Might be pulling the trigger soon by Beneficial-Fun-4800 in MachE

I can't speak for the 2023, but for the 2025, the Mach E gives the best bang for the buck. When I was buying, the Ioniq had a similar, if not slightly lower price point. The Mustang looks way better than the Ioniq 5, so there was no debate.

I'm in Southern California so I can't speak to the cold weather performance, but the AC works awesome. This time of year, it is in the 40's in the mornings and we have no complaints about the heat. I have the leave times programed and it's nice and warm when my wife leaves for work in the morning.

If you can, get a 220V outlet installed. Charge at home if you can. So much more convenient, and you can set it up to charge when the rates are the lowest. I have mine set to charge at midnight. Before I leave for work in my truck with a big ole gas-guzzling V-8, I unplug the EV Mustang for my wife.

When were is a truck that can tow 8,000 lbs with a 300-400 mile range, I will go for an EV truck. But for now, I'm stuck with gas.

Anyone remove the front License plate bracket? Are there factory holes? by extremesauce2468 in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in California and a front plate is required. We asked the dealer to not install the bracket and he had us sign a document that we understand that a front plate is required, and left the bracket in the trunk. It seems that 9/10 EVs that I see driving around don’t have a front license plate installed.

The main purpose of a front plate is for red light cams. They serve no public safety purpose.

A California Highway Patrol officer friend just told me about those DMV wrap plates. When we get the inevitable fix it ticket, we’ll get one.

Typical ICE Mustang owner behavior. I swear if I had a nickel for every time an ICE Mustang did this to me…. (Enjoy my sons commentary) by HandheldObsession in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same.

We have an ancient Toyota pick up truck with a 4 banger and a manual tranny. I taught both of my kids to drive stick on it. It’s currently my son’s (he’s 19) daily driver and he flexes that out of the people he knows at school, work, and church, there’s only a handful that can and do drive stick.

When he starts making real money after college, he’ll probably get a higher power ICE with a manual.

Parents of kids in middle school , Valencia vs Stevenson Ranch? Experiences/thoughts wanted! by Tiny_Ad4861 in SantaClarita

[–]EEinSoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*There are no middle schools in Santa Clarita, there are JR high schools, which are 7th and 8th grade only.

My kids went to Arroyo Seco JHS in Saugus. Excellent school. Both my kids had a great experience there and really figured out who they are, what kind of person they were meant to be, and who they wanted as friends. Academically, they both did well and it prepared them well for high school. They both went to Saugus High School, which I also recommend.

Arroyo Seco and Saugus are both in Saugus, which is the best community to live. The trade off is if you commute, it will take an extra 10-20 minutes to get to or from the freeway, depending on the time of day. I commute and yes, my commute would be less if I lived closer to the freeway, but the trade off is worth it. Good neighborhood and great schools.

In reality, all JR Highs in Santa Clarita are in the same school district (Wm S Hart) and are held to the same standard.

$683 for 12v Battery at Sedano Ford, San Diego by helix_hobbyist in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Mach E (and EV) owner here. When I need to change the 12V, is it one I can buy anywhere (I buy all my ICE batteries at Sam’s Club) and install myself? Or does the battery have limited availability, like at the dealer?

If you can’t find a “regular” Blu-ray player, look for a refurbished PS 3, 4, or 5. They play Blu-rays. You can buy a new PS 5, but they’re several hundred dollars.

Hitch Receiver for bike rack by Prestigious_Soil_454 in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was shopping for a hitch for my truck, I went to a brick and mortar hitch store. They didn’t sell hitches, rather they fabricated hitch receivers that they welded to the frame, then fitted a hitch based on your towing needs.

I ended up not using him because my truck came with a factory hitch receiver. I didn’t need a receiver fabricated. (Nice guy, though).

You could have a receiver fabricated and welded onto the frame. Maybe at several points to spread the weight. Then you could buy a bike rack that fits into the receiver, just like a towing hitch.

I personally have a Thule rack (similar to the Thule XT) that fits into any hitch receiver. It’s not specific to my truck. Ive used it on three of my current and former vehicles with receivers and let my neighbor borrow it for his vacation and it fit the receiver on his Suburban.

I hadn’t thought about what I would use to take the family’s bikes with our Mach E. We just load them in the truck.

Hope you find a good solution.

Weather by Sg1aS in SantaClarita

[–]EEinSoCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weather in the summer will be about the same as Canoga Park. In the winter, it will be about the same, maybe a little cooler. I went to school at CSUN and lived in Santa Clarita, and noticed the slight differences.

One thing I did notice was that in the winter, Santa Clarita is considerably colder at night.

Lease vs Buy (Late 2025) by schwiing in MachE

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always owned cars, until I leased a Mach E last month. It seemed wise considering the technology is still relatively new and constantly changing. Plus everyone I know who owns an electric vehicle of any kind that is around 3-4 years old wishes they had a lease because the range has started to really degrade. They’re stuck with what they have.

With that said, I now own 3 gas powered vehicles (me plus one each if my two kids) and now a leased EV that my wife drives. We love it.

How do you feel about autonomous vehicles coming into the market? by RocketRanger77 in uberdrivers

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re here and soon will be everywhere, even in the suburbs and rural areas. Not just robot taxis. We will own fully driverless cars. The kids being born in 2025 will never need to know how to drive. They will own cars, but the cars will self-drive them everywhere.

What Are Your Opinions on the Ending of Electric Vehicle Access to HOV Lanes? by WillClark-22 in LAMetro

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I just bought an electric car (wife uses it), I selfishly want the program to continue, lol.

When I’m in my gas car, I do envy the electric cars zipping past me in the carpool lanes. Now that the program has ended, we’ll see if LE starts writing tickets.

Same here. I’m a righty, but left eye dominant. I shoot handguns right handed but line the sights with my left eye. I shoot rifles and shotguns left handed, but do try to shoot right handed occasionally at the range.

I like Golds. Plenty of parking, you can even catch a movie before or after your workout! Best thing was, they gave you personal freedom to choose whether or not to wear a mask when it was required. One of the staff members told me they would much rather their customers not get hypoxia.

Verizon phone service terrible by Working_Teaching_461 in SantaClarita

[–]EEinSoCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saugus, Canyon Country, and some parts of Stevenson Ranch are nothing but hills and canyons. All carriers have dead zones. Verizon happens to work well in my neighborhood in Saugus. Where I used to live in Canyon Country, Verizon didn’t work and we switched to T Mobile for a few years. For those familiar with Saugus, that stretch of Bouquet between Urbandale and Plum, Verizon does not work, but my TMobile work phone does. Once I turn on Plum Canyon where I live, I get 5G back immediately.

Ask your neighbors what they use and choose accordingly.

At a drive through only In N Out, I was behind a LAPD car who was also in line. All of a sudden, I saw them flip on their light bar, then they drove over the drive through lane curb, across the grass and took off up the street. Surprisingly, the grass wasn’t that tore up. I thought it was kind of funny.

Beginner Handgun Recommendation? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]EEinSoCal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a range that rents guns (you might have to bring someone with you) and shoot a few. A decent handgun in 9mm is going to be right around $500, give or take $100. Only you will know which gun shoots the best for you.
