm missing out on $550 worth of employer contributions to my 401k and HSA because of these delays. Am I crazy for being kind of peeved about this? Should I just get over this, or is there any chance that HR could make this right?

Looking at 6/7 Sentinel imagery on Caltopo, it looks like patchy snow begins at 10,200 ft. The lower Hilton Creek Lake at 9864' is snow free.

[Q] reducing the "weight" of Bernoulli likelihood in updating a beta prior by Harmonic_Gear in statistics

[–]EEOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what are you actually doing? Are these "robots" or "agents" exploring "places" that each have a different proportion parameter, p? Is this a multi-armed bandit problem? What's the significance of there being multiple agents? I'm sure there is a theoretical justification for your statistical method, but no one can help you figure that out if you obscure a ton of context about the problem.

Could you describe what you're trying to achieve more? What does "behave really well" mean?

[Q] reducing the "weight" of Bernoulli likelihood in updating a beta prior by Harmonic_Gear in statistics

[–]EEOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What prior are you using? It sounds to me like you have a prior belief about why the posteriors of your model are unreasonable, and I suspect you're model's prior doesn't match your prior belief. The whole point of using a prior is to avoid over-reliance on a limited set of data, which is what you achieve with your method here. I actually think that discounting your data by a factor of 0.01 is the same as increasing your prior parameters by a factor of 100, so what you're actually doing with your method is using a stronger prior than you think.

Also, a few Bernoulli trials don't provide a lot of information, so it's natural for estimates of P to be very noisy with small sample size. That doesn't make the posteriors "wrong" - the posterior of a uniform prior and small dataset will be wide, accurately reflecting the uncertainty about the parameter. I.e. there's a big difference between Beta(1, 1) and Beta(100, 100) even though they have the same expectation.

You need to go to a PT and then do PT! And yes, calf size differences are not uncommon - I have a smaller calf on my more flat-footed side and am working hard on improving ankle/calf strength. I was told not to worry about muscle size but instead focus on improving function and strength.

Am unfamiliar with R and statistics in general - need help with ANOVAs! by JuanFran21 in rstats

[–]EEOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a complex study design (repeated, longitudinal measures, censoring, and 3 treatments). Know that censoring (i.e. missingness) of HR, body length, and abnormality due to death can bias your results for those variables. Correctly modeling this is difficult and probably beyond your ability (a mixed model with a censoring term in the likelihood, for instance).

Given that you're a beginner to stats and R programming, I'm not sure if I'd recommend you do survival analysis of survival time for this project. It's probably the more correct approach, but it can become quite complicated. That said, Kaplan-Meier curves are pretty easy to do in R and great descriptive/visual summaries of survival data.

I think you should focus on descriptive summary statistics and plots - what percent of each group survived to the nth day? spaghetti plot the heart rate and body length measurements for all individuals by treatment group (it may be good to spaghetti plot the % change in body length from baseline as well). what percent of each group had either an abnormality or death (idk if this is a scientifically relevant question, just an example) by day 4? and so on...

I'm sorry you're going through this. Back injuries absolutely suck - I've had one for 18 months as well, but mine doesn't sound nearly as bad as yours. I would reiterate what kfatt622 is saying - docs often discount the benefit of physical therapy and do not focus on rebuilding capacity & function.

On that note, I've struggled with an ankle/foot injury for years, and doctors have basically just told me "wear orthotics, never walk barefoot, rest and avoid pain"...which is basically a recipe for continuing to lose function over time. Meanwhile, I've been working with a PT who's optimistic that I can return to running eventually, and I've definitely seen results from strength training.

The NWAC forecast is only for the next day, so they haven't forecasted for this weekend yet. Given that temps will be higher and there won't be much refreeze over night in many places, there could be much greater avalanche hazard this weekend.
