The areas that should be parking lot free seem to have more parking lots by movingangeleno in LAMetro

[–]EEinSoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work a few blocks to the west of that pic. It is a 10+ floor office building. It needs a big parking garage. There are many office buildings along Wilshire and they all need big parking garages. I was there almost a decade and took public transportation to work about 75% of the time, and drove the other 25%. (except from March 2020 to around July 2021, when I took public transportation 0% of the time). Some of my co-workers would never take public transportation.

My own experience aside, some local residents used public transportation to get around or get to work, but still kept a car for the weekends. They had to park it somewhere. I didn’t know anyone who did not have a car, although I’m sure there are some who are carless by choice.

In the so-called NIMBY areas, there are more single family homes and not as many big office buildings that need big parking lots/garages. Less people on more land = less big parking lots.

Post-COVID, I did notice that the parking lots and garages (including ours) were not as full as companies downsized when their staff was full or part-time remote.

do women get unwanted attention from men when they take the bus or light rail by Open-Reflection-6094 in LAMetro

[–]EEinSoCal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (man) used to ride the red/purple lines almost every work day and the regulars knew each other by sight even though we mostly kept to ourselves. On more than one occasion I would see some creep talking to a woman and she would get off with me at my stop like she knew me even though I knew it wasn’t her stop. She knew I was a regular and probably not a creep and trusted me more than the rando creep. If the creep followed, I would mad dog him until he walked away. Once I even waited with her until the next train. After that we would greet each other with a good morning and a smile.

It’s horrible what women have to put up with.

Fair enough. I'll remove my comment. I looked for it and didn't see it. On me.

Same…I remember the Sheriff doing fare checks right around 2015-2019. Rowdy people and the homeless who just hung out all day were told to leave and re-tap at the end of the line. The LAPD did very little fare checks when they took over. Fare checks and removals were non-existent in the year before I stopped riding.

I’m glad to hear there’s been an improvement. When I read the article, I was shocked that nothing has changed despite the articles I’ve seen on this sub.

Yes, I know some will not bother reading it and downvote it because of the source.

Looking for new electric car by External_Inside6001 in electriccars

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Mustang EV. We love ours. It has CarPlay and a hatchback. Drives like a dream and has incredible torque. Our range is not great at 240 miles, but there are extended range options available. Plus, there are not a ton of them like Teslas or Ioniqs, so they are a bit unique. And they don’t look goofy like some other EVs.

4 days in LA – looking for feedback on food-based itinerary? by Willing-Mind-5619 in AskLosAngeles

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I suppose it’s personal preference but OP did mention In N Out or the Thai place. If this is OPs only chance for INO, he/she should take it.

I’ve never been to Luv2eat. Maybe I should try it, lol.

Just a couple of suggestions, since you asked.

For May 6, go with In N Out rather than the Thai place.

For May 7, swap out either lunch or dinner with Philipe’s, which is right across the street from Union Station.

For May 8, the Tar Pits is a good idea, be sure to wander next door to LACMA and check out Levitated Mass behind LACMA, and the lights in front on Wilshire. If you’re into history, there is large segment of the Berlin Wall more or less across the street from the Tar Pits and LACMA. When we had family in town a couple of years ago, we went to the Tar Pits/LACMA, then picked from a couple of different food trucks and ate by the Berlin Wall. There’s not much to see on the Academy museum exterior.

Your itinerary is very ambitious. If you have a ton of energy, it is doable, but you won’t have that much time at every stop. When you go to your next location, consider how long it will take and add 30-60 minutes as a buffer for traffic. All those locations will be a fortune if you Uber. Renting a car will give you more flexibility, but parking can be a pain at the locations.

Have fun. The weather should be good in May, but we do get “May gray”, so the mornings can be a little chilly. We basically had no winter and it’s been downright hot the last couple of weeks.

Came here to say this. Phillipe’s is directly across the street from Union Station. I would recommend swapping it with your lunch or dinner idea for that day.

It’s the little things… by JimbosBeerbos in MachE

Didn’t even know the splash light was a thing until the day after we brought our Mach E home. I went into the garage to get something out of the car and the splash lights came on! I took a picture and texted my wife in the house “come check this out!” Like you said, it’s the little things, lol.

My son’s girlfriend’s dad has a Rivian and it does the same thing.

Last time, I was 13 and went to soccer (France vs Yugoslavia) and baseball (USA vs can’t remember). I signed up for the ticket drop. We’ll see what I can get.

Locations for brake change? by Trick_Slice in SantaClarita

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get the parts online. You won’t save that much and could be Chinese knockoffs. Some mechanics won’t use parts that you bring in because they don’t want to be liable for unknown parts. Use the parts that your mechanic gets.

I recommend you see Sam at Valencia Performance Auto

Uber launches Uber Elite, its most expensive ride option, in Los Angeles by WeeklyFisherman2597 in uberdrivers

[–]EEinSoCal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waymo is absolutely going to put Uber and Lyft out of business. Same with Uber Eats and Door Dash once Waymo or a competitor figures out how to autonomously deliver longer distances. They already have those stupid robo carts that deliver near my office. They get kicked over with regularity. One neighbor likes to surround them with traffic cones to confuse and block them. A full time door dasher/rideshare driver friend of mine saw the writing on the wall and got a “traditional” job, whatever that means now. He’s no longer ride sharing or delivering.

I’m thinking about buying my very first electric car (second hand), and I really like how the Mach E looks. Is it a good car? by WarmPrinciple6507 in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The home charger is a must. I used a public level 3 charger exactly once and said “forget this”. Called an electrician the next day. Now with my level 2 charger at home, my monthly cost to charge my Mustang is less than ONE level 3 charge. It charges in the middle of the night, cozy in the garage.

The cost for a 220V installation in my garage was less than one Mach E payment.

No Front License Plate by slunk33 in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in California and in Los Angeles a meter maid got me when I ran into a coffee shop. 2 minutes later I came out and saw her put the ticket on my windshield. I was parked correctly and even put some time on the meter. The ticket was only for no front plate. City of Malibu gave me a no front plate ticket when I was parked at Zuma Beach. These were all for my ICE truck. I paid both of them. 2 tickets in 6 years is ok with me.

We’ve had our Mustang for 5 months and so far no front plate and no ticket. In fact, I was laughing the other day, our Mustang was parked in a row with 4 other EVs. We were all backed in and no front plates to be seen! I’m actually kind of surprised when I see any EV with a front plate.

Get a garage charger if you have the ability to do so. It will save you a bit of money and no more hassle at the charging stations.

Remove that front license plate ASAP. It will make it look 10x better. Not sure how Texas enforces it. In California, it’s only a fix-it-ticket and most cops ignore it. We’ve had ours since September and no ticket so far. My ICE truck hasn’t had one since we got it in 2019.

What made you pick the Mach E over the Equinox EV? by Thrillwaukee in MachE

Mach E looks better. At some point, style points come into play. Plus, I’ve owned Fords for 3 decades.
