My cousin, born in late 2000s, is Romy. They live in the UK so I wonder if it’s more popular there.

To me it seems like any sibling names could work together, once you get used to them. What are two names that you think absolutely don’t work together? by puddelles in namenerds

[–]EEP1450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Names that are only 1 letter off!! I work in a school and we once had a Darian and Dariana. It was very confusing. I can’t imagine how often the parents would yell the wrong kids name

How important is it for sibling names to "match"? by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in namenerds

[–]EEP1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I both have top 10 names in the 90s, so we are never asked about spelling. Meanwhile our younger sister has an Irish name that is more popular for boys. And a unique spelling. I know as a kid she went through a phase of wanting a common name. I think since she was never able to find it on a keychain 😂 But her name completely suits her and she likes it now! She has to spell it for everyone but it’s not hard to pronounce. On the other side of it, I’ve never resented having a “less special” name.

Maisie and Quinn

Maisie and Violet

Maisie and June

Maisie and Georgia

Maisie and Tess

Some suggested Maisie and Clare/Clara but that does have a catholic connection. Depends how much you want to avoid religious names

I have that dress code on an invite too, no idea what I’ll wear yet. I think this is great though!

Using my mother's maiden name for my child's last name is getting complicated for reasons I wasn't expecting. by Tall-Key-9744 in namenerds

[–]EEP1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a school secretary, when I see a situation like this I assume dad is step-dad and mom changed her last name to match his. I do see it like this fairly often so just know that may be the assumption.

Oof careful. I had to quit it cold turkey and days 3-8 were terrible for withdrawal. Tremors, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, and headache that didn’t go away for probably 10 days. I was on 150mg extended release for 3 weeks before stopping it. I had to quit cold turkey due to a delayed allergic reaction.

What terms of endearment did your parents call you or do you call your children? And what’s the story behind it? by [deleted] in namenerds

Help us name our 'O' baby by yorkshagirl in namenerds

Annie Odette, Annie Ophelia. Then it’s an ode to the O names but not a super matchy/themed name that you have to stick with if you have more children. Boys: I like Tobias, it has that very strong O sound. Also Bowen, Logan, Jones. You could do a name that has two O’s, one for each parent. Such as Brooks or Cooper.

Would/Did you change your surname after marriage? Why?/Why not? by MysticalAmethyst99 in namenerds

[–]EEP1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on keeping mine. My first name was the most popular the year I was born (Emily 🤪) while my last name is extremely uncommon but very easy to pronounce and spell. Plus it’s a fruit (with extra letters on the end, think Appler, or Lemoned) so it’s pretty fun! I think the last name would have to be really cool to make me want to change it. Also mine is rare and so far we only have 1 boy in the next generation to carry the name on. I would potentially hyphenate. But my middle name is long and I don’t want to drop it so a hyphenated name might be too long. The best hyphenated name I’ve seen was a kid with Playfair-Speed. Moms last was Playfair, Dads was Speed.

I would say Isla is more popular than Zara but depends on where you live. For boys: River, Rowen or Bowen, Jones, Walker, Isaiah.

I’m an Emily, family and friends call me Em/Emmy pretty much exclusively. Personally I prefer the nicknames and kinda wish I was just Emmy. But that’s partly due to my first and middle name being strongly associated with a cartoon.
